If the external grids were 12 scu each, double layer, then it would balance out better

Your comments is a perfect example of what they should do. Balance the fortune to have an advantage over the vulture instead of nerfing the vulture in line with the fortune. But that kind of hope feels out of reach.

Agreed we really need a medium sized salvage ship with a reasonable amount of cargo capacity.

@@mdiego3847 The unique selling point of the Fortune is ‘ease of use’, in other words, the automatic grid system. If it would double stack, it would have an advantage over the Vulture indeed, however it is slower with only one salvage head (about 2/3 of the Vulture’s salvage speed). So imho, considering the salvage speed penalty, that would balance it out.

They should have slapped the fortunes cockpit on a freelancer max body with printing to the sides/internal grid but stacking being manual so like 48scu external and 120 something internal with a 52scu buffer printer capable of doing 4scu boxes

@@ArchAngelWC Yes strange that MISC cockpit are said to be the worst, except for the Prospector and Fortune that are the best ! The slit window is not the real issue. The bad view comes from the rear position of the seats meaning the slit window only give horizontal view.

A lot of the latest ships are pre-nerfed at release! This reminds me of the Zeus. Other than looks no discernible advantage over other ships of its type, and lots of disadvantages over all of them.

Another consideration is the Fortune's HUD is a pale yellow that gets lost in a lot of environment backgrounds, while the Vulture's HUD is a red bordered orange that is visible in all environmental backgrounds and even facing Stanton or Orison's brightness. (Now if only CIG could get the HUD to keep their colors instead of changing like an RGB computer fan)

This makes me glad I pledged a Vulture to fit inside my Polaris hangar (which takes a lil wiggling) but I did notice the Fortune fits Easily into the Polaris hangar, but right now, its not worth it.

The external grid on the Fortune makes it possible to snap salvaged components and large guns on the outside, which would normally have to be stacked loose in the Vulture. That would make stealing this kind of equipment much faster with a Fortune. If it had better stealth than the Vulture, you could argue it was better at criminal salvaging. But it doesn't.

It is nice to have different ships available for single players. Thanks for your video and comparison. For the Fortune to be a real game changer or a solid consideration, it desperately needs to be multi-role ship. It is built on the same frame as the prospector, just repurposed for salvage instead. So why doesn't the Fortune have the capability of changing the tool head (from scraper to mining - or vice versa), and have an attachment for the mining bags. To do this, you can access the ship menu to make the changes, the same as you do with weapon selections, or other ship components. A duel role ship would then be a game changer as one ship has multi-roles and gameplays. -Art

I like my EVE inspired Drake Vulture. Sure, the Fortune gets better QT range and better cargo carrying opportunities, but the Vulture is more maneuverable and you have less fiddling with the cargo space overall. And its Drake, old school industrial.

@skullhqx 33 минут бұрын
Perhaps, but if you resist maxing out and only put 7 SCU in the back (3 ungridded on the porch and 4 on the lift’s grid) you have 32 SCU total capacity (12 gridded and 13 in the buffer). This is a very doable, low jank way of using the Fortune. I really don’t miss the off grid jank of the Vulture using the Fortune. If you play the Fortune to its strengths (auto gridding) it is quite a relaxed way of salvaging and quite fast as well, maybe even leave out the 7 SCU backside stuff and just have a shorter salvage session. It’s good we have a side grade choice imho. o7

This is a great review Foxy: very in depth and detailed. As expected Vulture easily wins because it has dual scraping lasers. Any kind of convenience the Fortune has with exterior loading is lost if you try to maximize your salvage run by loading the interior . Didn't even think about the stealth numbers either. I get having peer level ships (especially in industrial class) for personal preference and flavor, but its not really close here. Its like comparing the F7C to the F7A.

I got them (as small CCU) because they fit twice in the hangar of my polaris, rather a prospector and a fortune. however i also own the vulture and reclaimer and will keep them both. if you don't have any salvage ships yet then always go for the vulture. was hoping they would sell it as a starter pack for under 100 dollars, for a beginner the fortune is a great starter ship and money printing machine. But once again they put greed before sense... and promised quality & content like 4.01 but delivered nothing but frustration!

From the looks of the concept art the vechicle part of the cargo bay looks to be big enough to hold a Balista! you could probobly squeeze 3 or 4 rocks in there along with the Fortune and the prospecter! True exploration right there. It may not be the master of any one task. but its a ship setup that quite litteraly can do it all! Im just hoping CIG will give it a cupple of Point defence turrets since all the other big ships seem to be getting them.

One this many are missing is that while you are placing cargo on the grid in the Vulture, no one is monitoring for enemy contacts. In the Fortune you can print 12 boxes and then fill the buffer without leaving the cockpit. MUCH safer.
@hiphopgrinch
@hiphopgrinch 6 сағат бұрын
What about a timed race for filling up the cargo grid with all the RMC you scrape? Vulture you have to get out and unload the buffer and then keep scraping. The Fortune you can just set the buffers to auto-eject and keep scraping without getting out of your seat. Effectively, the Fortune can scrape and eject 12SCU out onto the cargo grids and fill the buffer afterwards without getting out of the seat, and not being a sitting duck if something shows up.

