@bufflaoe2 Thats what I said, they are hidden away extras. This rat easter egg isnt a cheat as it doesnt help you on the game. A cheat is a code. A secret is something thats hidden away that helps you out on a game such as the ray gun on little resistance (world at war). And an easter egg is something thats hidden away but doesnt help you and is just for fun, it is usually funny, strange or random

I can only assume that some player(s), noticing the dots, decided to just shoot the sign on a whim, got the correct dot, saw the rat, and tried again to test the exact conditions for triggering it.
