What if when 3 consecutive hammers move by the key in the middle? And when two keys are so close together that they rub against each other? How to fix that? 😢
@howardpianoindКүн бұрын
This could be any number of issues, from key bushings to improper action alignment. I would recommend getting an estimate from a local technician. Thanks for watching!

@@howardpianoind Thanks for your kind reply, I fixed it , it was one of the catchers heads fell down with its shank and locked the three hammers together i just picked it up with a tweezer and put the catcher's shank in its place . But i forgot to glue it, it might have fallen during the Piano moving.

Thank you for this instructional video. My question is whether or not squaring and properly distancing the backchecks is the first thing you would do to deal with bobbling hammers. Thank you!
@howardpianoind18 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! The first thing I would check for with loose or bobbling hammers is the flange screw. Hope this helps!

Do new pianos need to have this done to them?
@howardpianoind22 күн бұрын
No, new pianos should not need their key bushings lubricated. They should be ready to perform, with no major regulation issues, on the showroom floor. Thanks for watching!

The problem comes from using something different from hide glue, and treating (voicing, needling) with chemical stuff. Voicing is useless if the hammers are good. Hide glue can be replaced easily. Titebond or CA glue can't be replaced, because it just turn into cement powder, which is difficult to get rid off totally. And changing glue is normally a big mistake. Once you use hide glue, you should use always hide glue. Time consuming, expensive? Not if you do it yourself. It's not rocket science.

question. could i use a deep socket instead of the tuning hammer??
@howardpianoindАй бұрын
The inside of a tuning tip is designed with a star pattern for use with a square pin. This gives 8 possible points for you to place the tuning hammer. You could potentially retrofit a tuning head and tip onto a socket wrench, but it will probably won't be as cost effective as buying a tuning hammer with a #2 tip and may damage the pins. Thanks for watching!

Hello! Why is it that you performed this method on all of the bass tuning pins? In Arthur Reblitz’ book, I understood it as if when a large number of tuning pins are going out of tune fast, it could be an indication of a cracked pinblock, and that pounding the pins deeper could worsen the problem. Thanks so much for the video!
@howardpianoindАй бұрын
Thank you for watching! It is true that it can be an indication of a cracked pin block. However, most institutions such as schools do not want to invest the money into replacing a pin block. This can be a solution for pianos that are past their prime, but not worth replacing to due financial constraints. There are other methods, such as "doping" the pin block with a high-viscosity CA glue that can also provide a solution to the problem of loose tuning pins. Thanks again!

I have tune my piano twice now. The first time that I tuned it it lasted about 3 weeks. However, the second time that I've turned it started going out of town about a day or two after. It didn't help that I had to tune the piano in two sessions, the treble part of the piano one day and the bass of the piano the following day. Thank you for the tips I hope I do a better job next time.

Good Luck & Happy Tuning!
@TomPauls0072 ай бұрын
yup - old trick to loosen corrosion. But - there is a rub, here. By twisting the tuning pin to release and reestablish tension, you reduce the pin to pinblock friction. This results in loosened pins and can cause some exciting problems! Usually, though, the impact is negligible. Just something to keep in mind.

When you are tuning the high treble section depress the damper pedal to lift the dampers from the strings, insert the mute, release the pedal, and tune. Repeat the process when removing the mute to avoid damage to the damper felts. Thanks for watching!
