MISSED TRAINS AND TRAVEL DELAYS TO PRAGUE (do not make this mistake)

It finally happened. We missed our connecting train on our way from Budapest to Prague! It had to happen sooner or later, but it's never fun either way. European travel by train is generally one of our favorite things! After fighting the massive train delays and missed trains, we finally arrive in our next country, Czechia! Our first impressions of the capital Prague are VERY good! This city feels like a massive movie set, it's too perfect! Excited for our next day here!

All trains from Budapest are delayed - more or less (they prides themselves on it) - this is a first thing U learn about Hungary (and best way to learn it is from distance - like from some other country).... :D

Train travel is the best - it allows you to just slow down and enjoy the view. Bonus, you saved so much on your carbon footprint by avoiding yet another short-haul flight. Short-haul flights between European cities have become so common over the last few decades with the super low cost carriers. However, good on Europe because that apparently will start to change. In the hopes of shrinking the region’s carbon output, governments across the European Union are starting to impose bans on short-haul flights, yay!! France is apparently leading the way when this past spring it became the world’s first major economy to enact a nationwide ban on short-haul domestic flights for routes where train journeys of two and a half hours or less exist as an alternative. Europe has a brilliant train infrastructure so it's easy to think beyond the quick and easy. Prague is on our bucket list - enjoy - we look forward to seeing more! It's not a bad luck, it's standard here, half of country is under construction and for some reason, they do it everything in summer, so you should be lucky that your train actually arrived. As a experienced Czech, I never expect that I will catch next train when there is only 3 minutes for change by timetible. But one good thing abou tour train system is that some trains can wait for your train if it's like max 10 minutes, but not when you are using some international trains, this works only with commuter trains. If you plan to do more train traveling, I really recommend visit Czechia before or after july and august, some train tracks are closed completely due to constructions.

My husband, 3 kids and, myself took the train from Paris to London. However, the ticket agents in Paris were on strike and we stood in a line for 6 hours. We missed 2 trains. Thank goodness I packed snacks that we could eat. It was such a long day. Glad you made it. Prague is going to be beautiful.

I love Prague. We were there 3 years ago and had a great time. We stood where you are in front of the clock. Go see the giant gorilla sculpture. Not sure it's YT compliant but it's huge and it's funny. I know you don't drink alcohol but check out the Ice Bar if you get a chance. Maybe they have something non-alcoholic for you, but it's definitely worth a stop. Have Fun!

If you're taking trains now, after Prague consider going to Regensburg next and then from there to Munich, Saltzburg, Frankfurt, Cologne, Brussels, and Amsterdam. Easy cheap trains between all of those places. Then out of Amsterday fly to some where else.

I did Prague in December. It’s amazing and the people so friendly. Make sure to walk the bridge and read all the statue signs. When you are at the astronomical clock, face the restaurants. The one on the left was amazing. Can’t remember the name. The bakery near there was amazing and had funny pastry designs. Have another chimney cake , but put Nutella inside. To die for ! Enjoy !

Im so sorry you had such a hard travel day, it makes you more exhausted not only taking way longer than you planned but the waiting about tires you out! Trains in Hungary are often way off. I sat one time on the edge of Budapest for 35 mins just waiting while some one eventually said they could go through. A good stop would have been to Brno before Prague. If you book trains locally they can be dirt cheap. (not through international web sites, but local Hungary only or direct at the station window) In Prague eat at Bila Krava for great steak and Provencal food. Pork shank is a must to try, Pivovar U Tří růží for a beer place on tap with locals. Positive must is a day trip to Ceske Krumlov.
