Poor Scheana, if she even breathes the other mean girls on VDPR attack her for some of the most ridiculous things like "uh, it's like you took my air and didn't want me to breathe.." You are done of the Best Miss USA's that have represented the Pageant. I have watched Miss USA this year and definitely dissatisfied with Male Host Not having final 5 and No 1st runner up and leaving 4 girls on stage with nothing. Rushed crowning no suspense and Winner totally no preparation for Miss Universe. Miss USA should be held mid to late Summer plus just Miss USA should be 2022. They should have Made ASA 2020/2021. This pageant was not up to usual standards as in past.

I literally 100% had the same comments about the pageant. You should co host
@kylerobin67182 жыл бұрын
Love ya Shandi, you're awesome. I agree with your comments. My suggestions: I want there to be more judges and have the highest and lowest scores discarded (as in the past); We didn't get to know the semifinalists (i.e., Miss Louisiana has family ties to the Choctaw tribe (missed opportunity for the pageant to connect the location with some of the diversity education with an actual contestant and hear her thoughts)); I want there to be a Miss Congeniality (kindness matters); put Miss Congeniality into the top 16 (not a fan vote). I didn't think the questions had the same degree of difficulty (some were harder than others); was Jah Rule the best they could get? (the forced dancing on stage lacked elegance, to me); they added placements because the US never understood what the runner up stuff means (we pageant fans, do, though). I don't like that there are women standing there that won't place (too Miss America like) when crowing is announced; Of 51 people, there could've been a 5th place (or 4th RU). But I loved the top 2 and thought they stood out. Mic drop when Elle answered that question (it was allllll over). See you on the channel in two weeks after Universe.
@mimzyLassiter2 жыл бұрын
It’s a pretty BLANKET statement to assume the US doesn’t know the difference between runners up and placement 🙄. We most certainly do. The US invented this pageant. There are thousands and thousands and thousands of pageant fans in the US. I, as a former pageant girl whose won and placed in pageants for years is among those “US” fans. It’s quite an arrogant statement to assume otherwise @KyleRobin.

Per usual, Shandi is on point with all the commentary. Loved the opening number (including the outfits), LOVED Zuri Hall (so gorgeous and was really natural with the hosting), hated the male cohost (so awkward and robotic he was) and didn't like the camera movements (too choppy and unprofessional). Overall I give it a B+. It was still a solid first edition under the new leadership of Crystle Stewart, for whom I am stoked that she's now the national director/President of the Miss USA Organization. I can tell that she gets it and will really take the pageant into a new, modern era. I hope she continues to get the support she needs going forward. p.s. anyone knows why Shandi doesn't do these recaps with Susie Castillo (Miss USA 2003) anymore? Noticed this with the recap for the last Miss Universe edition and now this. If anyone knows why please let me know.

