For those who many not have noticed, there's actually a nod to the Miranda class in the Battle of the Binary Stars. The Europa's registry contains the same numbers, and it seems fitting, given the ship looks just like a reworked Miranda.
@eXcommunicate19795 жыл бұрын
You say kit bashed, I say standard operating procedure. ;) It always seemed off to me that every ship in a class would look identical. This is never the way real world navies operate, so I'd imagine you'd see a lot of variation within each class of starship in "reality." Or you'd even have "production runs" of each variant or even different configurations produced by different shipyards. The Antares Shipyard Galaxy Class ship would be its own variant from the Utopia Planitia Yards Galaxy variant. etc. That's my head canon anyway.
@Riceball015 жыл бұрын
But every major variant within a ship class is more or less the same. Using the Arleigh Burke class as an example, all Flight 1 ships are going to look pretty much the same and there won't be any major changes in appearance until you get to the Flight 2s and even then it might be more internal than external. The only class of ship, that I'm aware of, that underwent very noticeable changes between flight are the LA class subs with the 688Is moving the dive planes from the sail down where they were on the Flight 1s and 2s, down to near the bow. The ships in Trek tend to vary hugely within a class, so much so that it could be argued that they're really an entirely different class derived from an older class much like how the Ticonderoga class cruisers were based on the hull of the older Spruance class destroyer.
@henrynorcrossii33635 жыл бұрын
I imagined that Star Fleet continued to produce the Constitution Class after the initial 12, 13, or 14 that were originally produced, and only the originals were more or less identical due to being produced at the same time. That's why Kirk could truthfully say that there were only 12 like her in the fleet. All of the originals probably received identical or near identical refits to keep their technology up to date. With one of the first major refits coming after the 2nd pilot episode. I've also thought that the out of sync registry numbers were either legacy ships or refit from older ships that were badly damaged, and instead of returning them to original configuration they were upgraded to Constitution Class. If you look at the original Star Fleet Technical Manual most of the ships had used, at least outwardly, identical saucer sections. The saucer sections looked like they were mass produced for use on several different classes of starships.

I see them similar how the British used to make a battlecruiser variant of the battleship class for the design they were running through production. Miranda battlecruiser to Constitution class and Nebula battlecruiser to the Galaxy class. But being so useful and versatile the Miranda keeps getting reused in maybe a downgraded role. And similar to how jet-fighters like the A-10 or F-16 still being useful enough they are willing to keep them in service for 70+ years, upgrade new electronics and weapons, but the base form still works, even if the F-22 or F-35 are more modern.

Hull classifications are based on role, power, size, etc. among other things (as in the real world.) Therefore: corvette > frigate > destroyer > cruiser > battleship You *could* argue that if it were a light cruiser w/o the bar the addition of one would make it a heavy cruiser. I think that Star Fleet has continued production of the Miranda class well past the TNG, DS9, and VOY time. Just like it seems that they were still producing the refit Constitution class of ships. Az Mystiere 33nd century not 31st. 2258 + 950 years as stated in show is 3208 which is maybe 150-200 years after Daniels. They will still have to be careful of canon because Daniels exist in 31st century and there is time graveling ship uss relativity from 27th century so they better be careful about that part of canon and not mess up like this did with discovery in first and second season of the show the rest of trek canon.
