Miss Universe 2022 (Top 16) Interview Reaction!

Here are my thoughts on the 1st Miss Universe interviews that were released to the public via / missuniverse . The Miss Universe Organization only released interviews from the top 16 semi-finalists. This is the first time we're able to take a look into the closed door interviews and have a better understanding of what the judges saw.

This didn't prove that they made the right selection because he didn't released all the videos for comparison. Until then, showing only 1/5 of the interviews reinforces the belief that he is hiding something and that the pageant is rigged.

@@mannymoretti5196 with that many contestants there’s probably some interviews that would be embarrassing to release publicly. People can be so cruel online so I feel like it makes sense to release the ones that scored the best to protect contestants who didn’t have their best interview.

@@DaniWalker Well, if he wants transparency as what he is claiming, then he should; otherwise, he just made the result more questionable by releasing some but not the others. Is he hiding something? If he doesn't want drama, he shouldn't have just released these 16 interviews just for him to justify that these 16 were the best but won't allow us to have a comparison to the other candidates that he eliminated. The same drama that he is creating by arranging a Homecoming of the winner in the country which she didn't represent to appease those who were not happy about the elimination of the representative of that country. Why won't the winner have a homecoming parade in her own country? Because she doesn't get much support from her country, and so they pander to another country to keep their relevance in that particular region because someone was made a sacrificial lamb to in order to not anger the other countries in that region for not making the cut which is ridiculous.

She get extra points for wearing her own design and handiwork. Not from some male designer. Clothes are the outward manifestation of freedom and empowerment of a transformational leader. Anne said enough of the men, the pageant will be by women for women. Top 2 are both fashion designers.

This is like a huge slap on these people’s faces because all these ladies deserved to be in the top 16. And also rumor has it they will now release remaining girls. The actually reinforced the doubts of the doubter because he wouldn't show the other videos for comparison. Call it rude but I'm calling it as it is, he is a " Lady Boy" and I don't care about your political correctness.

I'm soo glad that you brought up and explained the timer/ buzzer. Cause people kept complaining about r'bonney going over her time and saying that she cheated the competition by going overtime. It really irritated me having to explain it to them.

It's a super common question that I get from clients as well. As long as an org. doesn't explicitly state that you will lose points if you speak beyond a buzzer, (which is most of them) then you won't lose points. It's nothing to stress about in a competition. I judged for Earth, USA, RIM, International and others, not once was I instructed to deduct points for going over time in interview or during on-stage question. For timed speech competitions, I've been instructed that I'm allowed to deduct points if a contestant blatantly ignores the time limit, but I'm not required to do so. It's up to personal discretion.

Just a correction, Wendy Fitzwilliam was Miss Universe 1998 who won in Hawaii. 1994 was Sushmita Sen of India who won in the Philippines. 🙂

These interviews were all so impressive to me. I think the one that blew me away the most was Trinidad and Tobago. She captivated me from start to finish. These women are just inspiring!! So glad they shared these interviews, not just so we had a better insight as to the Top 16 results, but just so we could hear stories, insight, and wisdom from these inspiring women!!! I'm so glad they released the Top 16 closed door interviews this year coz it makes the selection committees choices so much more transparent. They need to continue doing this cause it leaves little to the imagination when it comes to judging as interview is 60% of your overall score so it's the most important facet of competition. Even though all the top 16 had good interviews it was clear to me why R’Bonney won. She was so charismatic, charming, concise and confident. Mix that with her strong prelims and finals performances and there’s no doubt in my mind why she was crowned Miss Universe.

YES! Dani, you are probably the only pageant page that had Miss Trinidad and Tobago, Tya-Jané Ramey on your radar, while others completely ignored her. A number of fans are still questioning why she placed in the top 16 and are going far as claiming "favortism" because Wendy Fitzwilliams was one of eight judges. I can tell you that Tya-Jané is the best Miss Universe T&T representative since Kenisha Thom in 2006. All of the other queens after Kenisha (good queens) lacked the X factor, but not Tya-Jané. It makes perfect sense as to why she made the cut. We Trinbagonians are so proud of her because she represented herself and all of our country very well. She also ended a 16/17 year drought for us and set the standard of beauty queens that must represent T&T at Miss Universe moving forward. Thank you, Dani, for being objective and honest. I'm no pageant expert, but I know a contender when I see one. Something I heard from the grapevine is that she only had one dress for preliminaries and finals. I know for a fact that a second dress could have given her that extra boost to potentially crack the top 5. Listen, she still did her best and made us all proud. Dani, I suggested that the Miss Universe T&T organization Crownsandsashes reach out to you for pageant advice moving forward. Also, Tya-Jané was born in 1997, and Wendy Fitzwilliams won Miss Universe in 1998, lol. Well done on your Miss Universe 2022 commentary. 👏 👏 👏

I was also the first to graduate in my family. It is extremely difficult because you do not have a precedent to follow and have to work it out for yourself. Failure is not in my vocabulary, so I asked every time I was unsure about something. Since graduating, I have worked on four continents and traveled the world. Thank you for sharing your perspective, Dani! Do you know offhand whether the interviews were scheduled randomly or alphabetical? I tried to put myself in the judge’s seat and interviewing 80+ ladies all in one day is not easy! With 4 minutes each, that would be 15 ladies per hour or roughly 5-6 hours! Hopefully the judges had a break or two! All top 16 interviews released were impressive (personally loved South Africa, Haiti, Canada, Spain, USA.)

They go in alphabetical order. I once judged an international pageant and I was on the interview panel for 4 age divisions. We interviewed from around 8am-7pm. There were sooo many ladies. You had to also account for timing between ladies, since there was only one panel of us. We didn't have time for dinner. We had to take bites between the time a contestant left the room, and before the next one entered. Sometimes we were still chewing when they walked in. I felt so bad, but it was the only way we could stay on schedule for the day.

transparency in releasing only the top 16? I disagree. If the lady boy wants to dispel the doubts from the people who thinks that he rigged the pageant , he should have released all the interviews. This makes people question it more.

@@mannymoretti5196 of course we all have a choice on how we interpret what we see, notwithstanding the intentions of others. We can choose to se a glass of water as half full or half empty. In this case I am applauding MU org’s effort to release all closed door interviews, which has never been done before. Everyone who views the interviews still have the right to judge what they observe. But at the end of the day we can choose to see the beauty in every candidate and even disappointing experiences. I look forward to finding that in every contestant.

Someone usually cries, and typically more than one bombs the interview. I can say this from experience judges for the past several years. There's usually wayyyyy more interviews that need improvement, than there are interviews that blow you away.

I still don't get convinced until the Lady Boy releases all the interviews for us to compare. I still believe that some candidates like Miss Cortessi speaks with more power and relatability than most of these candidates that made the top 16. Releasing only the top 16 strengthens my belief that the Lady Boy rigged thus pageant and he should be held accountable.
