I remember when the song first came out, I think it was in the 50s or early 60s, and it was on a two-record set by the Harry Simeone Chorale. I just thought it was the most beautiful song for Christmas, and I knew every single song on both of those records by heart and still do! He is the reason for the season.... the white building you see at the end in the background is where they live and study, the PALAIS AUGARTEN in the second district of vienna , AU being a meadow usually close to water and a GARTEN is of course a garde. the palais is situated close to the danube and the grounds in early times used to be meadows close to the river before it was regulated and controlled.

Probably my favorite thing about this song is its moral: The most important thing you can give to someone is to give them yourself. That's what God did on Christmas, and it's what He wants us to do as well (by living for Him and doing His will). In this case, the drummer boy gave himself by doing what he does best.
