Bryan, thank you for your post. I am Samuel’s aunt. Many for your facts are correct, however the huge air and land search occurred in late May and June, for three or so weeks. Once the backpack was found there were a couple of days of searching, by official. A private party continues to search weekly, with their search dog. The individual that gave Samuel a ride, has spoke with the police, very early in the search. There is no evidence of fowl play, at this time. His backpack contained most all he belongings, except for what he would have taken, on a short day hike. Many commenters ask if the campsite pictured was Samuel’s, no it is not. The cell reception, in Kokee is limited to near the lodge. Our family is beyond grateful to all that have and continue to search, for Samuel. Thank you for spreading the information about Samuel’s disappearance. May God lead those who continue to selflessly search for Samuel, safely to him. May they continue to be safe, while they search. God we thank you! Amen 🙏🏼💛🙏🏼 #BSH #SearcherSearch

Aloha from Kauai! I lived there in one of the remote cabins for almost 20 yrs. Sadly people do go missing there , I used to help/give rides out, quite often when out hiking or 4-wheeling to many of them, some people just got really,, tired on the hike out. Its a very dense,, tropical forest,, & very easy to get lost in. My Dad, who grew up hiking the trails of Kokee (pronounced like saying "okay" with a "K"), was lost almost 4 entire days with his two dogs. Luckily, searchers found him, but they were in bad shape; dehydrated, tired & hungry. My Dad said he wasn't lost, just "forging a new trail."🤔 I was glad to hear that a Hunter found Samuel's backpack, I'm sure that helps to narrow down the search area. I hope with this backpack search area, they will be able to find him soon.🙏 I hope that in the future, that warning notifications are printed in our visitor publications like the airline magazines & on visitor websites, & at trail heads, as the Kokee/Waimea area can look very misleading as far as difficulty of hikes, & the constantly changing weather situations at that elevation. The Alakai swamp is another place people should stick to the trail, as the mud is very deep. Great video!

You are making me excited, I like to get lost and play survivor. (Not too wild) Go early morning hike maybe 2 hours and try finding my way back. But what type of Wild Animals you guys have there besides RUSSIAN BOARS? Snakes? Come to Oahu, you better at minimum carry a sharp object.

I was born and raised on this island and lived on the West side, kekaha right below Kokee .I was an avid Hunter in these mountains when I was younger,(63 now) . Its easy too get lost in the forest up there AND the terrain can be very treacherous ,sheer cliffs that are covered in shrubs,cat claws lantana and all kinds of vines, One wrong move and you'll find yourself falling too your death! A lot of Old time hunter's have past away already WHO really knows these hills who could have been a big help to the search. Condolences too The family.

I love to get lost in the woods. But nowadays you gotta have some sort of weapon. KAUAI I hear has RUSSIAN BOAR. What else can I find there that the State not telling the public? On Oahu, you can find (I heard we too have Russian Boar) Poison Dart Frog, Iguana, Night Anole which State Ag knew about it but didn't warn the public, Boa Constrictors, a Hunter told me they caught an Anaconda (but I doubt it) but you never know. I personally saw a Black Bear and I've heard stories of Hunter's coming across Mountain Lion. Black Widow (used to come in the Grapes at Costco/my friend says you can find them downtown under the wooden picnic tables. I know I left out a bunch more.

What Mr Fernandez said is ALWAYS a relevant factor with missing persons who disappeared in the bush here. I'm from Oahu, the adjacent island and spent a bit of time in the bush and surfing Kauai. To be clear, 'bush' is really really dense jungle. You could be 5 feet from someone passing you on foot and they will absolutely NOT see you. Especially when one is in an area with certain flora present like Hapu fern. More than likely he took a fall, as the terrain is really acute and overhangs can frequently be disguised with overhanging foliage, causing one to step where they think there is solid ground, and succumed to his injuries. Prayers for the family-ohana. Aloha and peace ..

Let the front desk at your hotel know your itinerary, make sure to also inform a manager and have them pass it on to the next shift. Ask for names of the managers so that you're able to text it to family, friends,etc. Leave specific information as to what and when you want them to do something!!! Specify time by adding AM and PM, date, etc. Leave a letter also with the information. Put a letter with your itinerary on the hotel bed also, and tell housekeeping to contact manager and police that since you didn't return to the hotel you're missing!!!!!!!!!!!! Never assume that the people you trust to notify the police, check in with you will do so because they could falsely assume that you're running late, slept in, forgot, etc!!! Thank you for sharing this case! Surely the authorities tried to find more information about his transportation from the airport. Also, did the same Uber drive him from the grocery store to his camp location? I would also be interested to know what items were in the backpack when it was found. If money or items of worth were not in the pack, could it have been disposed of versus Samuel placing the pack?? Also of interest is his camp as seen in the Snapchat post. If he had a camp set wouldn't there have been some evidence found probably in the area near where the pack was found? My concern is that he never made it to any hiking locations. Again thanks for keeping these cases alive with the public!! Stay safe!!!

