Absolutely. Its so awful that a single sound can change your mood so much. Dog barks is one of my triggers, and a couple of those can ruin my day. I'm even not taking care of my ears (like high volume on earphones and stuff) because I think it wouldn't be so bad to become a bit deaf.

Misophonia has been such an issue for me. I have to cover my ears or walk out of a room when I hear smacking or chewing. (Literally feel RAGE) It used to be only this but now it's any sound effect: trickling water, someone drinking or pouring a drink, certain foods cooking. Not sure why more sounds are annoying. But it's seriously unbearable. I sleep with white noise, that definitely helps!

Tbh pot makes u focus on other stuff. Embrace the rage bud, I love to yell when people trigger it 🤣 I tell people not to take it seriously but when I’m yelling it’s Bc a panic attack. Ill twitch facial expressions right before I get a massive heatwave down my spine, gotta stand pacing and yelling - it feels really good, the relief it brings, no lie. If I got rid of misophonia, I’d miss the feeling of getting the rage out lol, I love itself, kinda addicted. I remember it starting around 7 too, I’m 30 now. If I get it out 1 or 2 times in a sitting then they make the noise again, the feeling doesn’t come back. Embrace it a little guys.

Misophonia has ruined my life. No matter how much progress I make, all it takes is a coworker who chews with her mouth open or a neighbor whose dog repeatedly barks to make me revert to that primal state. The only solution is poking out my eardrums, but then I’d probably be driven crazy by vibrations. People who don’t suffer from this cannot relate. And our laws are not designed to take our need for quiet into account. If anything, lax nuisance laws have probably contributed to the problem. Every time someone drives buy pounding a heavy subwoofer I feel like I’m in a war zone. And every time I hear someone’s phone on speaker (which is everywhere) it’s like someone’s shoving needles in my brain.

I can totally relate this feeling right now. My apt is right at the busy street and I can hear everything, Having trouble sleeping at night plus I have loud neighbors who get in and out their apt all night and all morning with friends and fights and drunks, I wish i just have lots of money where I can move where I want. I suggest who are bothered by noise cant sleep. Should sleep in a sealed capsule so you cannot hear any sound .

Hey I feel you. At least know you’re not alone. 20% is not a small number of people. Unfortunately, society has given us zero power and we are at the mercy of others unless we resort to revenge tactics, which seem logical given there’s very little recourse and many people are too self-centered to even try and compromise, as in a situation with a neighbor.
@nathanlafontaine3258
@nathanlafontaine3258 Жыл бұрын
@@duchesspodcast Thank you. Unfortunately 20% is not the actual percentage. It’s more like 3%. The 20% comes from surveys that include people who think they have misophonia because they’re annoyed by one or two common irritants like nails on a blackboard. This obscures the real pain and suffering that living with a constant fear of triggers produces.

I'm 12 years old, and my parents might get me some therapy for my severe misophonia, I'm so glad that it helped you out, people who don't have misophoniaa just don't understand how distressing and enraging some common situations are. None of my friends have told me they have misophonia, none of my family members have misophonia, I don't have anyone to talk to and relate to about it, school is hell when people are chewing gum, popping gum, tapping, smacking lips, I recently had a minor panic attack from it, that's what brought its seriousness to my parents' attention. We might even be able to get my school to let me we earplugs in lesson. I Am looking forward to being able to do something about it. This video was brilliant. Thank you for opening my eyes.

I really hate mouth noises to the point of being almost homicidal, but sometimes I wonder if the person making the noise is at fault, I mean there has to be a point where it isn't acceptable to make certain noises like sucking on bones very loud or sounding like you're making out with your food, I feel like people should excuse themselves after the fact or at least say "bear with me for a second please"

To the point where you look at their mouth and wanna punch it, choke em out, then maybe rip the jaw out, yeah same. 🤣step 1 tell them about urself and miso, 2 describe the panic attack it starts and that it’s not personal , 3 relieve all pressure by yelling pacing and throwing fists. Yell exactly what’s bugging you! Then I swear to god you’ll feel real relief when u sit back down and can breath again. If they go back to the noise after I’m almost always fine, it’s even funny sometimes. Some people manage to earn my utter hatred however for their hard S sounds and having too much spit around their lips when they talk. Those people are utter trash, don’t associate. Problem solved. I have this with typing... and work in an office. Listening to other people type drives me insane. I literally sit at my desk blasting music in one ear and plugging the other. It makes getting things done nearly impossible. My employer will not authorize working from home full time (we're on a hybrid schedule and I am on a team with mostly remote workers). I will say, one thing that helps, very, very slightly but it helps is if I make an effort to talk to the person next to me or around me before I start my day. It's almost like putting a person to the noise, very very slightly takes the edge off. unfortunately I cannot talk to everyone around me and don't get the chance to start the day talking to the people near me (coming in at different times, meetings etc) and once the noise is in my head, it doesn't matter if I talk to them or not. It's so hard to deal with this.

