Yeah, Paul Simmonon (The Clash's bassist) & Mick Jones (The Clash's guitarist) performed bass guitar & lead guitar respectively on the song _Plastic Beach_ for the Gorillaz album _Plastic Beach_ and then officially joined the IRL version of the band for their _Escape to Plastic Beach_ world tour to promote the album. Damon was probably giddy as all hell. Jamie too. Well, no actually. Jamie was quite upset during the Plastic Beach era of Gorillaz and it nearly caused the project to be disbanded forever. Fortunately he and Damon kissed and made up in 2016 and literally the next day, they got to work creating _Humanz._

Reason to them not moving like other concerts it's because, this is inside a studio, on Letterman, they need them to keep most quiet so they can record the audio for streaming and videos like this. If they went insane, audio would sounding like shredding a pineapple using a pc speaker.
@dildonius3 жыл бұрын
And all the seats don't exactly accommodate for movement very well. Plus, its not like everyone was a Gorillaz superfan who came just to see them perform.
@dildonius3 жыл бұрын
God DAMN, _Up On Melancholy Hill_ ALWAYS plays SO MUCH better live than on the album. There's always so much more RAW EMOTION imbued into it, to the point where you're damn near about to start bawling when he sings "when you're close to meeeeee-heeeee-eeeee" in that way that he didn't sing it on the album version...
@pandaaghost10 жыл бұрын
So many hating on the crowd. You can see they enjoy it, just because they aren't moshing or jumping around doesn't mean you dont enjoy it. In a situation like that its annoying to have people jumping around infront of you while trying to listen to music.

I just realized too the absurdity in claiming this audience is "dead" not only because you can't exactly see visual enjoyment in a talk show audience, and because the structure of the set with those tightly packed seats there's no room to do much dancing at all, and because talk show audiences are always totally random and often comprised of tourists most of whom got in for free and thus could very well have no clue who the guest band is or be that into it....even putting all that aside, the main reason it's absolutely ridiculous to bitch about this crowd being """dead""" ffs...... is because FUCKING HELLO, DID YOU HAPPEN TO MISS THE PART WHERE *LITERALLY SEVERAL ROWS OF AUDIENCE MEMBERS RUSHED THE STAGE AT DURING THE CLIMAX OF **_CLINT EASTWOOD,_** TO THE POINT WHERE DAMON STRAIGHT-UP DIDNT HAVE ENOUGH ROOM TO GET BACK TO THE MIC STAND, RE-MIC SAID STAND, AND PERFORM THE CLOSING MELODICA SOLO AS HE WAS SUPPOSED TO - MEANING HE PICKED UP THE MELODICA JUST BEFORE THE SONG BEGAN, PLAYED A 2-SECOND LITTLE RIFFY-RIFF WIFF IT JUST BEFORE THE FURST VURSE, THEN PROCEEDED TO HOLD IT IN HIS HAND FOR THE ENTIRE REST OF THE SONG, ANTICIPATING THE POINT WHERE HE'D GET THROUGH THE LAST OF THE LYRICS AND WOULD NEED TO PUT THE MIC BACK ON THE STAND AND PLAY THE SONG OUT VIA THAT ABSOLUTELY LUBBERLY MELODICA SOLO THAT THE SONG LITERALLY DERIVES ITS NAME FROM....AND THEN SUDDEN THE FIRST LIKE 3, 4, OR 5 ROWS OF THE AUDIENCE SUDDENLY SWARMED HIM, THE BAND, AND THE STAGE TO THE POINT WHERE HE NO LONGER COULD ACCESS THE MIC STAND TO PUT THE MIC BACK ON IT, AND EVEN IF HE **_DID_** MANAGE TO DO IT, HE **_STILL_** DIDNT HAVE THE NECESSARY ELBOW ROOM TO PERFORM A MELODICA SOLO PROPERLY ANYWAY!* This is not something a "dead crowd" does.

Perfect opening song for any concert in the US
@dildonius3 жыл бұрын
Actually, I think the fact that Gorillaz seems to always open with _M1A1_ is absolutely perfect. Nothing gets a crowd fired up better than that opening bit with the "HELLOOOO! IS ANYONE THERE?!" as the bassline & drums slowly build up to this huge crescendo before the beat drops and they start jamming. It's perfect, gets the crowd nice and engaged right off the bat. And the fact that they often follow it up with a super popular song is smart too, gives the crowd something they wanna hear and from there they're so hyped up that you've got em in the palm of your hand. I swear to god Damon Albarn is a musical genius. He just GETS every aspect of it. Both in and out of the recording studio, on and off stage.

I had same question, but realize the amount of 'brought in` production this band requires, no one would have done this for a few songs, maybe Dave or a producer really wanted to see them live and agreed for a long set, pre normal TV taping. There cant be many better recoreded performances if at all due to the extended time and resources of a studio vs stage.
