I found your channel for the first time today. I feel oil pastel is such a great medium but most people don't understand, and oil pastel artists are not very common as well. I'm more partial to the Impasto style. I noticed that you were applying refined linseed oil with a brush, do you have to spray fixative on the piece prior to that? I've tried applying a gloss varnish as a final step and it seemingly removed the pastels even when I sprayed fixative on it first. Any thoughts? Cheers! 🤩

Lovely to watch, listen and learn! Will be getting a set of soft pastel soon. Could you please share how you varnish or persist the paintings, I do hop homes and worried how will I carry the unframed? Do they ever dry? A video on that would be super awesome.

Thank you! I use Sennelier fixative to prevent getting dust or smudges. after 2-3 coats your drawing should be ready to be framed☺️ and I always frame it with a spacer so that the pigments won't stick to the glass :)

After applying linseed oil or thinner for blanding with oil pastels, could I apply fixative or varnish directly? How long should I wait for the linseed oil to dry before varnishing it? Does acrylic varnish work on linseed oil or thinner?

At 17:17, are you dipping your paintbrush in the linseed oil that I see in your video description? I have used alcohol before but this looks thicker and it did not obliterate the mark making like alcohol. Were the layers underneath sprayed with (workable?) fixative before you painted with the brush or only afterward? Would your ruler scraping have had the same effect if you had not painted over sections in what I am assuming to be the dipped oil, touched to the pastel tip? Thank you! Love the video and the work.
