A bit more context from follow-up quests: - This is the first time she's employed those dark magics. Nobody is sure what they are or where she got them from. - They agree that whatever her goal is, she no longer needs the Horde to achieve it. - The Horde and Alliance are turning their attention to N'Zoth. Lor'themar sent his Farstriders after Sylvanas and Nathanos but doubts they'll find them. - Sylvanas loyalists meet up with her at Windrunner Spire. She reveals that she made a deal with Azshara, but she's just basically biding her time until N'Zoth and the Horde and Alliance kill each other, and says even N'Zoth will serve death in the end. - Lilian Voss seems interested in meeting with Calia Menethil and Derek Proudmoore, likely concerning the future of the Forsaken.

Wait, really? She made a deal with Azshara? That hard confirms Azshara want(ed) to directly usurp Nzoth then, huh. Interesting stuff.

Dude, she's been using dark magics since WC3. Most of her abilities were dark magic. She used them more freely at the beginning of BoA to raise the dead and when using her banshee form. Don't know why people think she's suddenly gotten these powers. About the only thing different is they appear to have gotten stronger as she's never outright shadowblasted something before.
@prinstyrio05 жыл бұрын
@@Servellion I think it's more that these dark powers are different and more potent. We've seen her use powers to poison her arrows and raise the dead, but she's never been much of a sorcerer or caster. That said it seems odd it was brought up now when the powers she used during the BfA cinematic is a lot alike, but whatever, so I'm half agreeing with you but it seems they're going the route of "She's more than just a ranger with necromantic powers thanks to Arthas/Lich King now". Either way on a different topic, I'm excited to see more about these powers of death and who or what might be steering both Azshara and Sylvanas, who apparently got Bwonsamdi and Helya following them too, and whether Lich King Bolvar knows about them, had contact or plans to join. It does seem like there's a third party entering the galactic war whilst Light and Void are busy with eachother, perhaps its to set up for Light and Void to team up and realize the two forces needs to co-exist since death means nothingness and so far even the Void relies on life to exist, which seems what Sylvanas refers to, that everyone standing there will one day die and then all these conflicts, honor, ideals and dreams means nothing. About Calia and Derek, it seems obvious Calia will take over, but it'd be epic if Derek stood up to help and lead the Forsaken as well, with their dynamic of normal and light forsaken. There's also some interesting, perhaps even romantic/poet, implication there of a new Queen and King of Lordaeron, but a flip, seeing as it was likely Arthas would've married Jaina who was also a Proudmoore, so in the end the former of people of Lordaeron gets their royal union of a Menethil and Proudmoore to lead them into their future.

The nice thing about this cinematic is that it finally shows us what Blizz has told us often: Saurfang is SMART. He's a veteran military commander. If I recall right, Blizz is on-record that 'you' are Saurfang in Warcraft 3's orc campaign, much like how 'you' were Orgrim in Warcraft 1's orc campaign. So, what would a smart person do? He would play Sylvanas to get the result he wants. He knows she's a sadist, so he plays on that to get her to agree to a mak'gora, which gets him some much-needed face time without any interruptions. He knows that, for some reason, people expressing their faith in hope really sets her off, and that bringing up her failures REALLY sets her off. So he keeps hitting that button once she gives him an opening to do so. And he keeps hitting that button, until she loses her temper and outs herself. At that point, it's immaterial who wins the mak'gora, and they both know it. So she doubles down on it, figuring if she's going to be ousted she's going to make sure everyone knows exactly what she's thought of them all this time. And he gets his warrior's death, having saved the Horde from an omnicidal tyrant and bought Azeroth some breathing room before the next crisis. Yeah, he knew how the fight was going to turn out, because he knew exactly how to get what he wanted from Sylvanas, having seen her lose her temper multiple times and having plenty of evidence of what sets her off.

@SilverArrowsMP5 жыл бұрын
@Austin Harris Because there is no "Sylvanas" faction. Sylvanas never really cared about the Horde, obviously, and most people who followed Sylvanas I assume (can only speak in certainty for myself) wanted to follow her because it was her, not because she was or wasn't Horde. I don't get why people try to inject morals into a video game. When I started WoW, I chose Horde because they were the "baddies" so to speak. I wanted my role-playing experience to be with the villains. So I never once thought "oh, I need to insert logic and my real world values into a fantasy video game. I need to write off Sylvanas because she is evil." She is a damn good villain, and that was what I wanted from my WoW experience, as likely did the people who chose to follow her. They probably didn't want to be with the "My Honor hold-hands-and-sing-Kumbaya with the Alliance" Horde. As good as Legion was as an expansion, I still hated the whole Horde-Alliance team-up thing. I want the war, the conflict, the "good vs evil" as it were. Not everyone takes video games so seriously... definitely not to the point of kneeling and crying lol. The fact someone can be that invested in a video game frankly is terrifying.

SilverArrowsMP don’t be ridiculous. You’ve never been invested in a story before? World of Warcraft is a story at its core. It lives in the largest part through the vehicle of the video game, but there are dozens of novels, graphic novels, comics, etc. that the Warcraft world exists in, and the narrative writers have brought the story to life within the game. Don’t degrade people who have become invested in a story because part of that story takes place within a video game, that is so shallow. Human beings are wired to involve themselves in story.

