Lots to learn from this convo. I just gave a customer a discount but in this case I feel it’s warranted. After my ceramic coating training he was my first customer. I was nervous taking to him and afraid to even mention coatings because I was sure the price would make him run but he trusted me and brought me both of his Audis to coat. He then sent me one of his good friends and this coating job was my highest paying job to date. Two years later his daughter got her first car and I’m coating it next week and I knocked a few dollars off for being a appeeviative, repeat customer. And our daughters are now good friends. Cases like this are extremely rare with me but I do like to reward customer loyalty.

I drive semi for a living, but i also do full details on semi's on the side. Just a couple a month or when im requested. And when I explain why my prices are such, i break it down. Then he or she understands. It doesn't matter if it's a car, truck, or van. All are different, but all take time. It's either in your budget or it's not. When people try to haggle me down, i say thank you, and have a nice day. And sometimes, a week or so later, they call me back.

I started detailing my own vehicles 20+ years ago and thought about doing it as a side business. Part of the reason people think a price is to high us because they really don't know the physical part of doing the work. Your body is sore after a couple of hours of washing, then clay bar, polishing, vacuuming, digging out all the French fry crumbs, cleaning the upholstery and carpets, etc. I'm a big guy and contorting into some of the positions can be tough. The customer equates a $10 drive through car wash with what you do by hand, with high quality and care, no short cuts. They also don't realize they are paying for your skill as a professional, not the local high school kid down the street.

I had a friend of a friend want me to polish up His 1990 Jerp YJ. The paint was pretty trashed. I saw it recently he had someone do it. Probably cheaper. I told him 3-400. None of the plastics were dressed or anything. And a bunch of other stuff not done. I am glad I didn’t take him on. He called me in November of the same year after going off-roading in his other jeep. It was cold out and he wanted me to get the mud off. I told him I had shut down for the years unless he had a heated garage I couldn’t do it.

From my understanding ceramic wont hurt the paint it protects it acid will eat paint and worst cass senario you would have to buffer it😊
@MirandaDetailing
@MirandaDetailing 26 күн бұрын
Right, it won’t hurt the plant but if applied incorrectly it will leave lots of high spots and streaks that will need to be polished off. There are lots of different types of acids. Detailing acid cleaners do not hurt plant like people think. I fact they can remove water spots really well. It’s when people use them incorrectly and let them dry, that’s when it can stain the paint. But even that can be polished out.

I don't think those people looking for cheap prices are stupid or ignorant, The majority of car owners think detailing is like taking their cars to a car wash. If I wasn't a detailer myself, I would think car detailing prices are too high. Those people also don't know the hours it takes to detail a car in and out.
@MirandaDetailing
@MirandaDetailing Ай бұрын
Its not the cheap part, its after explaining they still want a deal or they complain or continue to haggle, or get upset. One should always research things before they make decisions, thats usually the problem. I learned long ago that you need to research things before calling or buying something. To say something is too expensive is irrelevant, its simply not within a persons budget.

Hey, what car shampoos do you recommend that are quality enough to be okay to dry in direct sunlight like this? As long as they’re PH neutral they should be okay, right? Also I am curious as to what exactly you did to mar the surface so bad by doing a panel wipe? What are ways to do an IPA without marring? And what method do you use now for coating prep?
@MirandaDetailing
@MirandaDetailing 8 күн бұрын
Hi. So I most professional soaps are fine to use in the sun and even dry a little. But I would recommend DIY details Incredible Suds. It’s amazing. Panel wiping on soft black paint is usually a pain. We don’t use panel wipes anymore, I find them antiquated. For about 4 years now we have been using Dr Beasley’s NSP primer polishes. I have tons of video on them on this channel. Here is just one of them. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aICUe2SjeZyAn6ssi=yID1toHicmQ-FmYD Search our channel for ceramic coatings and you find tons of videos on how we apply coatings.