Yes, this is the Fortune(ate) way of using it. Play it to its strength, which is convenience. I could do without filling the inside. Would have been perfect to have a double auto-stacked grid on the sides, but this thing is made for shorter sessions. And it has a great cockpit view without the ‘arms’ that get in the way. o7

I got 39 on the Futune today and Yesterday (and I have only run it twice) with room to walk through every room. To be able to go out and find a good set of panels and not have to stop until you get basically 25 on board. Thats 12 on grids and 13 in hopper is very nice. Then you roll down and whatever you want to get inside and go fill up again. I just leave both sides on Auto Eject and it spits them out. It is also a bit easier to load to actually do some cargo runs, because it can snap up to 4scu boxes on the outside grids and then the four on the bottom. I do find it has some very decent advantages not discussed, and I have been a vulture owner for a very long time.

The Fortune was actually sold at a higher warbond price then the Vulture: 160$ vs the 150$of the Vulture. It was 140$ at presales. Is still like the Fortune and the convenience of not having to move boxes while printing. In the real world, you do not, realistically, scrap big ships with these scrapers and panels are a hit and miss, fast to scrape and sparce to find. I dont see a huge yeld difference in real game. My question is: why work on a Prospector and give it uslesly close stats to an already existing and updated ship, rather then working on a RAFT chassis, which has 2 seats and could ideally print 32 SCU containers, or even fill up pre loaded empty 32SCU boxes with a hose already set with a proper control cabin in the upper floor?
@warren3174
@warren3174 8 сағат бұрын
Panels are incredibly easy and fast to find. The Fortune is going to store 12 SCU for you and YOU are going to do all the work to struggle the rest inside the ship around the automatic doors. While you're double checking that you can walk around the labor you just stored inside the guy in the Vulture is just returning to the field after dropping its first load. There is a big difference in yield. I'd love to see a race.

@Dracounguis 7 сағат бұрын
Unless I missed it, for the comparison you completely ignored the automated stacking of the 12 boxes on the exterior of the Fortune. Yes the Vulture collects 67% faster, but then you also need to factor in the time unloading it from the internal storage and stacking it on the cargo grid.
@icewyrm.
@icewyrm. 42 минут бұрын
I agree to an extent - an ideal comparison would be starting each ship at a given location and then completing a specific identical salvage task before returning to station and unloading the grid to the cargo lift., thus giving you a more accurate "average completion time" of the complete salvaging experience. Something like salvaging a large ship supplied by a friend, such as a C2 for example. You could do a similar exercise by panel salvaging for a longer period of time, the issue there is that time spent finding the panels can sometimes vary, which might throw out your result and not give you an accurate comparison. On the other hand, managing the vultures cargo buffers and cargo grid is a significantly smaller portion of the time you spend compared to the actual act of salvaging. You only leave the cockpit to print and stack the boxes, plus some extra fiddle time to optimize your offgrid stacking. I'd estimate 90% of your time spent is spent actually salvaging as opposed to managing cargo. On top of that, you can park the vultures rear ramp very closer to the cargo elevator, minimizing box travel time and allowing you to offload from a single location. I suspect that unloading a full fortune grid might actually be slightly slower as a result. Worth testing perhaps, if someone hasn't already.

@Dracounguis
@Dracounguis 7 сағат бұрын
That's the important part. Salvage is a two-part job, collecting and storage. You can't just say vulture has two salvage heads so it wins. You have to factor in moving boxes around in the cargo bay that the Fortune does not have to do.

Internal stowage and two salvage heads, Vulture is simply a more flerxible ship. How much of a C1 can you salvage is quite a good comparison. Compnents, weapons and scrape the hull.. I see a potential use case for the Trawler on the misfortune. Final test, hostile bunker run. The Vulture can get an STV in the back and still fit in some loot or compnents form any derelicts in the erea. IMO the MisFrotune is really restricted to panel scraping in stealth mode somrplace quiet. But neither stand a chnace if some kid in a Hornet thinks Brrrt for giggles.

The Fortune is superior to the Vulture when doing multi ship team salvage, due to the automated external storage. Otherwise the Vulture has an edge in most other areas. If you already own a Vulture stick with it... but if you are looking to get something new and you don't already have a small salvage ship they are close enough that the variation between them becomes a matter of playstyle and taste since those edges are so minor.

With your stacking demo you weren't entirely clear. If you are on a salvaging run in the vulture only filling 1scu boxes the total you can pack in is 39. And it's much less fiddly than 26 max you can stack in the fortune. Also everyone goes on about how fortune is safer cos you don't have to leave your seat in the fortune. This only applies if you are prepared to do a minimum load run, ie 12 on grid and 12 in the hopper, to use the grid on the lift or load off grid in the ship there will be far more time out of seat activity compared with vulture. I think vulture is by far the best ship for small salvage.

I think if the fortune had a larger size scraper (and therefore a scraping speed very close or equivalent to the vulture) it would be a reasonable alternative to the vulture, even at the same price point. Fortune wins hands down for me. The "features" the Drake "wins" on don't matter to how I'll use it. The range, ease of use, flexibility, shields, and components all favor the Fortune, and I don't need to carry an STV or go 60% faster when salvaging or try to pray the loose boxes don't bang around and destroy the ship. For chill salvaging the Fortune is the winner in my book. But Drake folks like Drake so suit yourself =-) I honestly think they missed an opportunity to make an ARGO version based on the SRV (and another on the MOLE for multi crew) but oh well.