"Nothing lasts" - "Ours is a cycle of hatred..." The Banshee Queen is an Anti-Hero, she is not a Thrall. She is not a Saurfang. She is someone who has seen death and met Death. Thrice she has died but only twice did she enter the Shadowlands. "If you could see yourselves as I see you" She is implying more but she knows that they do not understand the connotation, so she makes it antagonizing. Death itself is the only way to stop the Void. We see this in several places throughout lore. The void does not like absolutes. Death is the absolute. It is why the Burning Legion set out to snuff the life from the universe, so the Void could not corrupt it. It is why the void energies do not corrupt the undead as it does the living. Sylvanas is by no means a "good guy" but she is not the villain. Though she can not trust anyone, for everyone who she does ends up betraying her. "You have the luxury of underestimating death..." Sylvanas sees the only power to stop and bring the world into peace is to use decay. Death."In the end, Death claims us all"

Question is will Calia Menethil lead the forsaken as light forsaken, who will be the next warchief? Hoping for Baine that will be able to mend ties with the night elves. Sylvanas is not in league with the void lords but a different faction, faction of death and shadowlands, remember the three windrunner sisters story when the void called for one of the sister to kill Sylvanas, that the voids true enemy is death?

In the end its gonna be Sylvanas that unites the Azeroth. I think her goal is not to ''kill hope'' but to drive both sides to theire knees so that they are forced to unite just to survive. Sylvanas is waay too smart to sucumb to anger and just burst out like that unless she has a reason.

I wonder if Sylvanas is so perfect calculated, then i wonder what such black power she used on him, cause it did more than damage, or she could just put the dagger from chest 4:04 and kill him. If Sylvanas didnt used the power, she will have died. What I see, are references to the WrathGate, whole scene, the way doors opening, slowly opening, Sylvanas/Lich King walks out. "you speak of justice etc/traitor leading traitors". I count Saurfang as Dranosh and Bolvar. Before Saurfang did first strike, he quoted "Let it be finished" as Dranosh said too... And got slayed by LichKing's sword and drained the soul of him, so I think the power is the same thing. And i think Saurfang will became a new boss later somewhow... These are my opinions and decisions

She misspoke, realized it and figured it didn't really matter. Her use for the horde is no longer needed. She is powerful enough now to set her real plans into motion, whatever they might be. My guess is that death somehow makes her more powerful, and there has been a lot of it during BfA. That probably was her intent all along. To cause death.

If Sylvannas' choice to push the line of "You are all nothing" was intentional, it is because she now knows that the Horde is truly united now. The Horde has never been more united than it is right now. The Horde will now last against whatever greater threat comes next because they are fully united. "The Horde is nothing", "You are all nothing", and "Nothing lasts".

As Saurfang begins his final monologue, Sylvanas is smirking. As he keeps beating at her with all her failures - to cause all the death she wanted - her smirk fades into an angry snarl. She was right on the edge, then out of nowhere Saurfang struck her with a holy light weapon. #MassivelyTriggered

The Forsaken were rejected by everyone and the Horde welcomed them. Saying the Horde is nothing is particularly hard for them. If you sided with Sylvanas before there is another cinematic that explains her plan. I can't wait to see what comes next.

Sylvanas went along with it because she can't have both armies, alliance and horde spent so fast in that war when there is the war against Nzoth coming, after Nzoth is dead everyone else can be killed by her so they can fight in the shadowlands.

I don't think sylvanas had it planned. You can see that she says it right after being hurt by the light of the sword, can we say that the light "forced" her to tell the truth for a second? And the speech she gives, she has already been unmasked anyway. What does she care? It is best to run away

Agreed! Whatever the people say, I love the BfA!
@chrisevangelow81385 жыл бұрын
Just remember that Sylvanas doesn't necessarily use void energy/magic, the marks and magic she uses is all death magic. Keep in mind that from the Windrunner comic the voidlords whisper to Alleria that Sylvanas is death and that Sylvanas is the "Enemy". Sylvanas even calls Alleria a monster for the void magic she uses. Also remember that Sylvanas still has a bargain with Helya, a being tied to the Shadowlands, and Helya is not dead she's still active. So don't think that because Sylvanas is void corrupted(or has a void influence) because of her outbursts and how she is acting, Sylvanas has a goal that no one is aware about at the moment and she wants to keep it that way so she can ultimately get what she wants. Everything is stacked in her favor from her perspective this is how she wants things to go and her motives might not be as sinister as everyone makes it out to be so just have that in mind. It's also worth taking a look at the Sylvanas Loyalist epilogue cinematic because her and Azshara have plans for what is going to happen and she says that even N'zoth will soon serve death. Just some food for thought ;P

For me, I think that part where Sylvanas says the Horde is nothing... I don't think that's intentional... in a way. I think she wanted that to happen later, but her rage and hatred was fueled to such a threshold by Saurfang, which as you mentioned is most likely his intention in the first place, that she snapped out of her usual calculative side for just a moment because of the raw emotions Saurfang's taunting brought to her. You can see how she paused when she realized she said it and knowing that there's no coming back, she just continued and in turn, snapped out of the Horde. Hope everyone realizes that snapping her out of that calculating side, arguably her most deadly, is a weakness. But again, this is coming from a newbie WoW lore fan who became one when BFA was released with its awesome intro cinematic, and from there started his way back to learn much of the lore. I'm open to be corrected peeps. Lok'tar Ogar, Varok Saurfang. This member of the Alliance recognizes your honor, and of the Horde in subsequent.
@swordmonkey66355 жыл бұрын
No. Saurfang wasn't egging her on to make her lose her temper. He wanted to take her out as fast as possible (the honorable thing), but he was outmatched. The swords splitting was a happy surprise for Saurfang and allowed him to slip past her guard. But he knew it wouldn't work a second time and went all in at the end before he got blapped. I wanted Sylvanas to win, but not to skate away right afterward. She's all cool and collected when you meet her later in the quest. She's the ultimate pragmatist and used the Horde when it suited her agenda (and she never made a secret about it).
@MissildineOnline5 жыл бұрын
Saurfang was absolutely egging her on. He knew he stood no chance. He just wanted to display something to her Horde
