Hard to understand why you would have a humidity problem after a total encapsulation. It’s suppose to be close to air tight from the outside. Trust what you say. Great video

Should the HVAC be on during mold remediation for crawl space work, occurring prior to encapsulation? Will have to air scrubbers in doors. IEP showed indoor air is not effected. Negative air pressure, scrubbers, plastic down, PPE will all be used under ground. Encapsulation co says to turn HVAC off, while the remediation co has asked to keep it on to keep the crawl space cooler during what will be a rainy week in North Central Florida. Going to do small particle cleaning afterwards, but we're working on a tight deadline and have a very sick toddler.

When you add a dehumidifier how do you run a drain for the water with plastic down? Or do you dump it all the time?

Hey Eric! Thanks for the question. Condensate pumps have reservoirs that collect condensate from dehumidifiers and act like sump pumps. When the reservoir reaches a certain level, a float triggers the pump, which drains the water to the termination spot through the drain pipe. Choosing a condensate pump requires determining whether the crawl space is high enough to allow the dehumidifier to be installed high enough to allow proper drainage into the pump reservoir. The condensate will back up into the dehumidifier if the condensate pump is installed without the proper drop onto the moisture barrier. This defeats the purpose of the dehumidifier. I have a 2,500 sqft crawlspace in my new home that is by a lake in Virginia. I had a company just recommend that I install two Aprilaire e130s upon encapsulation. Could that be right? I thought that one e130 would be more than enough for a crawlspace of that size. Is there any scenario in which you guys would install two e130s in a crawlspace of that size? Thanks

Hey Jeff, their recommendation could be based off of your local code requirements. You will have to do some research to see how many pints per day are required per square foot in your area. Another reason why they could have recommended two is if your crawl space is split up in a way that would restrict the dehumdified air from getting to all areas of the crawl space.
