The ocean is ever so slowly swallowing up paradise...in this magnificent place...A very sad, yet beautiful video. Thanks to whoever made this awesome video....it will always be a reminder of who 'really' is in charge of our world....it is ALL up to Him....

That was beautiful to see. I didnt realize how close the house's were to the ocean. Kinda scary to think about during a storm.

First thing that came to my mind. Being swallowed by the ocean.

I’m from NC and definitely this part gets taken under every time we get a hurricane. So it is truly amazing to see that houses are still even there

I live in Lexington NC and we try to make at least 1 trip a year out to Buxton and fish, we usually rent a house for a week but end up spending more time in the truck on the sand, I just hope it don't end up like the north end at Carolina Beach when we started fishing there in the 90s it wasn't very popular we would camp on the north end and during the week you hardly seen anyone, now you have to pay out the wazzu to get out there and its so crowded its not even fun there anymore, my dads 85 cj7 golden eagle had the rack on the front for coolers and rod holders across the front and we took a new boat gas tank that fit perfect in the cubby in the back and put a 12v bilge pump with hose and shower head to wash the sand off of ya and we use to set up the tarps and cookers and people would ride by and get 2 tater wedges and a piece of fresh fish, man those were the days

4:01 if you look on the right side of the screen you’ll see the home where parts of the movie was filmed. The house has blue shutters, you can’t miss it.

Note that OBX is not being swallowed up. It is simply being moved.....as it has been since its creation. In macro view the arc of movement is largely predictable. In micro view, no one knows. Hence, Rodanthe.

Quite right, and the process would be working better if we humans would stop fucking interfering with it. Every time a storm blows sand across highway 12 that is the island trying to migrate to the west, taking sand from beachside and building up on the backside of the island. Now if we humans had any sense we would push that sand off the road onto the west side of the island where it is trying to get to but no we pile it back up on the beach side and starve the island building process. So then we end up with an island that isn't migrating properly and it starts to narrow up and we have more problems with sound side flooding and over wash and the island can't retain it's mass as well. For decades we've tried to lock this dynamic system into place and it just can't be done. I recognized the problem in my mid 20s and said back then we need to be building causeways and bridges and stop trying to keep these inlets from opening and shifting. And now 25 years later we are finally getting the jug handle bridge and New Inlet has the temporary bridge (even though it closed back up) and THAT is how we should be doing it. Next time the inlet blows through Canadian Hole they need to think hard about building a permanent bridge there and leaving it there whether the inlet remains or not. And they need to stop making freaking sand piles on the east side of the damn highway.

The "Jug Handle" bridge is a long time coming. The S curves have been a splinter in the NCDOT since the island migrated west decades ago. The Federal Government has refused all requests to move the road because of the Wildlife Refuge that shares the same border with the village of Rodanthe.

I've always wondered why they didn't move the damn road back and now I know. Yes the jug handle is long long long overdue and even getting it through the environmental regulations was a massive headache. In another 20 years those houses on the beach will either be in the ocean or relocated to another part of the island and the S curves will be completely gone.

Wow! In a few short years, I'm guessing that road will be totally submerged.

It’s stunningly beautiful. I live in NC. But you can just tell that this is all on very borrowed time. The Outer Banks are flooding more and more often. Visit now while you still can.

Going north of the town you will head towards Nags Head, Kitty Hawk.... continuing to go south will lead you through Avon and then Cape Hatteras.
