Is the mismatch a consequence of different inharmonicity of the two strings?
@littlefishbigmountain4 жыл бұрын
I assume this is because the two strings have different inharmonicity? If you did replace both with the new type as you said, could this still cause the key to sound good played alone yet slightly off compared to the other notes of the piano because even though the inharmonicity is consistent with each key individually it isn’t the same across the whole piano?

Yes, if you replaced both strings with new strings, that note would sound fine, but it wouldn't necessarily match the other strings, but this could be helped to some degree with some voicing to try and match the tone.
@littlefishbigmountain4 жыл бұрын
Interesting! What kind of voicing techniques might be helpful?
@howardpianoind4 жыл бұрын
You may have to needle the hammer to make the tone a little more mellow.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of effect does a softer/more mellow tone have on the inharmonicity and the overtones in general? By making the frequencies less sharp it smoothes out the beating or what? It kinda makes intuitive sense now that you mention it, but I’m trying to figure out what underlying reasoning might explain it
@howardpianoind4 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t actually change the inharmonicity, but it will better match the more muddy tone of the older strings.

Please how do you deal with notes that sounds like springs ?

I’m not sure what you mean by sounding like springs.

Hello sir,, what is the biggest size of piano wire bass?
@howardpianoind3 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the piano. Smaller pianos will tend to have larger diameter bass string to compensate for the shorter length.
@richardbundaon66553 жыл бұрын
What about if I order from you sir,, the important is the wire is bigger then the other bass wire,, about 1m long.. Becouse I did not use for the piano... I use for the other purpose.

1:37, that string just looks like it was put in wrong. It's got the same winding but it's situated too low.
@howardpianoind3 жыл бұрын
It’s not that it was put in wrong, but string wasn’t made to match so the winding isn’t long enough.
@alext88283 жыл бұрын
@@howardpianoind I thought the winding at the lower end of the string might be lower than all the other strings. Did you actually look to see? BTW, I'm binging. I find the videos on harmonics and tuning to be my favorites so far. Excellent videos.
@howardpianoind3 жыл бұрын
It shouldn’t matter as if it was made right this end of the winding should end up in the right place.
@alext88283 жыл бұрын
@@howardpianoind I didn't realize that the lower end of the string came pre-formed and the loop was not put there by the installer. Good catch.

So that string is defective?
@howardpianoind4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it would need to be replaced with a matching string to the other string for that note.

Hi, what about this?:( it's not actually a buzz but a high pitched wah wah wah metalic sound from the string, especially left string in the unison: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oma1lqtqpLWrlac Do you hear it?
@alext88283 жыл бұрын
@@Dajlec I just looked at your video. I think it's the sympathetic vibration of another piano part that is vibrating in sympathy with the string. It also sounds slightly out of tune. I'm no expert, but that's what it sounds like to me. See if something is vibrating somewhere on the piano. Good luck with that.