I'm in exactly same situation. I'm trying to get one extra day at home but they asking me to try CBT and visit from GP etc and I know neither will help. I find talking to colleagues distracts me from the typing and mouse clicking noises too. It's hard as no one understands what I'm going through.

@@JenFish_1 I agree. I've only felt comfortable sharing this with certain people in my life because I know how it sounds but it is a major problem for me. I agree, talking with people around the office does help a little bit I've noticed. I got approved to use two sided headphones instead of one on days when I'm in the office and that's helped a lot. I can type with two hands again! Good luck!

The Unabomber had all the symptoms of misophonia. He moved to Montana off-the-grid to escape trigger sounds but was still by the sound of overhead jets and his neighbors allowing the forest around to be cut down with loud equipment. He also repeatedly complained in prison about a noisy prisoner above him and the guards playing their radio outside his door. His grievances were ignored and he committed suicide. Misophonia is way more serious than the professionals are letting on. There are children on Reddit announcing their suicides. I have to wonder if those of us trying to bring attention to this disability are not on a government watchlist. They have to know that this thing is killing people. And society is only getting louder.

@@nathanlafontaine3258 I had no idea about the unabombers story. Most of us have the self control of steel to survive in such a noisy world. Oddly cities are easier for me to live because it becomes white noise but not super big cities for sure and I love camping and the morning sounds of birds. So it may explain that we are bothered by often times manufactured noises or non nature related noises other than of terrible chewing

Mine used to be awful growing up. I always had to eat dinner with my stepmom and she would chew so obnoxiously I was filled with rage and wanted to run. It made me eat my food as quick as possible to get away. It was hard to explain but considering my mental health was already downplayed, I knew it wouldn’t have mattered. I wish I knew more about it back then. I used to pinch myself hard to get my anger out and not have an outburst. It was torture but thankfully as an adult I can manage it more than in the past.

Loud noises are what makes me angry. From morning to late at night, people here seems to like loud noises. If is not loud exhaust, motorcycles or loud car speakers, even churches are loud here in Puerto Rico. This is hell, and it won't matter if you uses ear plugs or earphones. Even people without misophonia, will propably end up having it. This is seriously insane, and government and their laws are dumb. I've been here for one and a half year and im going insane. A response would literally save me! So I heard of misophonia for the first time and how sniffling drives someone absolutely crazy. I never once have cared about someone’s sniffle and have never really noticed it. Now literally in the same day I notice every single sniffle and when I hear it, it startles me. Now hearing it draws my attention each time and I had never noticed how many people were sniffling in a classroom and it’s kind of bothering me, though I wouldn’t say it’s making me mad. There is no way I could have just heard about misophonia and got it that day right? Also what should I do before it’s too late and that becomes my normal response?

To me this is more of an obsession about noticing things (OCD related) than misophonia. The response would then be to try and notice it, expose yourself to the fear (because your brain is telling you NOT to notice it) then over time it retrains your brain to be bored of it again.

After hard physical work, for example working in the forest where you hand over 50 tons in one day, the feeling of misophonia disappears. The feeling of mythophony is strongest for me when I'm doing nothing. In general, when you don't do anything physically, you become nervous, you are dissatisfied, and misophonia further increases this. My advice, when you feel anger from misophonia, do heavy physical work.

IMO: this guy effectively sold her snake oil. i'd like to hear what she has to say now, years later. any misophonic knows relaxation helps. she wasn't cured, but just had a new strategy - or maybe two -- things she could have learned online for free.

Hi, I am so happy to have come across your video. Just like you I have been suffering from age of 6ish. I have tired hypnotherapy etc nothing has worked. I get irritated by my daughter drinking water. I feel I am on an edge all the time. I really want to go to the clinic and sort myself out. But I live in London, so not so accessible. After a year of being there , are the exercises still helping you? Are you much better and would recommend it. As I have to take annual leave to come to US. I would be grateful if you could let me know. Thanks Gilda

I now have a sibilance trigger. The worst part is that my ‘triggers’ focus on my wife, which quite frankly, is cruel. So, for example the S words she pronounces because of sibilance (which is no different from others) injects me with a flight/fight response because of the irrational stress/anger response to it. It’s like a surreal internal rage. I have to wear headphones a-lot!! It’s not ideal but thankfully she seems to love me enough to show some understanding! It just makes me feel like a weirdo so I try and overcompensate with hugs etc!! I’m 42 & still scares me. Headphones combined with white noise helps to take the sharpness of the Sssssss

@@teddmented No treatments claim to completely cure misophonia- but there are ways to greatly reduce the corresponding response and anxiety that follows a trigger noise. I’m a living testimony. Chewing sounds used to put me into a rage and now I can even say it’s pretty much close to neutral. Even though people may always have the tendency or predisposition to be triggered by a sound, they can gain control of their responses.
