It happens in every sport. This system prioritizes consistency and wins, some people are better at one then the other. Harvick and his team were not good enough in the round of 8, so they got eliminated. It happens in every sport and no one complains about it as much as NASCAR fans. Yall need to get over yourself and figure out whether you even want to watch. Examples would be how every NBA game matters, and if you have one bad game, your hopes are over. Simple solution: ditch the "win-and-you're-in" format during the playoff rounds. What eliminated Harvick wasn't a string of bad result, because they weren't that bad. What eliminated him was a driver below the cutoff line winning ONE race and instantly becoming untouchable for him and drivers who have been consistent all year. What good are playoff points then? Removing this feature still leaves playoff drivers with an opportunity for clawing their way back by getting consistent wins and high finishes during the playoffs, but not by getting a single well timed win.

Listen, I’m a Harvick fan, so what I may say might be biased, but I’ve seen it in the comment section so I’ll type it. For one, I like the playoff system, but it needs tweaks. There should be more playoff points provided per win. A driver shouldn’t be able to win 2 stages off of pit strategy and get 3 less playoff points then the winner. And the Championship should be a set of 3, with a build up on points towards the end so it’s not top finisher, and the worst of the 4 all season can get a 10th place but be the Champion. But ultimately, I like the 3 race knock out system, it’s exciting, and all though we lost, Martinsville was exciting. Now let’s talk Denny Hamlin. He doesn’t deserve to be in the final 4 of Harvick isnt. He has been atrocious in the playoffs, and let’s not forget didn’t even finish top 10 at Martinsville. Plus NASCAR has saves him twice. We can all remember Talledega, where he clearly violated the yellow line rule. A rule that NASCAR has used to take wins away from drivers before. But they didn’t take one from Denny, although he clearly violated it. That 5 points saved him. And let’s talk about the 100% rule. A rule that they enforced just last year on the charter teams. (Watch Eric Estepp’s video for more clarification on tbat, I’m not to sure the calling), but also used it in 2013 to take MTJ out of the playoffs, although I will say that was more extreme. But in 2013, they added a 13th guy to the playoffs, but couldn’t add Harvick to a championship 5? Don’t know if I would like that I’m just saying what NASCAR could have done to enforce this rule. But they also fined MWR, and I don’t see a fine for Gibbs. It was clear over the radio “don’t pass him Jones”, and then we saw Jones check up. And although Harvick should have won Kansas, it’s not as bad as the others, because I will admit Logano raced that well, in order to keep Kevin behind him. At this point I’m fed up with NASCAR. There shouldn’t be anymore penalties based off the reaction they expect from the fans. If you are going to write a rule in the rule book, write it well and enforce it equally among all drivers. It’s sad at this point. Reply and let me know what you think to this 🤷🏻♂️
@asareirene4 жыл бұрын
I fully agree. About the 100% rule thing, I think it's about drivers having to race to the full ability of the car or as hard as they can to achieve the best possible finish for themselves and by Jones refusing to pass Hamlin despite having the better car, he violated that rule. The message was as clear as day. The excuse nascar gave was that it was not a team order or something? Comedy central

You know as a few days have passed, I'm way less upset about Harvick missing the final 4. First off, this season was great. 2018 was definitely a better season. 1 less win, more top 5's, more top 10's, almost the same average finish, more laps led, and almost double the amount of stage wins. Harvick also didn't win the championship that year either. The 4 team was also just not good later on in the playoffs. In those last two races, Texas and Martinsville, the 4 team did not score a single stage point. I get he would've won it in a season long format, but that's not we run. Everyone runs the same playoff format, so it's not like everyone had some advantage over him. He had a huge points cushion heading into the round and choked it away. And in any of the other chase/playoff formats, Harvick is almost midpack based on performance in the playoffs. I believe Chase Elliott is the champion in all but the 2014 format. Champions preform most when it matters, and the 4 team didn't. I don't wanna hear anything about how this isn't stick and ball sports, and how we race everyone every week. In the end, champions rise to the occasion, and Harvick did not run well enough. And it's not like the 14 seed beat Harvick, which in other sports is celebrated. The drivers that made it were like 2-5. They all definitely deserved to be there. I love Harvick, and I'd love to see him win another, but they just flat out choked this year.

I think Harvick goal at this point is either tying or passing dale earnhardt sr on the all time wins list. I still think Gordon's 2014 was worse or just as bad as Harvick. Yes Harvick won a lot of races, but he won a lot of races he got lucky to win. Meanwhile, Gordon had California, the Glenn, Loudon (first race), Texas Fall Race, Martinsville and Miami all get stolen from him due to untimely cautions, wrecks, mechanical issues or points situations. I still look at Gordon's Round of 8 series: Martinsville - fastest all day. Makes rare speeding penalty. Finishes 2nd catching the 88. Texas - Dominates the day. Leading easily after a restart with 10 to go. Regains big lead with less than 3 to go. Brad wrecks him. Phoenix - Dominant car for the exception of Harvick. Finishes 2nd. Miami - leading with 10 to go. Pits because Hendrick said he wasn't in the championship hunt so they gambled. I'm still a bitter 24 fan. lol.

For that matter, what happens if NASCAR doesn't have a previously obscure provision that allows pit crews to negate over the wall penalties by tapping their feet against the wall to get a "reset"? Recovering from fourth (and then ninth after a bad pit stop a few laps later) is vastly different than recovering from a tail end penalty, even for as dominant as Chase Elliott became as day went into night.

The domination of certain drivers in 2020 was due to having no qualification. If you were in the top 12 in points, you were guaranteed a top 12 starting position. @@hunternixonfishing2500 They were playing by rules that were only used in that season which is my point. When you are guaranteed a good/great starting position every week, then that puts you at a major advantage over everyone else outside the top 12. Harvick wasn't the only one that had that advantage.

@@jek4837 Statistically Harvick was the most dominate driver of the Gen 6 era also several times I watched him in 2020 start mid pack or back of the pack like Michigan 2 and Dover 2 and both times he drove to the front and still got to the lead without the aid of a caution. He was just on it in 2020
I feel like given Harvick’s past history at the fall Texas race and how he was preforming early on at Texas, if he hadn’t of hit the wall it probably would’ve been his ticket to Phoenix this year

Yeah that was the beginning of the end. I kind of feel like they wanted him to lose sometimes. Texas is a track he is good at and he somehow messes it up because they couldn't see rain🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

I much as I hated Harvick winning, he deserves a shot at the championship more than anyone else

To be fair if Goodyear could make a tire for Indy Harvick doesn’t win that race Hamlin had 1 sec lead and pulling away before the tire blew so Harvick had more points in the playoffs then he should of
