By far the most unique SKS model came out of Albania. It has been referred to as the Type 56, Type 561, July 10th Carbine, and just the SKS; but no one really knows for sure its official designation. While based on the Chinese version, it had a spike bayonet, beech wood furniture, longer handguard, redesigned magazine body, and AK47 style cocking handle.
It was originally built at the Umgransh Arsenal from 1967 through 1971, with a second run from 1976 til 1979. Only 17,000-18,000 were ever produced. Most if not all were intended for use by Albanian police and security units. Today very few exist as over half were ordered destroyed by the government in the late 1990s.
In this video we look at one of the surviving Albanian SKS carbines, and compare it with one from Russia and another from China.

Albanian SKS are pretty rare in Italy too! Only 3 or 4 have been imported. Just a quick information: Their rarity is due to the fact that a lot of SKS and AK's have been stolen during the Albanian Civil War in 1997 and then smuggled into Kosovo the next year during the first phase of the Kosovo War. A lot of criminal groups in Kosovo,Albania and the Blakans are still using them. ;) Happy Christmas from Italy!

The Albanian SKS is a rare beast indeed. I unfortunately passed on one to buy an East German variant, at the time the most valuable. The Chinese seemed hell bent to make SKS style rifles in the millions. It was rumored that Albania needed the new rifle as a source of national pride. They were called 1976 rifles in Albania according to an Albanian friend of mine. I think that China sent many parts except for stocks which were made in Albania. Sir your knowledge is very accurate and profound. This is an excellent presentation.

You say '1976 rifle', did you perhaps mean '1956'? Only asking because these were in production long before that year. A friend of mine has an East German SKS but I do not. Maybe one day though? The Albanian is the rarest in terms of number produced and surviving number in the world today; however, in the USA, both the East German and Korean variants are rarer and thus more valuable to collectors. But hey, saying 'rarest' in the title may get a few more views and is still technically correct lol. Thanks much for tunning in & happy holidays.

Misha I’m sure he called it a 1976 rifle because it was a point of national pride in Albania. He described it as having two butt traps. He also said that many Albanians used the AK 47 in a manner of a sub machine gun in the way it was used in China. The SKS was popular as it tended to be more accurate than the AK 47. He spoke of sling attachment of sling by using a piece of spring to attach to the front mount. I hope this helps. I wish you and yours a happy holiday season and best wishes for the new year

It is funny how we in Albania have always called this rifle as "Pushke Dhjeteshe" meaning "Tenner Rifle" because it holds 10 rounds. Too many people had this one during 1997 but nobody knew the name including me. I'm surprised how much knowledge you have about our former political history. Congrats on that! Quick question, did you ever come across an Albanian made AK? I remember during 1997s some people would hold a longer barrel AK47 and they would say this is a Policani Kalashnikov, meaning it was produced in the city of Polican in Albania. *Note - 1997 was a year of turmoil in Albania where government and the army failed and every weapon became available to the public.
@emermbiemer302
@emermbiemer302 4 жыл бұрын
Albin Krasniqi its more accurate than the others , albania expected to do most fighting in mountains so the longer barrel wasn’t an issue and made them more accurate. But they weren’t as reliable as Russian ones

They were all Soviet production cause Poland never built complete SKS, they looked shiny chromed and all cool but last year Polish Military Representative Honor Guard Regiment switched for new ceremonial version of MSBS Grot rifle. The new rifles look kind of weird in ceremonial role and don t even have slings so soldiers have to hold it all the time in hand. Cheers from Poland.

@@kalashloy4179 In my opinion unlikely. First, there were not that many left at this point and there were strictly ceremonial guns. Polish military replaced it with that plastic gun because those were reworked multiple times, beat up rifles and there was a huge problem with finding replacement parts on the open market and with contracting the needed rework to the outside firm to keep it even barely functional.
