Am i crazy for always starting with the wheels first?
@MirandaDetailing4 жыл бұрын
Not at all...you do whatever works for you man! Since my wife and I work together we can speed things up by splitting up jobs, so while one is finishing up washing the paint, one of us jumps on the wheels and vice versa. But if working alone, doing the wheels first may be more advantageous. So really how ever one or two people work at it, it doesnt really matter.👍🏼
@Kynetguy4 жыл бұрын
I always start with wheels first. It always seems to me that wheel and tire products work better on dry tires. Might be just my perception.
@King_drew3 жыл бұрын
No. Starting with wheels does 1 thing and one thing only, and does it well! It prevents you from having to wipe down your car, twice. Or maybe even washing it, twice due to the dirt being washed off wheels and onto the "already washed" car, again.
@MirandaDetailing3 жыл бұрын
True but that is only relevant when you are detailing alone. With two people it does NOT matter is wheels are done first or last. Two people speeds up the process, one can focus on wheels and the other on the paint. However when detailing by yourself then wheels first is a good practice, but again a good detailer knows how to control things and keep the rest of the vehicle clean when cleaning the wheels. Plus it’s just a simple rinse of the paint if anything slings onto it from wheel cleaning. There is no reason for anyone to be dogmatic about certain processes if the end result is great.

@MirandaDetailing3 жыл бұрын
Clearcoat is very resilient to high pH and low pH chemicals, the only problem is letting them dry on the paint. When diluted super clean along with other degreaser and all purpose cleaners are perfectly clear coat safe. Even isopropyl alcohol and lacquer thinner straight on the paint is OK to use safely. Of course everything in moderation, using the least aggressive method first. When deep cleaning paint you do have to use a higher alkaline cleaner to remove traffic film oils grease and other grime that might be on the paint.

@MirandaDetailing3 ай бұрын
Hi. Cool. So just so you know the “acid” in detailing products is not what people think. It’s a blend of other ingredients. In fact acid based wheel cleaners are the best thing for chrome. It does not cause any issues. In fact it deals with water spots extremely well. What many people fail to understand is ANY chemical left to dry or not properly diluted can cause issues. That’s where much of the misinformation about detailing comes from…people not using the products correctly and blaming the products.

Hey Phil...Another great video with lots of great info and tips/tricks! Couple of questions that I’d like to get your thoughts on....When you’re doing an initial inspection of the vehicle and come across old harden (or white faded) wax either on rubber pieces or between plastic pieces what’s your thinking/planning to address? Do you suggest just using an APC on those areas and work it in with a detail brush? And if so, do you do that before, during or after the initial foaming? My thoughts are initial rinse, APC with a detail brush, rinse, then foam. But (other than time/effort) I’m not sure if that’s the right time/spot to address those areas or if it should be done as part of the foaming? I think that if you do it as part of foam (and no APC) then those built up areas (or white on rubber) don’t actually come off by the “normal” detail brushes in the tight areas that a mitt/sponge can’t get into. Any thoughts for someone who does overthink things too much?! 🙂. Again, great video - I love how much effort you put into them and how much you try to help other learn/understand!!! Thanks, John
@MirandaDetailing4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah old wax residue I usually attack after the wash since it’s hard to see with the soap. I usually use IPA and a stiffer brush or the edge of a towel to remove that stubborn wax build up. Sometimes a toothpick and the towel helps also.
@MrOmarsaffar3 жыл бұрын
Alot of good ideas.. Good techniques. However I'm wondering about all those chemicals (Shampoo, degreaser, tire cleaner, and all the other chemical products) spilled on the road!! Are these products environment friendly? Or do they require treatment? and what would you advise other mobile detailers in this regard?
@MirandaDetailing3 жыл бұрын
Hi Thanks...It really depends on your locality and laws in your area. all the chemicals we use are biodegradable, at least thats what the companies say. The amount used is also very minimal and diluted. some detailers choice to use reclaim mats and then vacuum the waste water out and dump it in nearby grass, which is standard EPA regulation, and others dump it down a toilet which will then be treated properly.

