I wonder how many studies are simply discovering that the people tested don't care and put no effort or thought into their responses, simply wanting it over with at the least cost in time and effort to themselves, unless the study gets them engaged in some way first.

I would say that those kind of ppl wouldn’t last long in studied bec it’s obvious to tell when someone is not interested and won’t give truthful answers

And almost any study has multiple attention tests that can easily be overread when not paying attention. If you ignore these, you are not perceived as a valuable subject to the matter

I've heard of simular studies. Basically invoking any strong emotions, if done right will have a similar effect. So, just don't be boring. Do something that involves activity, preferably towards a shared goal.

I go to the University of Texas, and I had a class with Dr. Cindy Meston. We learned about this, but we addressed it as 'Excitation Transfer'. I personally prefer this title. Misattribution seems to give some underlying negative context to it.

From what I understand, it's the misunderstanding of one's own emotions, which would seem detrimental and justify the name. Is this incorrect?
@pyschologygeek3 жыл бұрын
Misattribution of arousal is a term in psychology which describes the process whereby people make a mistake in assuming what is causing them to feel aroused. For example, when actually experiencing physiological responses related to fear, people mislabel those responses as romantic arousal.

Sorry, I don't understand this study. The straight male participants were more likely to call a woman than a man. Shouldn't this be expected regardless of the bridge? These are straight males, right? What was the control group here? Participants that took the test on the ground with numbers given from male and female testers?
@drunkondandelions3 жыл бұрын
can I use this to trick myselfe to like a good person? i sadly only find way to controling people attrctive (yes, i have some issues to work through), but can i try to trick myselfe into liking someone who I know is a great, kind and genuin person and i should like, but since i apparently can only feel unhealty attrcktion i was wandering if i can use this to trick myslefe into liking a decent person...

It proved the hypothesis... no... no it didn't lol. There are so many variables on why the men called a woman over a man... and a bridge might not just be the only factor.

Is this misattribution long lasting? Is it something one can get along with? I am a female and I think this happened to me and now I wonder what will happen if I express my feelings (which would probably be reciprocated) to the guy I’m now interested on. Is this “arousal” gonna vanish as fast as it was born?
@danielbrown72633 жыл бұрын
I would guess that the long lasting implications would depend on how much the misattribution influenced your thinking
