I always had a problem with Reacher in the books. It was the same with Cusslers Dirk Pitt. These man mountains are like 6ft 2 and 220 lbs of muscle. No one’s gonna pick a fight with them unless it’s always at least three on one. There’s never any tension in a fight when the MC is so big so the books kinda got boring after a while. I liked the idea of going against form and casting Cruise.

Nah I love that Dirk Pitt isn't supposed to be a baddass, like he works for the National Underwater and Marine Agency, so he constantly gets underestimated, and then the further into the series you get people sort of know who he is and what he's about, cos of the Titanic and stuff, but still think he's just some scientist guy, but really he's somehow like the ultimate fighter, investigator, detective kind of guy. It's great lol

I believe that Lee Child's Reacher is 6'5". I was disappointed with Tom Cruise initially due to the size discrepancy but IMO he did such a convincing job, that I was ok with him. I've read all of the novels and I'm not at all bored. Perhaps it's because the stories are so engaging and Reacher although big is also a very talented fighter in all respects in addition to being extremely intelligent and odd. In spite of the interesting connection between historical "events" and current events, I did get tired of Cussler's novels. The good guys are too perfect with essentially not faults-boring.

Reacher played by TC was because of his acting prowess and personality hence there followed a successful sequel. Since then Reacher movies have lost their interest. Let’s face it there are many, many hulks about but they don’t draw interest like Cruise does in his movies. A star needs personality just like Hanks, Hackman, Eastwood, and Travolta whether they play a villain or not.

Well, I watched the first episode of the TV series where they presumably cast a more appropriately sized actor, but I found him boring. I assume the character isn't boring in the books, so I prefer watching Cruise.
