succession = process by which an ecosystem changes over time. process = colonisation by the pioneer species, changes the abiotic conditions of the ecosystem through their death and decomposition - less hostile for other species - form a thin layer of humus (soil) environment more suitable for other species - compeititon occurs - outcompete previous species increases biodiversity continues until eventually a stable final climax community is formed conservation - need to balance the needs for human resources and species richness, can be done through managing succession, preventing succession from reach climax community so it continues until eventually two different species next to each other - e.g : coppicing SORRY this is just a blurt of what i learnt haha
