Our subtitles are partly for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. But also for people who have a bit of English, but who find speech (and Tim does speak quickly) harder to follow. Also, our English subtitles are the starting point for the very kind people who then translate them into other languages.

Very nice. I actually have an 'odd' deck of cards as well. Bicycle makes what they call the 'Tactical Field Playing Cards', specifically for the US military. These are made more durable and use special ink for the red cards. The reason is that military personnel often have downtime on patrols or post, where they use red light to preserve night vision. Under red light, it's difficult to distinguish black and red cards, but the special maroon ink on the tactical cards makes this easy.

500 (the trick taking game, not the rummy game), is probably most popular in Australia, although it was invented in the USA. The black suits have 2 extra cards (the 11 and 12), and the red suits have 3 extra cards (11, 12, and 13). The extra cards are only required for the six player version of the game. The game itself is somewhat similar in complexity to bridge, and has some similarities to bridge, but is usually played much less seriously than bridge. You can buy six player 500 decks everywhere in Australia. Even in the supermarket. The brand that Tim has here (Queen's slipper) seems to be the most popular.

A small correction: Queen's Slipper is one of the better brand of cards in Australia. The pack with 11s and 12s (and probably some 13s if you look carefully) is a "500 deck" for playing a specialised version of 500 (which I guess is not well known outside Australia?)

My dad had a deck of cards where every card had a picture of a topless woman on it - my mam referred to them as “dad’s rudies!”. Can’t help laughing at the deck with such things as the three-and-a-half of clubs and the fifteen of diamonds - or the Queen’s Slipper deck, with the 11 and 12 in it! I defy anyone to play pontoon with those decks - get two elevens and you’re bust - short of making them count as 10! What really made me laugh was the Jill card - ace, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, Jack, Jill, queen and king! Then that deck with the mixed up cards - the ace of spades is the one of spades!

For magic, the cards are usually termed "Gaff cards". Here's a pack: www.amazon.com/MJM-Bicycle-Rider-Playing-Bocopo/dp/B07THFPL29 The main purpose of said cards are, for example, magically transforming a 7 of spades (Yes, that is saying that they are used in combination with a normal deck) into, say, two 3½ of clubs. Sometimes, basic gaff cards (such as a double-backed card) are used to make tricks easier, and reduce the slight of hand needed for the trick. Have fun with the cards!
