As far as I'm concerned the soda wasn't your fault. If the recipe just says peels and juice, I don't think most people would bother removing the white pith. They really should specify zest or peels with pith removed.

As a halo vet like myself, I actually like that there is little to no master chief or unsc references, especially because Arturo is just a chef and not a marine. I also like the sight of concept arts, it lets us see what a normal civilian would see in a city we never get to see. Overall, really happy with that choice.
@reizak89662 жыл бұрын
I would've loved if the Halo cookbook was all military rations and canteen food. Put it all on those silver trays and make all the backgrounds look like the spaceship interiors with some having Cortana or blue light effects and voila! An in-theme cookbook. This seems more like a normal cookbook with some very watered down Halo stuff inside. :(

That's exactly what i was thinking when I heard about the book and took a peak inside to see if I should add it to my themed collection of cookbooks...and I was sorely disappointed...then again I'm not a huge Halo fan so it wasn't super hard hitting...just thought it was wasted potential for a good military ration themed couple of recipes..this screams more than anything of stuff you'd find at sci-fi diners than what you'd expect to eat in a sci-fi military.

It's almost like people don't solely eat MREs. Also MREs don't make sense as a cookbook basis, as most of them are premade meals meant to be warmed up.
@reizak89662 жыл бұрын
@@gaymansupreme Canteen food, or "lunchroom food", could be showcased and really elevated though. As something that grew up with tv dinners and the school lunch program, I think that would be a really fun idea. You could still make basically anything, just have mains and sides that compliment each other and look good in that sectioned off way that trays do. You could have different sections where officer meals are, really high end stuff only for high ranking officials. Maybe showcase some cocktails they made by scrounging up what they might have on the ship.

"I didn't know Halo had much food-related content..." It doesn't. There's one time you see "moa wing" flavors on a food stand, (Moa are emu-like animals), and we hear the grunts talk about "food nipples" a bunch, that's pretty much it.

In defense of the lore/world building of the cookbook, I think it is far more effective to flesh out a world like Halo through the eyes of a regular citizen through a cook book. The lack of info about Chief, Cortana or the war makes sense as this is a random person. Someone like you or I is not going to know the specifics of a member of Seal Team 6 for example, so it makes sense chief would only get a passing mention. This book would be a great opportunity to expand on civilian life in some of the planets we see in games or novels, and make the universe feel more lived in (which i think it does). I will say that with the premise, they missed out on a huge opportunity to have some recipes from the authors "favorite restaurant on Reach" that he's trying to recreate from memory after the planet's destruction

Though there isnt a lot of Halo Tie in stuff while I recommend getting it for the recipes alone there isnt really a lot of food in the games. She did the best she could though but again good food.

That intro and outro was amazing! It's kind of baffling that the book is so far removed from the lore. This could have been easily remedied to have Arturo be a chef in a military casfeteria where the Spartans visit. Soldiers have to eat too and it would have given the writer the oppournity for Arturo to interact with or observe Halo characters. The reipes look very good and taste even better and that is what counts.

Gotta say, shame it wasn't based on a Dumb A.I or something from the perspective, but ironically this makes it one of the few pieces of media where we get a peer into Civilian life from the Halo Universe. Which makes it very intresting on its own. But sad that it doesn't make too many references to the larger war. I kinda was hoping to see if it had anything from the Covenant side. As Food Nipple is the most famous food item of Halo besides the Moa Burgers and that would have been a great addition. Especially as the covenant species eat intresting stuff like herbal teas, pickled snakes and their own breads, beasts for meat, an insane number of sauces and raw metal. Just a bigger shame really cause if theme. Still Love the video so much man, I might get this book now after watching it.

Um from the intro it actually makes since that Arturo Bustamante doesn't have anything to do with the military . He's a civilian that works for a company that specialises in the distribution of foods mostly fruits. Aka a shipping company for foods. During his role, he travelled throughout the colonies aboard United Nations Space Command spacecraft in the service of managing corporate contracts and other business. The dude's a salesman for the company. He wouldn't have had any real contact with the military besides seeing some soldiers and naval personal in his travels. So would know about as much as any other civilian. Which is to say not a lot about the military.

I was curious to see how this book turned out. There does seem to be a lot of references to the games and books with the recipes, but it does seem like a missed opportunity to stick to only human-made dishes. They could've stuck to the theme of the book, while still doing this and had the author say that he was on Sanghelios (the Elite planet) for a while with the Swords, and had some Elite cuisine or something. Would've given the book a bit more of that sci-fi flair that it seems to be lacking. I do like how each of the items you picked to cook are connected to the games specifically. Blast Soda is seen in some vending machines across different games, Moa Burgers were first seen in Halo Reach, and Fronk's was featured on the Halo 3 MP map Longshore.