I just hiked (this month) a few trails in the area his pack was found. It is very easy to fall to your death there. If you step too close to the edge, the ground can give out and it's over. The ground is usually muddy and ready to give out at any moment. This is very sad, but unfortunately he is no longer with us. The bottom of the valleys (where you would fall to) are extremely hard or impossible to hike to and the vegatation is too thick to see someone from a helicopter or drone. My thoughts and prayers to his family! At least he died doing something he loved and in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. 🙏

when traveling to the islands do your research as a tourist. educate yourself on the culture as well, know what areas are safe for tourist to go sight seeing, shopping, and staying. don't follow random people who tell you they can take you anywhere on any of the islands for whatever your looking for. especially if you're going camping/hiking alone. don't let people you meet know you're alone, or your plans. i wouldn't camp at any camp ground/park on any of the islands, especially alone. locals that live at or utilize the parks do not like tourists, you are likely to get beat up and robbed just for being there especially alone. tourists really should only go to tourist areas and most parks, especially ones locals frequent that are away from town are not the ones to go to. i would ask city hall/ community centers or the hotel you're staying at, for travelling safety tips when planning a trip. or get information from tour guides, they will tell you and listen to them. unfortunately a lot of hate and animosity still exists in hawaii towards tourists. you can enjoy hawaii as a tourist but, be a tourist in tourist areas, respect the culture, the people, and especially the aina. sending positve energy and positive thoughts to samuel and his family.

Was his backpack nearby the sea shore, or waterfall (or did it APPEAR one could reach the coastline from there)? Might he have tucked away his pack for safekeeping so he could take some pictures, or so he could just go for a quick dip in the ocean to cool off, and got pulled out by a riptide? Or, More likely (I think), he got lost on the way to the shore, or on his return to the trail (and his backpack). Do we know if any part of the shoreline was searched (even for any footwear)? My theory: He tucked away his stuff to head to the shore, he got lost and so he opted to follow the shoreline in the most logical direction, probably (smartly) hoping to see boats or docks... When the shore was too rugged to keep following, he would have to go inland and I would not be surprised if he is found in a rugged area near the shore, attempting to go around a rocky, dangerous section, and he ended up hurting himself (fall, broken bone) trying to bypass an impassable section of shoreline . I wonder, was the shoreline accessible (or did it appear to be accessible) in the area where he left his pack?

Just an idea for you: Idk if you have accts on social media, but its a great way to raise awareness for these cases, as well as directing people to your channel. Personally I think tiktok would be best, but I may be wrong. The shorter the video, the better, for social media. Most viewers lose interest after 30 seconds unless there's some really intriguing info to capture their attention. I'd recommend making 1 minute (at most) videos about these disappearances highlighting "who, what, when, where & why." The why is the mystery, so replace it with an intriguing/mysterious part if possible. Anyway, take from this what you will. Either way I appreciate you for raising awareness for those who can longer speak for theirselves. 🙏

On a recent visit to Kauai a number of missing person flyers were noted throughout the island. Curiously each of the missing were young adult white males. This was unsettling to say the least. Is something foul at play?
@veronica16253 жыл бұрын
I think it’s that these young men believe they are outdoorsy enough. Mainland is way different than Kaua’i. The locals know this and take precautions, unlike tourists.

How sad for the family. Hopefully one day he will be found.

Is that photo of a camp site Samuel's camp. As I see TWO bicycles in the picture. If not...than I would fear foul play as the last thing we know for sure was he was hiring a driver.

He fell into a collapsed lava tube (sinkhole). He’s definitely dead. It’s volcanic and that jungle is thick, seen it happen off-trail in Costa Rica.

A grocery store 20 miles from an airport - really ?????
@aksez2u3 жыл бұрын
I was going to say maybe he wanted to get his groceries closer to where he was going to start his hike, but then I checked the map and it's only 10 miles from the main Kauai airport to the southern tip of the island. Appears to be some miscommunication here.

Why people dont leave a trail behind? Even if its breaking low branches or shrubbery, putting sticks, rocks, etc.
@tonis81313 жыл бұрын
It's been some time, but I've done wilderness hiking/camping on Kauai. At 8:44 .. is that the camping ground he took pictures of on his phone? Which campground is it, exactly, and on a map? Could someone share that info? But ,, it sounds like he wouldn't have gone far in terms of the more treacherous cliff areas. Drowning is possible too. They have some intense currents that swimmers can underestimate.

What kind of gear did he bring with him? Or was that little pack the only bag he brought?
@tonis81313 жыл бұрын
Also, did they find this day pack at the same camping site he took photos of? And .. were all his personal effects in the pack? Wallet, phone, credit cards, cash? Any cash left in a wallet? Was anything missing from his things? For example, was a bathing suit and towel in there? What kind of preparation did he do for this trip? Any specific travel books he was using? Did he talk to anyone before he left about his trip and where he was hoping to go? Where was his tent, if he was camping? Did he have a heavier duty backpack that he brought along?

Hiking alone is dangerous. Hiking alone without knowing Kauai is stupid. Stop putting on others lives at risk for your thrills

Strange that the driver who dropped him off hasn’t come forward yet. Kauai has many cliffs and deep crevasses, if he was wandering around at night he could have fallen
