Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another PATREON recommendation with Michel Sardou and his song "Musulmanes." Michel brings on his inspiration for the sahara deserts and Muslim culture for this extraordinary piece of work. The drums, synths, and vocals are unbelievable. Michel also uses excellent cinematography to give us an understanding to his message . It's one not to forget, see it now!

Hi Dereck! Thanks for your react on Michel Sardou. This song released in November 1986 is taken from his eponymous album released in 1987, the fifteenth of his career. It's one of his greatest songs in the 80's sold 400,000 copies and ranked no. 5 in the TOP 50 and certified silver disc. This song was born following his two Paris-Daker participations in 1984 and 1985. So he wanted to pay homage not only to the landscape or to the population but also to Muslim women, to their pain, their life of submission, their courage. He evokes, with tenderness and emotion, the fate of these women dedicated to anonymity, solitude, confinement ... You can hear in the introduction the youyous and the cries of these women from North Africa, before each chorus and at the end of the song. In the music video shot like a short movie directed by Philippe Bensousan, Michel Sardou plays the role of an Aerospace pilot stranded in the middle of the Moroccan desert. He's taken in by a woman and his filel whose the village is attacked by men in blue. They help him hide and get back to his plane once it has been repaired. When he decides to leave to say goodbye to her, she is shot by the blue men and he manages to save the little girl by boarding her on the plane. For your NEXT REACT, I recommend you for 80's songs in the same album: Tous Les Bâteaux S'Envolent (1987) or in 1988 ("The Successor" album) you have La Même Eau Qui Coule, Attention Les Enfants...Danger (1989), one of his children plays in the music video. You also have Chanteur De Jazz from 1985, a song released the year you were born! 😉 Thanks for your amazing work our Frenchie American dude. 👍🇫🇷

The sond doesent speak about a war. More aboute muslim women. Is war a background issue? An invisible base? Maybe. Is the song specifically localized? There is Ghardaïa, which is in Algeria, bordering Libya (not Lebanon). Sana'a, which may be a city in Yemen. I don't think the song is about a particular moment, or a single place. But maybe a war inspired the author. And what about the video clip? I've never seen it before, actually. I think he mostly wants to highlight the heroism of Muslim women. After all, this song doesn't relate the video story.

I've been raised with Sardou's songs and I really don't think he is racist. He's been attacked from every single part, all along his career, because he dealt with many society subjects in his songs. He has always denounced injustice, he has always stood his ground and i have always admired him for that. You should see his duet with Jean-Jacques Goldman, in 1989, for the 1st edition of "Les Enfoirés". Sardou and Goldman sing a song Goldman wrote and composed for Johnny Hallyday, which title is "ton fils". This song deals with immigration and all the difficulties of integration. It says "I'd wish your son to live better than you..." I'm not going to write all the lyrics, but give it a try, you'll love it. 😉 kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4ioZJZ5mZ16as0 this is the official link. I'm disappointed because there was a video of Sardou and Goldman singing together on stage. I guess it's been deleted because of copyright issues. That's really a pity, because they were wonderful together, anyway, the audio is still very emotional.

Hi Dereck, Thank you for your videos and comments which are very interesting. You really explain well the instruments and the transitions . As you like Michel Sardou, you must react to "Je vais t'aimer". This is maybe one or his greatest song. It's a very difficult song to sing and he always said that this song was for him as a benchmark of his voice during a concert. If you listen to it you will understand why. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqrZpp6odsyNY8k

Sardou songs structur are very often .. special, different... atypical. The sound you are speaking about, probably synths, is, indeeed, disturbing. It's like a scream... a singed scream.... that's what he's saying "c'est un cri, c'est un chant" -> "it is a scream, it is a song"