I thought you're supposed to use wheel cleaner and clean the wheels and tires with a brush first, guess I'm wrong
@MirandaDetailing3 жыл бұрын
Hi. So thats why I explained in the video, it doesn't really matter. If you're working alone then sure, do the wheels first if that works for you. But if you are working with two people then it doesn't matter if you do wheels first or not. There's no right or wrong when it comes to doing the wheels first or not, what matters more is the end result.
@timblackwell31963 жыл бұрын
This was fantastic. I don't believe in the two or three bucket method at all. Seems like detailer fluff. I did not consider an APC wash first. That is awesome! Save time and resources.
@Coderedpirate2 жыл бұрын
One of, if not, the only caveat to the two bucket method is that the “rinse” bucket becomes dirty after the first dunk. I was a bit skeptical too, but you simply have to wring out your mitt before refunding it into your clean soap bucket. Despite your rinse bucket looking absolutely filthy, you’ll find that your soap bucket is still clean

What do you think of people who say you shouldn’t spray down the car before using a foam cannon and that foaming soap is meant to stick better on a dry car??
@MirandaDetailing2 жыл бұрын
Hi. I actually have some videos on that coming out soon. Basically it depends on the situation. If one is a mobile detailer working in the hot sun and the vehicle is hot, then simply foaming it would not be a good idea. Pre rinsing to cool the paint down is best. But in a shop environment and the vehicle is cool to the touch then skipping the pre rinsing works also. Basically either way works in any situation. Some people split hairs about that and it really doesn’t matter.

Thanks Phil! Yes it's critical to rub/scrub/agitate the pillars, window rubber seals and all those areas, otherwise when you dry those surfaces, your drying towel picks up black grime from dirty greasy rubber and that's not fun to see or clean off the drying towel.

hey man i have a question. after you use that drying liquid in the drying stage is it still okay to put on a sealant? like i have the sealant from turtle wax
@MirandaDetailing3 жыл бұрын
Hi. You totally could. Most drying aids have limited protection anyway. So layering it is fine. But if one feels that it won’t bond for whatever reason, I simple pane wipe or quick ipa widpedown can solve that worry.
@rickvh01953 жыл бұрын
@@MirandaDetailing thxx i dony really worry about that but if i can add that sealant im happy 😄

What do you do when your drying towels that you use don’t absorb as well as before when you are using spray waxes sealants etc , they get kind of expensive lol but great investment non the less. Thanks
@MirandaDetailing3 жыл бұрын
Hi. We take really good care of our drying towels so last a long time. But usually when they age and stop absorbing as much we just degrade them to use for other purposes. But even if a towel stops absorbing when it’s dry once you get it slightly wet it absorbs better.

Hey Phil what license do you need and insurance? I’m starting my own Mobil detailing out here California.
@MirandaDetailing2 жыл бұрын
Hi. Well not sure about different states. Some towns and counties require a license and others don’t. Also insurance usually falls under garage keepers. Ask you local insurance companies and local townships what you need. 😎👍🏼

And there is no problem washing cars like this and just letting the water run? Do you need an extra license for it?
@MirandaDetailing2 жыл бұрын
Hi. What do you mean by letting the water run or extra license? If you mean water run off, that only applies to water running off into sewers, which we don’t have those at our location. As far as licenses. We only need a general business license for our local area.

So what would you do when there isn't a shady area to work and it's 90 degrees? Do you have issues with it drying up on you too soon?
@MirandaDetailing2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it can be a challenge. But at least our water here is not bad so we don’t worry about water spots or staining. We have worked on black vehicles in direct sun on asphalt before..😬 not fun, but it can be done.
@sidehustlewithgloria4 жыл бұрын
Should I do small sections at a time or the whole car. I'm concern with spotting.
@MirandaDetailing4 жыл бұрын
It depends on your water and if you are working alone. If you are working alone then do a few sections at a time and keep the previous panels wet as you work around. But we don’t have issues with water spots. And if you do a simple detail spray or the next waxing step will take if that.
