I am using the 529 underneath my PedalTrain Nano acoustic pedalboard (Baggs DI with 9 volt mod, TC Electronic Polytune, TC Ditto X2, TC HoF 2). Works flawlessly and is dead quiet.

i have a question! what if i want to turn off the pedals/the power supply? how do i do that? do i need to keep the pedals running all time on even i dont intend to play until the batery goes down? thanks!

Looks cool. I got a device from Ionic Audio (in Malaysia) that is smaller and cost about 30 bucks that does the same thing (although you need a daisy chain to power multiple pedals. Works perfectly.

+Rob C Music Not isolated - that will make many pedals buzz like crazy, because of ground issues.

No problems in my rig, but you're right that it's not isolated. My rig is small and simple, but regularly gigged.

My Power Supply came from China. Looks almost like the Donner. Mine is both Isolated and Regulated.....at least that's what the description said. While each output has it's own Block, each one contains it's own internal Regulator which insures it's receiving BOTH proper Voltage and Current.. (Amperage!!!) Quiet as can be. 7- 9Volt 100ma, 1- 9 Volt 500ma and 1- 12 Volt 100ma then an 18 Volt at 100ma. I run my Freidman BE-OD off of the 18 Volt at 100ma and it's whisper quiet. After watching Pete do a Demo Video of this Pedal, 1st, I took the back off of the Pedal and turned down the Internal Gain Stage Adjustment down to roughly 1/3 of its available Gain. In my experience adjusting the Internal Gain down, you can turn down the EXTERNAL Gain to get an extremely nice Blues / Blues Rock tone.....Hendrix to Joe Bonamassa to as much Gain a person should ever need. The Freidman is an absolute BEAST!!! PLEASE WATCH PETE DEMONSTRATE THIS PEDAL ON HIS CHANNEL HERE!!!! After watching Mr. Thorn demo this pedal, I decided to try one out at a local store. They had one out for Demo purposes hooked up to a little tiny Squire Amp with an 8 inch speaker. I have no idea what type of Power Supply it was hooked up with. It was hidden underneath the display Stand and was VERY NOISEY!!! I hit the switch and my jaw almost hit the floor. I have NEVER run any Overdrive or Distortion Pedals in my rig. I've always been lucky enough to almost get the tones I wanted from my Amps. I've ALWAYS wanted to own a Freidman Amp but will NEVER be able to afford one so I had to give it a good listen!!! I'm currently using a Blackstar Stage 60 212 Combo. Anyway, when I hit the button, this little, Tiny Squire with an 8 inch speaker all of a sudden sounded like I had a wall of Hot Rodded Tube Metal Amps of Choice behind me. I bought one with the hopes of ONLY using this on my CLEAN Channel for when I'm playing "Blues Night." It was overkill and thought I was going to have to take it back until I remembered Mr. Thorn here doing a review of the pedal. That's when I learned of the Internal Gain Control inside of the Pedal. After tweeking for a while, I finally got it dialed in to where I can go on my Clean Channel, from CLEAN to Blues, then on my Overdrive Channels 2 and 3, depending on how I have my Gain on those 2 channels set for the night, I can do BLISTERING SOLOS from both Overdrive Channels using it for a SLIGHT BOOST. As everyone knows, OD's and Distortion Pedals can and will get a good amount of noise with or without a Power Supply and yes, even with a battery. The Freidman can run off of 9, 12 or 18 Volts so before I gave her all the juice she could handle, I did the tweaking the way I remembered Mr. Thorn showing in his video. Plus, on my Power Supply, I love the tiny Blue LED Lights that help me see my board on dark stages...they can be switched off if you don't like them. $40 on Amazon.....all it has is a "5" on top, no name brand. I, IMO, love it and highly recommend it. Like I said, QUIET AS CAN BE!!! I can see myself owning something like this Mission Power Supply for a smaller board......maybe for my Acoustic Night when all I need to run is a Tuner, a touch of Chorus for my 12 String and a touch of Delay for when its time to try to rip a blistering lead on an Acoustic!!! I think this Mission Power Supply is really unique and Smart.....who would've thought of using a Phone Battery to power a Pedalboard. At least, Ive never heard of or seen one before good ol' Pete showed us all today!!! Mission makes GREAT PRODUCTS. I LOVE the Expression Pedal they make for Line 6, currently using one on my Helix HX. Thanks again Pete and sorry for getting off topic singing about the BE-OD!!!!

