thank you for explaining this nicely. My film study professor is trash and quite rude.

Thank you very much sir. Your explanation is one of the best explanation i found. One question I have is, does every scene and shot tell a story, i mean symbol or metaphor. Like we see in your video,

Hi There thank you for the video, interesting. With all due respect to your French studies and former French teacher, it is pronounced it has the same sound as the river Seine or as in the word 'send'. Your pronunciation sounds very like 'mise en sang' which sounds like "blooding" or putting in blood! Hope you don't mind me correcting this. :)

Thanks for the clear explanation but my bad French accent is meant to be a joke. It's a running joke with the students in my class.

I feel my intuition is always off when analysing and interpreting movie scenes. Is there a way to develop this intuition? My initial thought was that the two dark characters/officials are here to take the house from the owner, who is a caretaker of the little boy outside.

I think your interpretation of the shot makes sense based on what you're seeing. You've taken the clues from the shot to draw a logical conclusion. You'd need to know the storyline of the film, the context of the shot, to be able to interpret it correctly.

@@chrisgatt2965 Thanks. I never heard the dialogue, i was just looking at it visually. Someone on youtube said to turn off the sound and then try and analyse the cinematography of a film, so that’s what i did. So then at first viewing i thought “what an interesting composition”. I noticed the size difference of the characters, the amount of space they occupy on the screen, to be more precise. Noticed the framing of the boy through the window and wondered about how did he know where to move, not to go out of that frame? The visual clues and deeper meaning of size difference of the characters in the shot escaped me. I would have never figured it out (they are in control, hence they are in the foreground to appear bigger, bear more “visual weight”). What about lighting? Music? Dialogue, tone, voice, pitch, rhythm of speech? So many moving parts and all of them play a role. This is why i love cinema. I wish i could sit and analyse movies with someone all day. Doing this by yourself really sucks. You never know if you are right or wrong, hence it’s hard to teach yourself this stuff.

Cool "mis en sang" - "putting in blood" - life would be easier, if everybody would try to respect the right pronounciation.
