Hi Miri, I am testing in 3 days and just found your videos, they are so helpful! However, I am getting confused with this one- should we be studying from the 2010 Code of Ethics or the 2015? The 2015 code lists the six principles as: Beneficence, Nonmaleficence, Autonomy, Justice (not separated into social/procedural), veracity, and fidelity. I am finding both versions in my study materials, so am really wondering what is going to be on the actual exam.

Hi Tonya! Thank you for your message and kind feedback. I'm glad you're finding these videos helpful. For this video, I included information from both the 2010 and 2015 AOTA Code of Ethics because the contents from both statements are continuing to be used and referenced across various platforms, websites, study guides and even among practitioners. I can't state whether or not the actual NBCOT exam comprises of one or the other, or both, and am not sure if NBCOT issued an official statement on whether or not the contents of the 2010 Code of Ethics is still in use. But to be safe, I personally studied them both, which is why I chose to include them in my video. These things also frustrated me when I was preparing for the board, so I understand your concern...

Thanks, that sounds like a great plan, I will study both as well. I looked for clarification from NBCOT but couldn't find anything

Oh the stars aligned for us, Brianna! I hope this video provides the clarification you needed. You may not feel 100% prepared or that you know everything, but remember to rely on your critical thinking and reasoning even when you are met with unfamiliar scenarios because that will help you eliminate answer choices and derive to the correct answer. You can do this- you already have everything you need within you to pass. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow, Brianna!!

Hi Miri! Firstly I just wanted to thank you for videos they are a study tool that me and all my classmates are utilizing! I'm taking my NBCOT on the 6th and I'm stuck on TBI's (recognizing kind of the behaviors etc, how they match with the Ranchos Los Amigos, and what you really need to know for the NBCOT) Thanks so much for all the videos!

Hi Rainey! Thank you for your message! I'm so happy to know that you and your classmates are enjoying and utilizing these videos. I'm currently trying to finish out the pediatric milestones, but I've received several requests for TBI and hope to get to it soon. Not sure it'll be possible by the 6th, but will do my best!!

I am referencing the "Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics (2015)." In this, there are only six principals. In your video, you reference the 2010 version. Which version should be referenced for the exam?
@MiriLee5 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephanie, I get this question often so I pinned one of the comments with my response to it. But in short, I included information from both the 2010 and 2015 AOTA Code of Ethics because the contents from both statements were being used and referenced across different study materials and practice exams while I was preparing for the exam. But that was year 2017 and I can't say with certainty whether or not current study materials contain both 2010 and 2015. I also don't know if the actual NBCOT exam comprises of questions from one or the other, or both. To be safe, I personally studied them both and would encourage others to do the same, especially if current study materials continue to reference items from both statements.

Wouldn’t transparency be veracity and not procedural justice?
@MiriLee7 жыл бұрын
Yes, being transparent is upholding the ethics of veracity and I go over this in 23:42. Procedural justice has to do with being fair, impartial and upholding state/territorial law governing the profession (AOTA Ethics). Upholding the law includes being transparent about any potential conflict of interest. Please rewatch from 23:02 to better understand the context of what I was referring to when I was speaking about procedural justice - Here, I am giving an example of how one can uphold the law and ensure compliance (procedural justice) by disclosing potential conflict of interest. This is why understanding the material conceptually is so important instead of memorizing the definition. There may be overlap in some of these definitions, as I mention in the video, so please take some time to review by thinking about different clinical/practical scenarios that would either promote or violate the code of ethics. Hope that helps! You can also review the AOTA Code of Ethics statements here: www.aota.org/About-Occupational-Therapy/Ethics.aspx