There's quite a few low cost overseas power supplies that say 'isolated' in the description, but they are really not. The isolation parts are quite expensive, so it's more difficult to get to a really low price point with multiple isolated outputs. I purchased quite a few 'isolated' power supplies we were doing validation on the 529, and many of them were not isolated. In a lot of cases it doesn't matter at all, and common - is fine, but when it does matter, the difference is really obvious. I did a little video on it here for anyone that is interested kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4upnoqZaqiDpJI

great smart device! just a question: how is it performing in terms of noises and buzzes with the usual wah.wah or modulation/delay pedals? all good? i am an old fan of the voodolab power series but...i might be in need of a smaller-smarter solution for my mini pedalboard ;)
@timothyn49296 жыл бұрын
EmisFear.Guitarist I would be wary of this because it will be using a switching supply for the step-up from 5V to 9V DC and that will create noise. The laptop or other usb power source will also be noisy. So unless they have put some crazy filtering in there I am not convinced. (I am an electronic engineer)
@JamesLebihan6 жыл бұрын
Theres a good deal of filtering in there but it's not what I would call crazy. We compared a lot of power supplies and have similar noise floor measurements in the audio spectrum to a high end AC pedal board supply with an internal toroid that we used as the best performing reference.The converters we are using have very good initial specs, and anything that remained was pushed well outside the audio frequency ranges. We are also electrical engineers with over 50 years joint experience at companies such as HP, Intel, Boeing and NASA. We are fairly familiar with this type of thing :-)
@timothyn49296 жыл бұрын
James Lebihan well all I can say is I am impressed that it has no audible artifacts. Pretty good feat of engineering. :)
@EmisFearGuitar6 жыл бұрын
Timothy N yep that was my concern too but as by James’s reply seems they were able to keep the noise at a very competitive level :) (btw nice to meet you, i am (also)an electronic engineer, bc.sc telecom engineering and ms.sc optoelectronics engineering, and i hated/loved my power electronics and digital electronics modules back in the days so...high five to us!)

Awesome it's like the Volto by Pedaltrain but this looks like it's an Isolated power supply USb
@paulshedden14046 жыл бұрын
The key difference is you do not need to chain pedals together with the 529 (but can to increase the number it can power)as it has 5 separate isolated outs..... but MOST important, is that the battery is external. So when it stops recharging, you do not need to throw the 529 away with it... with the Volto the battery is built in (and it is a 9v). You can also cary a spare because these 5v batteries used by the 529 are cheap and readily available.

@timothyn49296 жыл бұрын
JAFO-PTY I wouldn't choose it as your only supply. Usb is a noisy devil.
@lynyrddeville6 жыл бұрын
Remember guys before you get too excited, this does not appear to be isolated so noise could be a big issue
@PeteThorn6 жыл бұрын
+lynyrddeville it is indeed isolated outs. I think I mentioned that in the video?
@JamesLebihan6 жыл бұрын
Yes, all outputs are isolated from each other. The 500mA output is from a completely separate circuit, the 150mA outputs are all isolated from each other via isolation transformers.
@lynyrddeville6 жыл бұрын
Then your product is an absolute stunning value! I stand corrected by the source. Pete, if you are reading this, you can remove my original post, hopefully soon so as not to besmirch the reputation of a company that is no taking shortcuts

+Steve Redenbaugh 5 outlets ALL isolated? 15ma each and 1 500 ma? Powered by USB and with a usb output too? I can’t seem to find the unit you’re talking about online but please show it to me - I really don’t think that’s possible for that price.

No it`s 1 usb unit I use a Daisy chain haven`t had any problem with noise powering 9 pedals with my power bank. depending on what I use it lasts about 3 hours but you can just plug it through a usb charger. Granted I`m not using a bunch of Strymons. I`m not trying to say this is any better than another . Just mentioning what I have been using. It says 2000 ma max but I`m sure that is stretching it a bit. so far No Problems.
@markfuller64646 жыл бұрын
Or you could just buy a std power supply and plug it in the old fashioned way. Plug sockets aren’t that rare. You had me till you said it needed and extra battery.
@PeteThorn6 жыл бұрын
+Mark Fuller But it doesn’t NEED an extra battery- you can still run it the traditional way if you want to! You’ve just got options
@timothyn49296 жыл бұрын
Pete Thorn, I am an electronic engineer and I would be super interested in a noise comparison between this and a standard power supply. As you know from production, everything is made up from a mix of frequencies which get introduced into the final signal. In analogue the power source plays a huge part in the noise since the sound is directly amplified using the power supply. Wall sockets are not too bad because they usually only contain 50Hz which is very easy to filter (they put a high pass in the supply). However a phone charger uses a technology involving modulation of the voltage for stepping down the wall voltage. Doing so creates a lot of noisy frequency peaks which due to regulations are spread throughout the frequency spectrum (usually kHz frequencies). Hence this noise is very difficult to filter out. Stepping the 5V USB from the power lead up to 9V uses another switching/modulation process, so even using a battery to power the brick will produce noise which is difficult to filter. Hence I would be wary of using this for recording without checking the noise out. It is for sure pretty convenient but wouldn't recommend it as the only power supply someone should have. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this. Tim Nankervis
