Mission: Impossible is an American television series that was created and initially produced by Bruce Geller. It chronicles the missions of a team of secret government agents known as the Impossible Missions Force (IMF). In the first season, the team is led by Dan Briggs, played by Steven Hill; Jim Phelps, played by Peter Graves, takes charge for the remaining seasons. A hallmark of the series shows Briggs or Phelps receiving his instructions on a recording that then self-destructs, followed by the theme music composed by Lalo Schifrin.
The series was filmed and financed by Desilu Productions, and aired on the CBS network from September 1966 to March 1973. The series was reprised in 1988 for two seasons on ABC, retaining only Graves in the cast. It also inspired a series of theatrical motion pictures starring Tom Cruise, beginning in 1996.
The series follows the exploits of the Impossible Missions Force (IMF), a small team of secret agents used for covert missions against dictators, evil organizations and (primarily in later episodes) crime lords. On occasion, the IMF also mounts unsanctioned, private missions on behalf of its members.
The identities of the higher echelons of the organization that oversees the IMF are never revealed. Only rare cryptic bits of information are ever provided during the life of the series, such as in the third season mission "Nicole", where the IMF leader states that his instructions come from "Division Seven". In the 1980s revival, it is suggested the IMF is an independent agency of the United States government.

I played the bassoon in Jr High! And was lucky enough to have private lessons from the bassoon player from the Detroit Symphony back in the mid to late 70's. Phillip Austin was an excellent teacher. 👍❤

This video shows, at least for me, the best lineup of actors during the show’s run. Our whole family watched Mission:Impossible when I was growing up. I played trumpet in our high school band, and we were thrilled upon coming to practice and finding the sheet music on our individual stands. We played the heck out of the Mission Impossible theme song! Great memories of those days.

The 1980s sequel and Tom Cruise movies versions are pretty good but this version of the theme will ALWAYS be the best! Just the way Lalo Schifrin killed it is unbeatable with that sixties spy flavor. One of the all time most memorable and greatest theme songs right with Hawaii Five-O, Perry Mason, I Spy and The Rockford Files.

@@dogwalker666 You can still watch the ORIGINAL TV series on Sundays @ 3:00am on OTA channel 5.2 (MeTV) in the Boston area. A few cable companies carry MeTV also, but I just watch with a regular antenna for free. I actually set my alarm clock to wake me @ 2:50am so I'm awake long enough to watch Mission Impossible. Most times I see the entire episode; once in awhile, I doze off, lol!

@@abbyandsadiesmom2040 Well, hey more power to ya but I have tried the Latifahizer and i just had to quit after two episodes because as hard as I tried I couldn't make it through lol. And with the Magnum reboot they should've named it something else because it's not Magnum without Tom Selleck or the other three guys it just doesn't work. But I'm glad to hear that the original Equalizer is on streaming. I wish they'd put Magnum on there too so more new viewers can discover the eighties classic.

he was. Stephen Hill was great in the role but Peter Graves starred in the better episodes by far. The Controllers and The Falcon to name a few. Shows where actors played characters with a certain style. You can't recreate this show ever. The whole thing is nostalgic in every conceivable way

The only show that Lucille Ball didn't understand being head of Desilu. Her second husband Gary Morton told her to sit down and watch it in for the hour. What she didn't realize that later on, Mission Impossible, Star Trek, and The Untouchables would become multi million dollar franchises for Paramount Pictures.

one of the greatest TV shows ever made with that amazing theme by the great Lalo Schifrin. The same man who did the theme to Enter The Dragon. it was never a show that was fast paced. it was methodical and took its time to tell the story. i loved it. the writing was clever. the way they used the sets were clever. The whole thing and one of the only hourlong primetime shows (at the time) to feature a Black man throughout the entire series. Barney was the only member of the team that was in every single episode. Peter Graves didn't come until the second season. The original man was Dan Briggs and then the rest of the seasons was Jim Phelps. Leonard Nimoy would come on by Season 4 as Paris and would star in one of my favorite episodes of the series, The Falcon. They will never make shows like this again. Just look at it. The aesthetic is hard to create considering everything is shot on digital now (unlike the shows that were shot on film)

Mission: Impossible, I Spy, Hogan's Heroes, Julia, The Mod Squad, Mannix and Star Trek were pioneers with putting blacks on screen and giving them fully fleshed out, human and realistic characters. If it weren't for these shows the boom of black television shows that happened in the 70's, 80's, 90's and early 2000's never would've happened!
