Its not necessary to use that many grades of disks. And it increases the chance of distortion. This video is helpful in that it shows a methodical approach and also hes capturing the glass dust which is better than having it floating around your workshop for the next 2 hours.

Polishing in the drivers vision area of a side mirror may cause distortion and should be avoided if this is a risk

Could u use this on windshields?

I doubt it will work. The hardened side window has a max temp of 70 degrees (according to the video) the windshield wont be as resistant since it is laminated and not hardened. The glue in the lamination could react to the heat and start losing contact and/or form bubbles. Windshields has 2-3 layers of glass wich makes it alot thinner, so I think it will crack.
