In 1967 I was an usher at an art house that premiered "Persona" in wide release in the U.S. Okay. The opening sequence was disturbing to some people who got up to leave but I then tried to coax them back to their seats. Andersson, Ullmann and Bergman created a masterpiece time will always remember - to think some walked out on a historic film. I see "Miss Julie" is a different but direct descendant of "Persona"- Liv Ullmann's words of playwright August Strindberg in movie form and I expect part play. Hopefully I'll see it at the TIFF this Friday.

I am one of thoserare people who actually watch movies for the acting and the script lolYou can tell both he and the other actors in this movie have had serious training.Quite refreshing to watch a movie like this and just be enveloped in the characters...

+lorettalynn Davis Thank goodness that somenone out there thinks!!! Colin Farrell is a character actor(not like Leo DiCaprio :) And this movie is a gem. I adore the movies that are minimalistic in design...(like Sunset Limited,Rashomon,etc);it's all on the play,actors who have to give the best to not bore you- It's an up your... to all those clicheistic movies that have tons of CGI. And i also liked the camera movement,composition and music choic,...but the acting-extraordinary from all 3 actors.

There were some parts of this movie that were ultimately beautiful, the script was just pure poetry! However I can why it did not captivate all audiences... while the theme of power and play for power remain a constant in the film, the film at times became random. So unpredictable at times, it didn't make sense to me. For a first watch ( having not seen the play) I was was confused by the character's actions, thoughts aspirations etc.. It almost felt like the two main characters had split or multiply personalities. I did enjoy the movie though and I feel the actors done a superb job!

very emotionally charged. The movie lures you in because of interesting plot BUT you soon find out both characters are psychotic No I mean for real. Dont waste your time . If you are into classic period dramas you will be hugely disappointed .

No disrespect, but Margaret and her Irish man captured the proper mood of this style of elicit romance superbly on Boardwalk Empire. If you know the first three seasons of BE, you'll know how those two characters smouldered beautifully. These two? Though they're good actors, not so much - no chemistry between Colin and Jessica at ALL.

Films of plays are usually terrible. Keep them closed in; they seem claustrophobic and static; open them out, they seem dispersed and windy. Plays are not the same as movies, at all. Better to download and watch a good filmed stage production. You can at last access a little of the power that you get when you're stuck in a room watching real actors.

I just saw this movie..Two years ago I saw the 1999 version and I was quit desapointed.Today,I saw this version and I was shocked about the fact how the high and low classes where and especially about how John(Collin Farel) played with Julia's(Jessica Castain) mind and how he succeed to make her kill herself.. Generally a very very good movie.A bit boring at the first 30 min but the rest was touching,depressing and...I don't know what else.. Oooh and guys..If anyone knows the soundtrack of the trailer please write it down..

Guys, I'm just curious. Why is it nowadays movies often to cross their character's and actor's nationalities? Americans playing Brits characters and Brits playing American characters

Yes, it has always been the case. The difference now is that actors aren't being asked as often to speak in a dialect that is not there own. The weight of what Collin Farrell could bring to this role would have probably been a bit undermined had he spoken with another accent. Remember, this is just pretend, and there is a thing called the suspension of disbelief. Enter into the world that the playwright or director has created and soar within that world.
