1998 Peugeot 106 Sport here!! Only difference with the standard 1.4 PSA engine, which is common to the Xsara and countless other models through generations, is that you get twin injectors per cylinder, hence a more punchy engine but you can never keep your hand far away from the gear shift..). At my very own level I got exactly the feeling you are describing, watching this. High point was last year in the Col de la Forclaz in France, a flippin 911! Left on my arse at every reacceleration but right back to his bumper on the brakes, back tyres sideways and adrenaline through the red burgundy roof, haha... It was probably less impressive from the outside, he was probably no Senna etc. but no matter, the amount of fun and actual feeling on these things is endless. Salut from France.

As a RWD snob, I love seeing how a good FWD points, balances and dances around the car’s front end grip. Surely the ‘anti lag’ is a leaky/dribbly injector allowing fuel through to be combusted in the hot exhaust. I love the impromptu short shift he achieves by shifting the gear lever lower down at the gear boot/cover. I wonder if a BMW e36 318ti coupe can point into corners with the same balance as this car. Just out of curiosity - what made you think there was any double-clutching here? Are you from US? @@Kalandaari I am running the later engine, the ES9J4S. The engine is now in it's second chassis and has done lots laps on Zolder, Zandvoort, Assen and about 800 laps on the nordschleife. The engine seems to handle the abuse well, the only problem that I see with these engines is oil leaking from the valve covers (which can be fixed easily) and vacuum hoses that turn to crumbles after 20 years.
