I call B.S. Yes, journalists are supposed to verify what they report. I have a journalism degree and they drilled it into us. But I went into P.R. And journalists almost never check anything I tell them. If they think it will get eyeballs, they run with it.

I used to read the newspaper first page to last, 7 days a week. Then the size of the paper got smaller and the price got bigger. Then it went to 6 days a week, and the price got bigger. Now it's gone to 2 days a week, but I'm not sure about the price. I stopped buying it. As for television news, there are media out there that lean so far one way, if you put them on a boat, they'd capsize.

Bruh. We can see with our eyes that journalistic bias has increased. We need the Fairness Doctrine back and actual oversight on news media

Is the first line meant to be one of the misconceptions? The press is the only job mentioned in the constitution? It's pretty well-known for talking about legislators & judges, as well as mentioning the military and post office, don't you think?

I forgot the exact quote, but if person A says it's raining, and person B says it isn't raining, the reporter's job isn't to provide equal coverage; the reporter's job is to look out the window and see if it's raining.

Some anecdotes: 1. I can say from experience that battles and murders are some of the most popular history topics. With an honorable mention to treasure. 2. About a decade ago, one of my local papers announced they were making the editorial decision to focus on three specific local issues. They still covered other topics, but they covered those three topics more often and if there was any news pertaining to those issues they got prominent front-page billing. 3. I know a longtime reporter who retired in part because he was tired of covering bad news. After he left, the paper offered to pay him for guest articles, which he accepted on the condition he could choose what events to write about, because he only wanted to write about good stuff. 4. I know someone currently employed by a newspaper whose primarily job is to basically cover "Florida Man" stories.

At first I thought he was joking about people thinking journalists are rich. People really think that? They must not know any journalists themselves

Print is dead. I don't buy the notion that people prefer a hard print copy over digital, unless they've been living under a rock for the past 30 years.

Journalism has always been biased, the writers are not able to remove their bias from their writings, they never have been able to. Even Plato and Socrates have bias in their writings.

Interesting how fast people got mad in the comments. Giving the stats and turning some of the high end words into every day speak seemed to be without bias to me.

Airline pilots make less than many journalists!!! Unless you are a Captain flying long-haul to Europe with 30 years of seniority. Regional commercial pilots barely make over minimum wage.

4:27 and if you believe that I got a bridge to sell you. I'm impressed he could even say that with a straight face. Especially since the definition of a journalism literally means anyone that covers something and don't aren't bound to any rules. This includes the mainstream media. Why do you think the creator of yellow journalism and tabloid news is regarded with such high praise by media outlets. The greatest award a journalist can receive is named after the person aka the Pulitzer award and here's a fun fact, Pulitzer was the guy who brought both the leftist slant we know in news today and shaped the Democratic party to what it is today. Ironic....

The people hating on journalists in the comments don't know who journalists actually are. The talking heads on TV talking about political issues are NOT journalists (even if they say they are). They're often citing journalists, who are the actual people on the ground getting the quotes and reporting on the events. That is often a thankless job that does not deserve the public's hate

The press is an essential check on the government and the founders recognized it. Those who vilify the entire industry do so to discredit it with the gullible to weaken it as check on their political or business abuses. It's similar to how racism works and how political vilification works and how so many other ways used today of controlling the gullible by triggering the fears and prejudices of the intellectually vulnerable. The founding fathers knew this. And they new that open and free press was the key to preventing the abuses they suffered.

So are journalists who don't work for mainstream press ok? If so, you're lumping an entire profession into its most mass produced version and completely ignoring all the journalists out there risking their lives regularly to break stories about political and corporate corruption. They still die regularly in some countries but tell me why I should hate them for that.

The start of that was so wrong. The constitution did not protect any job. When it refers to "the press" it literally meant the removable type printing press. There wasn't media companies, press companies or anything like that. We've later interpreted that more broadly. There is no way the founders could have imagined the internet and the ease of communications. It wasn't protecting the job of "the press" it was protecting the printing press including it's ownership and use.

There is no "Washington State." The name of the state is simply Washington, or it is correct to refer to the state of Washington just as any other state. If differentiation between Washington or the nation's capital is needed, call the latter by its full name, Washington, D.C. or just D.C.

That press you're thinking of wasn't neutral. It was just biased to the opposite extreme. There is no such thing as moderate journalism. No one who wants to influence people's opinions (which you need to to be a journalist) is a moderate. If they were, they wouldn't care what other people thought.
