I believe its the "Mach-Dvorak Phenomenon" Tim was describing at the end. When you put your sunglasses over one eye you reduce the illumination in that eye which effects how quickly your brain processes the image. Resulting in an "interocular delay" of a few hundredths of a second. Each eye sees a different time, thus timescope.

OH MY GOD!!! As a kid in the early 1970's, I had "The Magic Mirror Book" and I loved to play with it! I had totally forgotten about that book until I saw it in this video!
@justimagine24033 жыл бұрын
Where to get one?
@BlackburnBigdragon3 жыл бұрын
@@justimagine2403 I'm assuming that it's long out of print. I remember that I got it from one of those Scholastic book catalogs that they used to give us in grade school. I got mine probably around 1975 or 76. It had a cardboard mirror, and it was a little like a puzzzle. It would say like, find the clown, or find the person. And you would have to hold the mirror at a certain angle on the picture to find the item. As a kid, I used to like moving the mirror all over the pictures, making strange shapes and moving the mirror around, making the shapes and stuff move. I was 5 or 6. That was entertainment back then. I can't find the book online. I looked. Like another book I loved from that time period, "Amazing Monster Mazes", it seems long out of print and lost to time. Those two books were my favorite strange activity books when I was a kid. "Amazing Monster Mazes" had some really great, and goofy artwork that put it a cut above most kids' activity books at the time. Just look at these pictures: secretfunspot.blogspot.com/2008/10/amazing-monster-mazes.html

Ah, I remember that! It was from 1993; Dimensions In Time. More details: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimensions_in_Time - it was a Children In Need special featuring a crossover between Doctor Who and EastEnders. It used something called the Pulfrich effect to achieve the 3D illusion.

tim here in canada and the states we call them 2 way mirrors not half mirrors so if you want them go on google and search 2 way mirror and there is even a company I found that sells 2 feet by 100 feet for a resonable price and they come in 70% opacity and 50% opacity meaning their harder to see through the back but they reflect more light on the opposing side. they sell them to replace outer windows on houses apperently.
@jennerfrench78138 жыл бұрын
What this actually reminds me of is an ersatz 3D illusion I came across quite a few years ago known as the pulfrich or pendulum effect, which involves the viewer observing footage from a movie through specs that that work with one lens slightly darker than the other. An animated pendulum seemed to swing clear in and out of the picture and into the observer's line of sight.

I had a pair of these newer spy glasses, probably even the exact same design, got them from Donald Duck magazine in early 00's. It's cool that by looking at the front no one could tell there are any mirrors, because these were half mirrors so they saw only a bit darker area. Unfortunately I wouldn't wear them and become a top spy, because everyone told me I looked ridiculous with them...

My guess at the time scope is that because light slows down when going though something of a higher refractive index, like the glass lense of the sun glasses, the waves coming into the covered eye take slightly longer to that eye than the uncovered eye. Though I don't imagine the effect is very appreciable.