Shandi, I agree with most of your commentary; however, Asya put the crown on Miss USA 2021 beautiful locks, she did not plop the crown on the winner's head. Shandi, I was so disappointed in Kansas; her stage presence was unwelcoming, she is so beautiful, and her gown was the most beautiful. I expected Miss Kansas to be in the top five.
@texas41972 жыл бұрын
Used to watch every Miss USA and Miss Universe (as well as Miss America) pageant when I was younger. Grew up and got busy and became a less regular watcher. However, I came across this highly entertaining recap of the 2021 Miss USA pageant. I agree completely with Shandi that the announcement of the Top 4 places was rushed, and I have to also agree that having more than one woman standing on stage when Miss USA is announced is distracting and ineffective for those watching at home. I know the difference between Miss USA and Miss America, but let me use the Miss America pageant as an example of what I mean. I remember that when the Miss America pageant started out on television, they had 5 finalists and then announced the four runners-up and the winner? I'm from Texas, so I know for certain that that was the practice when Phyllis George became Miss America in 1970. Then, sometime later, the Miss America pageant went to the practice of keeping all of the Top 10 on stage and announcing the four runners up and then Miss America. This meant that Miss America and the five unplaced women were up front for the winner's announcement. This removed the high drama interaction between the two women who would in a few seconds be the first runner up and the new Miss America. For all the years that they used the second format, I remember having a very hard time remembering what each young woman had done in the previous hour. When the 2nd runner up was announced, I'd think "Did she sing? Or was she the one who twirled flaming batons?" Or when the 4th runner up was announced, I wondered "Is that the one that royally messed up her answer to the final question?" When the winner was announced, with all those thoughts running around in my head, I always had trouble remembering what made the young woman special because my attention was divided between her and the five others who did not place at all. I'm pretty sure that the Miss America pageant returned to 5 finalists and counting down to the winner after years of the 10 women at a time method, and it was much easier to remember what the winner had done because your attention was focused on five women rather than 10 and in the final two minutes on two women. I know this spends a lot of time discussing the Miss America example, and I am aware that the two pageants are very different and what one does is not necessarily copied by the other. But the point is this: How did the Miss USA pageant runners fail to vet viewers and contestants from previous years about the pros and cons of having more women on stage than places they were going to announce? There were examples where that practice been tried by other pageants, and I'm sure people of my age would have been glad to comment on this if asked. Or they could have surveyed former pageant contestants about their thoughts before they went with the current method of announcing the winner..
@rayj50912 жыл бұрын
It was rushed because the pageant went over time, the show went past two hours.... I was wondering how they would do after the two hours was over.... Also I was wondering what the Grinch who stole Miss America (Gretchen) was thinking as well...... After she tried to rip you apart for your view and end up making herself a FOOL..... I was imagining her falling down with heart attack watching the opening number.

Crystle is doing something right...bringing back the state costumes, have the semi-finalists ALL compete in swimsuit and gowns. I think more work and format changes need to be done for the final round. They should just do what Miss Teen USA is doing, narrow down to a top 5, or a top 7 and announce the winner and 4 runner ups like Miss World used to do.

I agree: runner-up I stead of "place", girls intro themselves and hear their voice, the walk up to the microphone-reminiscent of the early 70's, and the girl's own EG selection. I prefer the faster pace of the runner ups and winner. I always look to 1980 as the standard. Bob did his announcing pace and that Biloxi crowd was wild. Watch it and let know your thoughts. It is sad to me as a long time pageant fan to say since 2004, USA has had only four top placements: Tara, Olivia C, Nia, and Olivia J at MU.

I agree with Shandi. I really missed aspects of the former format. In the end, if the candidates made the top 8, they shouldn’t just be left on the stage without a placement. They should keep a top 5, not a top 8. If there is a top 8, then why not introduce more questions at that point to narrow the top 8 to maybe then the top 4. If it ain’t broke, don’t try to fix it. I think the candidates not introducing themselves dumb downs them. Let them speak for themselves. To me, there should be every opportunity for the audience and especially the judges to get to know the candidates.

For winning the title nearly 20 years ago (2004 & you gave your title up in my hometown of Baltimore plus nothing against Jennifer but you should have won Miss Universe) and having children, you look A-MA-ZING!!! B. I think you should either host and/or be a correspondent to the pageants. Girl, you know your stuff!! C. Great recap/review. You look stunning. Just an observation...I am very pleased with the winner, she deserves it, and she will be fantastic at Miss Universe. However, I am disappointed in the hairdo she had. It wasn't exactly Asya's fault the pictures of the coronation will look silly. There wasn't much that could have been done. And I'm disappointed, because Elle said she prepped for Miss Universe, not Miss USA, so she knew she had a high chance of being crowned the winner and didn't learn from Miss Kentucky USA's crowning moment. It was a bit better then, but it still looks awkward. I hope she is advised to have a more appropriate hairdo for the big Miss Universe crown in case she wins... Which I hope she does. Second, you are not a former Miss USA 2004. You are the only one that will ever be Miss USA 2004. In my book, you are still Miss USA, it's just that your reign took place a while back, that's all. Lol 😘
