The Japanese pilots did not fail. These pilots in this video were undeniably heroes, but the Japanese pilots had to do the same thing with no horizontal stabilizers while steering the giant plane through high mountains. Honestly, it's a miracle that they were even able to keep the plane above the air for 30 minutes.

"There's no danger money for crew"? I understand that most struggling experienced aircraft captains will take whatever work they can get, but I think that I'd rather struggle than to fly out of Baghdad Airport during the war than to possibly risk my life during every flight. Yeah, no. Sorry. I love my country, and I understand that somebody has to do it, and alot of people did, but not I. Let me also say that I applied to become a US Marine, but I was turned away as I am a childhood cancer survivor (even though I was 18 years old and in the best shape of my life as I was 5'10" 175 lbs and could bench press 325 lbs, I could dead lift 500 lbs, and I had very little body fat). They turned me down due to my medical history. I aced my ASVAB tests, and I didn't tell the doctors that I was a cancer survivor, but you can't hide anything from the US government. This was before 9/11, but a few days after 9/11 they called me 3-4 times per day, but I was in such shock after watching those towers fall live on TV that I laid on my couch for the next 3-4 days in shock just flipping between news channels. Not to mention that they had rejected me like I wasn't good enough, but now I was...there was something wrong with that that didn't sit well with me. I struggled with that decision for the next couple of weeks, but I couldn't just go there and settle for suddenly being good enough to serve my country due to extreme circumstances. It's a decision that I made that will haunt me for the rest of my life...

No disrespect to the Hudson River crash pilots but I see much more incredible feats accomplished by pilots in these Mayday episodes such as this but they dont get as much recognition as they did..
@MaxLai_0104 Жыл бұрын
The thing is, the Hudson River pilots had literally nowhere to land, and the plane would likely break apart no matter where they tried to land. If you've ever heard of the aftermath, which you're likely to have, you know the plane only suffered minor damage on the bottom of the hull, causing everybody on board to survive.
@吴-s5h Жыл бұрын
@@MaxLai_0104 yes it is indeed a heroic action by the pilots. My point is that there are more difficult senarios a pilot can be put to, such as the one shown in this episode. U think flying a plane with no hydraulics and landing safetly is easier than landing on water..?
@吴-s5h Жыл бұрын
@@MaxLai_0104 the wing tip of this aircraft is almost gone. It takes proper manoveures by the pilots to make sure the wing tip doesnt suffer overstress. Once that tip is gone the plane would most certainly crash.
@MaxLai_0104 Жыл бұрын
@@吴-s5h Saving the lives of all the passengers on board by picking a specific spot where boats nearby could rescue passengers, and flying a plane without engines isn't easy, especially since the river wasn't really empty either. The fact that the pilot in command managed to avoid slamming into a bunch of boats, or hitting a structure such as a bridge is already proof that the pilot was professional. Even though there are much more incredible feats you may have seen, it's rare to suffer no casualties as even turbulence can injure a person.

Sad thing is it probably wont cost that much to add the software as a backup for the hydraulics. Pretty much everything is already there anyway. Maybe they need to add a button on the control panel for it? Or perhaps have the system automatically switch to it when the hydraulics go out or when other situations arise.

I'm curious, is there any possible way to add automatic shut off valves/spare pipes to basically allow for something like this to happen, then bypass valves/pipes open up and you can still control the majority of the aircraft. Maybe/Probably not certain function in certain areas, but ANY control is better than none, when you're several thousand feet in the air.
@PJay-wy5fx Жыл бұрын
Hydraulic systems already have a high redundancy, 3 in this case. All 3 systems being damaged at the same time is a very rare occurrence. Technically, it may be possible to have a higher level of redundancy for any system on board, but this does not happen because it's too expensive. Like the PCA system that is mentioned. It's possible to fit as is shown by the fact that it's fitted on aircraft carrying VIPs, but for general aviation it's rejected for economical reasons.

The Japanese accident was the deadliest because nobody gave a f*ck about survivors and everybody went back home to get a cup of coffie and wait till the morning. By the survivors there was way more people alive. Authorities just let them die to not have to help them in the dark and difficult conditions. Help came many hours after the crash. It was unbelievable and totally unacceptable. But the pilots did not failed. Nobody ever was able to land with this damage on simulator. And i think this is still truth. It was hopeless. These pilots are aces - no doubt about that but their damage was incomparable. They still had their tail and relative limited stability. Japanese did not.
