Another info: Vietnam, initially, did not have RPK, but they took the Type 56 receiver(milled and stamped), slap on a longer and heavier barrel on it, and called TUL-1. This one is inferior to RPK but being a makeshift project, the performance is acceptable. We eventually have proper RPK later btw

I'd just like to add that Yugoslavia did issue drums for the RPK (although I have never seen them used in any combat footage) as they are outlined in the manual issued by Yugoslavia for the AK series of rifles. This manual is dated 1983 and titled "PRAVILO PUSAKA I PUSKOMITRALJEZA 7.62mm"

It was either in this video or the one on Yugo AKs that i said that Yugoslavia did obtain drums from Russia or Romania or where ever, but that I'd never seen a Zastava made one and in the field the M72 is usually seen just with a standard mag, cheers.

Beautiful collection. I'm still pissed I never picked up a 1v 5.56 rpk when they were available. I was so disappointed they didn't import a 5.45 version so I settled for a FM-AK74-21

Yes actually, quite seriously. Have you priced Russian or Bulgarian RPK74 frontends lately though? I estimated it would have cost at least $1,000 in parts, a rifle worth at least $1,300, and another $500 for someone to pull the old barrel and put in the new. In the end, it could have ended up running as much as $3,000 - or at least $2,700 if lucky.

Great video. A little oops on the barrel length of the Zastava M72 barrel length. It is not 23.5" like the Russian/Romanian it is 21.4" +/-

39:15 - N Korea did adopt the 5.45mm through the Type 88 AK-74. 40:00 - The Romanian md. 93 also had the 3 round burst FCG - there was a also short lived md. 92 that didn't. Also there are quite a few fixed stock md. 93 guns in service. I don't know if there was any reason behind the difference in issuance.

Thank you, I hadn't heard that N. Korea adopted the 5.45mm. Of course you are right on the PM-93 having the 3 way fire mode, just like on the PA-86. We discuss it a bit in the previous AK History video (Pt.3). Very interesting on the PM-92. Were both the fixed stock and folding 5.45 Cugir RPKs called PM-93? or was the fixed called the PM-89? cheers & thank you again for any info you can provide.

Ozark Bear Arms To be more specific, real mass production of the PA md. 86 for the domestic military started in 89 (after the S African 88 order intended for UNITA). Early in the 90s it was decided to continue switching to 5.45 for simplicity. The 92 and 93 were adopted as a result of that. (funnily enough most of the adoption happened after the agreement to pursue NATO membership was signed by all parliamentary factions)

Thanks...I thought "PM-89' was probably BS...but someone online claimed it was the fixed stock version, with the PM-93 being the folder. Most sources though say what you are saying, so its good to know. Do you know if the folding stock version of the Cugir RPK in 7.62x39 was still just designated the PM-64? or did it receive a new name like the PM-63 did when updated to PM-90?

Do you have any info on the 1989 dated PM-64s converted into AES-10Bs for the US market? They had the folding stock and adjustable bipod, cheers.

A small thing, the Molot 5.45 & 5.56 mags are different bodies, it's not just different followers (though I suppose either body could be modded to work with the different caliber). They are very similar, but there is a distinct curvature difference to them, with the 5.56 mags obviously being a little bit straighter. Also, there have been quite a few pictures floating around of Russian soldiers fighting in Syria using the classic RPK's and RPKS's, so they still have a bit of use left in them.

Also, yep not surprised at all that they'd still keep the good old RPK in some use. They still have a good number of AKM/AKMSs floating around too, cheers.

Jelly Bryce to lay down larger volumes of fire further and a little harder and a little longer than regular rifles. They are probably way ahead of their time since the Marines is just now adopting the IAR.

Ozark Bear Arms Quite a lot like the M1918A2 BAR, both having non-readily changed barrels, limiting both to short bursts. The differences include the full power 30-06 versus intermediate 7.62×39 or 5.45×39 cartridge and the 20rnd box magazine vs varying capacity mags and drums.

Polish army didn’t use any AK-74 including RPK-74. Their 5.45 weapon was developed from AKM by themselves, however Polish didn’t make lmg version of Tantal.

Can someone please tell me how or where to get a proper carry handle e clip or whatever holds the handle reliably on the romanian aes10b rpk, apex sells the carry handle with no hardware, thanks.

On my first AES10B, that clip broke or fell off. I went to the hardware store and bought a replacement...making sure it was a bit thicker and stronger while I was at it. These are Kalashnikovs, don't over think things hehe.

Thanks for watching. Honestly? I don't remember a true semi RPK for as low as $400...not NIB anyway. The lowest I recall the AES10B being was $425 and that was a flash sale and dealer cost; not retail. They were usually in the $600-$700 range when with bipod. A few were sold w/o bipods or as blems for $550 true, cheers.

RPK-74? No. This Vepr 148-10/civil version. A great instance, but not RPK-74. Nevertheless, it is an excellent product.
