ABBA produced this version, they played the instruments and did the all backing vocals. Yes it's them you hear in French in that video, not the backup singers that accompany her, it's entirely lipped synched (including her) not live!! ABBA agreed that she sings their song only if they would produce the track, they didn't want anybody to mess with their material! You should check her rendition of Barbara Streisand's 'Woman in love'!

Mireille is a truly great singer with a fantastic voice. I’ve heard her three to,es live in concerts, and at 70 she is still great. I find it amusing that some Frenchmen pour out their hatred for her without realising that she is a true symbol of France whether they want it or not, and her voice is a national treasure that advertises French culture in much the same way as songs by Edith Piaf.

I am French. I discovered this song much later than the original by ABBA. The ABBA one, at the beginning, I didn't like it more than that. Until I understood the lyrics... and then I also felt all the pain and emottions in the voices. While the music was more uplifting and joyful than the cry of the soul. It became one of my ABBA preparations. Like you, I think it is untouchable. However, I think that Mireille did very well

I actually heard this version first and it (this song that is) was associated with Mireille Mathieu in my mind till I heard the original by ABBA later in life and I was pretty surprised that it was actually ABBA's song because I didn't know it as the ABBA's song before. nonsense. First of all, supposedly superior voice doesnt make any cover version better automatically. You have to catch the song's essense, emotionally get it right, with right approach and delivery. Just being overly dramatic doesnt make any cover version automatically better. Mathieu's version is confrontational and slightly aggressive (especially, in quiet parts where she almost theatrical - whereas in ABBA version Agnetha sings those parts with sadness and humility). Secondly, dont hear much difference vocally - both have intensity and power and ring or treble in their voice. Tone of their voices and singing style are different. Overall, imho, Mathieu's version is good but it's not superior to original. It's slightly aggressive and too theatrical in approach. and almost melodramatic. whereas ABBA's original is more nuanced in its emotional impact, with pure sadness and hurt and sense of regret.

Merci de citer William Sheller, c'est rassurant. Ils ne sont pas si nombreux les compositeurs geniaux en France, et Derek avait eu la pertinence de tomber sur beaucoup d'entre eux. Ses recents choix ringards et surtout irrealiste de ce qu est vraiment la touche francaise commencent a foutre toute sa chaine e l'air ! Nos dislikes et commentaires peuvent peut etre sauver sa chaine de la faillite :-)

C'est hallucinant comment les gens dénigrent des artistes talentueux avec une carrière inégalée avec des pseudos stars qui chantent comme un cheval mais qui ne courent pas aussi vite. La médiocrité des artistes prétendument français a été à son apogée quand on a commencé à glorifier des artistes internationaux dont une en particulier dont je tairai le nom... Bref, comme l'a si bien dit "Litalicious" qui poste des vidéos sur les voix féminines, la France n'a jamais aimé les chanteurs à voix sauf un certain Johnny Hallyday. Après, chacun ses goûts bien-sûr. N'est-elle pas mēprisēe et moquēe depuis le debut des annees 80 ? Pourquoi n'apparait-elle plus a la tēlē (une fois tous les dix ans) depuis ? Elle a fait une courte apparition devastatrice avec l'election de Sarkozy, et a vite redisparu. Est-ce faux ? Aucun single marquant depuis 40 ans. Ce qui est vrai : elle a fait des tournees en Russie, Allemagne, Japon. Ce que font ceux qui n'ont aucun succes en France. Niveau voix, elle est supplantēe par Lara Fabian et Celine Dion depuis longtemps. Et enfin, est-ce faux que les nouvelles generations ne savent meme pas qu-elle a existē ? A moins de vivre dans un trou paumē qui ne recoit pas internet, vous etes quelques uns et tant mieux si un vieux pick up vous maintient des emotions. Elle a le droit d avoir ētē connue dans les annees 70, personne ne lui reproche son age. Des chanteuses de 50 a 70 ans ont vraiment fait carriere sur des decennies, mais pas elle, c'est un echec, tout le monde le sait. Fait partie de toute cette troupe qui "commande" Dereck et qui fait tout pour "dégager" ce qui ne les intéresse pas. Commence à en avoir marre d'eux à force! C est honteux d oser comparer la voix riche et modulable d'Agnetha avec la Valkyrie des beaufs ! Une sous-Piaf sans aucune imagination pour ne faire que des reprises aux arrangements identiques. Une autre interprete plus pertinente aurait proposē SA version totalement rēarrangēe.
