As a fellow Catholic high school theatre student I am always impressed by how well you censor these sensual scenes while still convening the goal of the scene and information the audience gets from the scene.

I’m also Catholic and a theatre nerd. But I’ve gotta disagree with you on the censorship thing. I think it’s kinda the worst of all worlds. It muddles the plot of the show and sanitizes the historical period it represents. I don’t think that benefits the audience. And it traffics in innuendo and kinda glamorizes what was going on-especially as the critique of American involvement in Vietnam is undermined by the decision to censor out the worst bits about what we did there. I know it’s gonna sound cringey, but part of me feels like that’s bringing scandal on the Church. I’m all for a jarring, upsetting, uncensored production of Miss Saigon that pulls no punches and is performed by a secular theatre company. It’s a good show and it has something powerful to say about ethics and morality and I’d encourage mature adults to go see it. And I’m all for family friendly theatre at Catholic schools. These kids are phenomenal performers and I’m a big fan of a lot of the shows they’ve put on KZbin. But if you’re performing a show as a Catholic organization, I don’t think Miss Saigon is a good choice. There are tons of great shows that are a lot less…delicate than Miss Saigon. And I think shows with safer, less disturbing themes are better when you’re involving children or associating the production with the Church.

Well, it's actually the version of Miss Saigon made for high schools in general, not just Christian ones ("Miss Saigon: High School Edition"). I don't think many high schools would allow the original racy lyrics and dancing!

Watch their version of 2017/18? Les mis master of the house…that’s a christian version
@BCE429062 жыл бұрын
@@leefriedman3067 I've seen it. I'd make a contention that they should have left some of the language in Master of the House. I'm an evangelical Christian, so I'll explain. Les Miserables is a Christian story, with strong Christian themes throughout the story. The Therdineir's are representing atheists in the show. For atheists, morality is relative, therefore the behavior of the characters as written portrays that worldview perfectly. In context, their use of vulgar language and poor behavior, in that context is quite accurate.

Elizabeth Cortez This is about the Vietnam War, starting right before the Fall of Saigon when Nixon pulled all U.S. troops during Vietnamization. The musical then progresses to about 3 years after. Look a synopsis online for the plot.
@urthtvbyjess4 жыл бұрын
@@publius8945 Yes, but the thing is that it's less immersive due to the fact that it's extremely censored and that the cast of the Vietnamese characters aren't of matching race or ethnicity which is fundamental for Miss Saigon. After all, the show's about a Vietnamese Bargirl/Prostitute and due to the factors I have explained, it makes it feel less like Vietnam and it's hard for the audience to think of it and miss a lot of points.

Okay... I must be having Deja Vu! I just came from watching The Hunchback of Notre Dame. This is a big jump from 1482 to the 1970's. First, look I recognized them from THOND. If only Kylier was the main male character then you could say Frollo finally got his Esmerelda. Or the guy who played Quasimodo could have gotten Esmerelda.
