In a world rife with superhero films that rely heavily on CGI effects for their action sequences, it is a breath of fresh air to have a film where the actor/actresses and film crew are dedicated to filming the action sequences without too much reliance on these digital shortcuts.

@@celphone1cellphone591 CGI is indispensable when it comes to creating surreal or fantasy worlds. I agree. However, when you want to make an action sequence grounded on planet earth look realistic, a mix of practical and CG, with a heavier emphasis on the practical, is the way to go.

Yeah, even the ones with BIG stunts I can barely recall. I did think the best emotionally resonant one was where Philip Seymour Hoffman plays the villain and he kills Kerri Russell within the first 10 minutes. And, within those 10 minutes while chaotic action transpires, the chemistry and energy between her and Tom is so good, it establishes immediately their deeply caring, mentor-mentee relationship. So, her death, set to a countdown, is strikingly tragic, not in the least because what kills her and the ensuing imagery is twisted and bloodlessly violent. I cried. It's a great scene.
@rogerkincaid931

@@MarcosIsABaritone- I actually found the third one of the weakest. Hoffman was a great actor, but he worked on undercooked material - just being heinous and hateable as possible, that his quick and painless demise ended up unsatisfying. While it is true that Ferris's death was unforeseen, the plot was fairly predictable; Julia gets introduced solely to be damsel in distress, two high-ranking IMF officials were also introduced, one an old friend of Ethan's not present in the previous installment, the other is more antagonistic. You can tell who's siding with the villain. And Hunt's newest team members, Zhen and Gormley, barely had lasting chemistry with him. He had more chemistry with Benji, that they promoted him in the fourth movie.

I remember them because the stunts and action scenes are groundbreaking and the best in the industry: Cruise hanging from the ceiling, the one where he climbs the Mia Khalifa, the running, etc🏃‍♂lol.

Will studios take the right notes from what will be yet another box office smash involving Tom Cruise and a well known IP vs what is happening with Dial of Destiny? Oh and Tom has essentially taken notes on Jackie Chan's filmography and put his name/star power behind boosting the same entertainment ethic to tentpole budgets--and I say that as a compliment. Dang it, I wasn't going to drop coinage to go see this given others I have watched and already having Oppenheimer tickets. Now you've got me having to budget in another premier-level screening!

I be honest I kind of prefer the Jackie Chan's films (his classic Hong Kong films are the best) over the Cruises' mission impossible movies. I haven't seen them all but the ones I have felt bland and not memorable. But the man for all his many faults is a great PR man for the franchise and no doubt it will be another smash.

I’m so happy to hear that this is one of the funniest ‘Mission’ movies. My only nitpick with the otherwise stellar ‘Fallout’ was that it was too relentlessly po-faced and grim. Ghost Protocol’s crowd-pleasing mix of full-throttle action with light-hearted character moments was the apex of the series. Thrilled that McQuarrie and Cruise are embracing some heart and humour again.

At this point I have seen the movie twice, which means I either really enjoyed it or need a life. There is a lot of detail and characters in this movie and you get the feeling alliances could shift at any time. This is the big summer live action movie we have been waiting on. Cool bad guy. The female characters are well developed. They are strong tough characters, but willing to accept help from a man when needed. The car chase was a lot of fun. Couple things I didn’t like. First, is the trend to multiply part movies. Secondly, late in the movie there is a scene involving a train window that felt a little cheesy compared to the rest of the movie.

So I saw this downtown on Tuesday, opening day here in Vancouver. What I see again and again and again with these movies is this: Tom Cruise really wants us to believe that he'll never fail to rescue a beautiful woman, he'll always be there to protect her. Well Tom, and this has shades of Tolkien: can you protect her from yourself? Katie Holmes didn't seem to think you were too reliable, she had to take the kid and RUN away from you! And Nicole, what's the story there? She'd rather shack up with a tattooed country yokel than carry on any longer. So while this message, you can trust me, I'm your elite protector, seems to be the raison d'etre of these films, but history and reality and the actual views of real women that have been with him, tell a very different story. Moreover there's a certain deadness, a empty sexlessness in Tom and all his movies, in pretty much everything after Risky Business. He makes such an effort on the cinematic front that there's nothing left over for actual desire, for actual women. It all smells a bit phony to me, and the Mission Impossible franchise is starting to feel like mere propaganda, trying to tell us that Tom is cool, Tom will save you, Tom's all that. Well, if he really was all that, then would he really have to go to such an effort to convince us? Making these rather disposable, harebrained caper movies year after year after freaking year. No one involved in writing the script for this puppy has idea what they're talking about, they clearly couldn't be bothered to do even ten minutes research, a couple of Google searches, into the actual issues surrounding AI. Absolute nonsense, whenever they talk about the Entity. They clearly cribbed notes from The Architect from the second Matrix, and the Rehoboam construct from the third season of Westworld, but they haven't the wit or wisdom to keep up.

I like it, but this movie isn’t as funny and entertaining as Ghost Protocol, not as dramatic as Rogue Nation and Fallout. The first 20 minutes many of the talking scenes can either be shorten or written better. Killing Rebecca Ferguson’s character is a really unfortunate choice imo. She was written as a female Ethan Hunt and his best potential love interest pairing. His ex wife from the last movie even mentioned and accepted her to be his new partner.

Christy does Dutch angles and editing choices used is a homage to the first film, which I liked but you are totally entitled (obviously) to your own opinion

Does this movie have an ending or is it a cliffhanger? 2hr and 43 minutes and it's only half the movie. That's nuts.

Both ...? It sets up the next movie but it's also satisfying on its own.

I haven't seen a Mission Impossible film since 4...... and I didn't think it was good enough to remember. Wacky projector shenanigans, yeah, I guess, it's based on a TV show that barely anyone remembers any more, and like Cruise is... blah, I can't, I'd rather watch a cartoon raccoon make coffee instead, Call me when Barbie is in.

I agree 100%! You could easily confuse which movie is which given how simpler the plots are to each other.

Massive downgrade for me from the last couple entries. Overwrought and clunky. It's been awhile since a character death has made me hate a movie.

This 'movie', if it can even be considered one, is so hollow, lethargic, and mishmashed. Horrible pacing and egregious editing. There's nothing close to cohesion or a theme. More than anything it is the chaotic non plot and incoherent screenwriting that are painfully idiotic. When the movie is not retconning the franchise it's reconning its own narrative! This is convoluted, paradoxically absurd, and consistently inconsistent to the enth degree. If you took a shot every time this movie blunders you'd die of alcohol poisoning. Thats your mission, should you choose to accept it.
