@@cousinjim1 ahh, too bad! We just came back to Los Angeles from our 1.5 day on the T-Bird. We limited on bluefin, picked up a bunch of dorado as well as rockfish. Making rockfish tacos tonight and will have a little bluefin sashimi. I caught two bluefin - each about 40 lbs - around Cortez bank. We left Tanner because the action had died and there were too many boats.

Glad to start another season Cousin Jim. Just want to add my two cents regarding the hour+ battle, and a lot of what I see these days. "Pit Fishing" = keeping the rod butt under the arm pit. Sometimes this is necessary, e.g. walking down the rail or when the fish goes under the boat. However, to fully load the rod, the butt has to be down low in the crotch area. A fully loaded rod puts maximum pressure on the fish. This requires "Angling" = keeping the rod somewhere between 30 and 60 degrees. I see so few people doing this anymore and no one talks about it. Tight lines, brother!

@brilliantdodo Жыл бұрын
This is 100 percent accurate. Put the butt of the rod on your hip to get leverage and let the rod do the work for you, or leave it under your arm the whole fight and mess up your back and have to pass off the fish to someone else because of poor form tiring the angler out. Plus these guys are jerking the rod around too much and letting the line go slack during the fight. Watch the guy at the end 34:00 go slack and pull the hook??? Oh well it's fishing, nice day, beautiful water and I'm sure the beer is cold

Looks like a lot of fishermen new to tuna. Was this a 1/2 or 3/4 day trip? I've fished that boat a decade ago and I believe it mostly did 1/2 days. If so, it's amazing to see bluefin on a short range trip. Still looked like lots of fun. Nice to see it wasn't shoulder to shoulder.

Im sorry but i just have too say it . Does anyone one that trip know anything about fighting a fish ? Come on really trying to fight tuna like your catching calico bass with the rod under your arm pit ? My god looking at everyone's form is just awful . Put the rod to your waist just about our belt buckle , put a bend in the rod tip at 2 o'clock and pull on that tuna SALLY .
@snaxs2000 Жыл бұрын
Haha yea. Looks like a little lack of skill. I will say though, i fished it like this and its brutal. Light line 20lb test and tiny size 2 hooks. 30 to 40lb fish. Its the only presentation that gets bit sometimes. 30+ minutes fighting and your form starts to fall apart. Fatiuge sets in. Fish is barely hooked with that tiny hook. Too much pressure and hook pulls. Take too long and hook gets pulled. Cant win. I got 2 out of 3 that were hooked. I think what gave me the edge was a softer rod . The rods here may be way too stiff.
@cousinjim1 Жыл бұрын
I fish a softer rod see my gear video both technics work but a bigger bend does apply more pressure
