Check his other three or four channels, especially his vlog channel. He has SO much going on, so it’s more understandable when you see what’s going on daily! Right now is a crazy time and it may continue to be for the next year or two, and as much as we all want him to post more, it isnot easy with everything he has going on from building his huge house to recently one of his dogs getting ill right after they made their second “temporarily permanent” move. But his vlogs are also entertaining and on his parody channel, he recently made a new Britney parody in the last month that is so good!

I hope you can get footage of the carpenter ants expanding their tunnels. I've been wondering how digging through wood looks compared to digging through dirt. Also, I wonder how safe these isopods will be with the carpenter ants. From past videos ants seem pretty good about leaving the springtails alone, but given how we saw one ant attack an isopod here, I worry the ants could take them down by working in groups, attacking the legs.
@AntsCanada
@AntsCanada 2 жыл бұрын
I believe the isopods will be safe. Once the ants get used to their smell and they start smelling like the nest and surroundings, they will leave them alone. I once broke into a carpenter ant nest in a log and saw a tonne of isopods living with them.

Honestly wondered from the start why springtails weren't added. You can grow them in cultures and even buy cultures online. I did this myself when I wanted to make a 10 gallon terrarium. Cheap and easy. The terrarium didn't work out for unrelated reasons, but I kept the cultures going for years thinking I might use them someday. If I hadn't stupidly forgotten about them for too long they would still be alive.

I think ideally for the next woodnest setup is above the drainage rock layer at the bottom of the tower is to put activated horticulture charcoal with springtails who can take care of the mold before it breakout?

There are 2 ways how it can end when you put regular isopods in a formicarium. The first: the ants kill the isopods and thats it. The second: the ispood population will explode until there is no space left for the ants. In your case are the colonies to small - so i guess the second one will happen. 😅

I’m about to go for my first ant colony (Tetramorium immigrans, as they’re small and native to my area)! I’ve checked the website guides and tutorials tens of times over, but I figured it was better to ask anyways: is it recommended to start an isopodium of my own to prevent buildup for their eventual outworld? I’m just worried that the isopods might get into their nesting chambers and eat the brood. I know that springtails and mites will leave them alone, but it’s the bigger guys I’m anxious about

13:00 there's a tiny ant between the acrylic and wood crawling down toward the cavity. It's directly to the left of the vertical crack. Is that a different species?

Yo Ants Canada I have noticed something in the ebony army's ant tower I'm not too sure what it is but it looked like a different ant species When the ebony ant was attacking the coi rolly polli you can see it Right above the chamber on the top left. It was moving slower It did not look like a mite or a springtail either 13:00 is when you can see it. It also didn't look like a rolly polli I would show you guys a photo I croped of it but youtube won't let me show it

13:34, "awww" 🐜🐜. Although I've seen Ant's cleaning and licking on this channel A LOT! lol, I've never seen such a great view of their tongue's while doing so. Due to my feelings of "cuteness overload" upon observation, I just HAD to go back a few times with the Playback speed to set at 0.25, in order to watch this clip of the Carpenter Ant's cleaning and licking the walls of their home with their adorable, wee little tongue's on slow motion.

WOW! I asked about the mold/fungus issue and you replied that you would introduce springtails/isopods to address it. This is soooo beautiful and amazing! You KNEW all along about this important balance that is imperative to the colony's survival....and were prepared for it!! You are amazing sir.......thank you for all that you do! #antloveforever

About your sponsor portion... A friend of mine actually told me about that game, because of how often I talk about (and watch) your videos at work. He knew I was interested, and mentioned it to me a few times. I don't usually go for mobile games, but if you're endorsing it..? I'll definitely be giving it a try anyway.

Instinct probably, some small creatures ants instinctively keep alive and sometimes even setup small farms for. There's one creature ants purposely keep alive and guard because the sap it excretes is a delicacy to them.
