Very interested to see how you shortened the main. Nice little chop there! Good heavens!

Well done that man, a very enjoyable video. I have one virtually identical infact I thought it was mine at first. I was thinking about selling it but seeing you have so much fun in yours Im not so sure.

Excellent, it's asking a lot, but would be great if you could cut back to the chart to indicate where landmarks you refer to are on the map.

I noticed you commented on the druscome lugger, can the mirror outrun one of them. I have finished my gaff main inspired by your vidoes, could not get a second hand one so made a new one using sailcut and some red supercruise 4 oz cloth, can't wait to try it. How much clearance do you have in the jaws, do you have to allow the gaff to twist a little. Please keep these videos coming you are a legend.

Thank you for posting such a lovely video, I enjoy watching your adventures in your remarkable boat. It has inspired me to join your club and start dinghy cruising myself, starting with inland waterways to gain some much needed experience. I will contact you soon to have a prop per chat please?

I grew up sailing a Mirror Dinghy on a small lake in Canada, in nothing nearly like the swells in these waters of yours. I partly wonder whether all of this reefing of main and jib is just a lark really, because my recollection is that the full rig Mirror was not that hard to handle. However, I bet it does make things a bit calmer. (I'd understand reefing when single handing a Wayfarer for instance) I'm wondering how active your role in keeping the boat from trouble in the waves is. Do you occasionally have to lunge to a gunnel to prevent a capsize, or are you hunkered down on the centre line the whole time?...I feel like retiring, buying/building a Mirror and moving to nearer the Thousand Islands and living the life I see you live in these videos!! Kudos, for now I settle for late night binge watching until my eyes hurt...ha ha.

If the wind gets up to about F5 the standard Mirror gets over powered in my experience. I normally sit on the side bench and do not usually sit on the gunwale. It reduces vision and is really uncomfortable for hours on end. Reefing makes an enormous improvement, and the boat immediately feels safe, with the smaller, low rig. I have sailing in F7 (30 knots) with a reefed mainsail alone. I do tend to move around a bit in rough waves but I can often slob out on the floor, which is my preferred sailing posture. I would encourage you to get a small boat and start enjoying sailing.
