Tim I really think that if you stop looking for lore and series long character development that you'd find in Fast and Furious you'll have a better time with these movies. The stories are mainly just excuses to string together some of the dopest action scenes and stunts in all cinema. If that's not your cup of tea, that's cool. But that's what these movies are and I would recommend you stop hoping for it before going into every movie, because you'll leave each one disappointment. Just go into them expecting awesome action and set pieces and good chemistry between team members. If that's not what you're wanting out of these movies that's perfectly fine, but I can tell you what you've been saying you want you won't be getting.

I just hope Tim comes to realize that the whole "reveal the plan then do it" is a staple in this series. Bc he doesn't enjoy that concept he seems to think that it's purely uncreative or bad action storytelling. I (like many people) love it for the same concept they show the movie in snippets during the theme... it lets you know you're in for a good time and the shock and aww isn't everything to me, but executing an espionage plan is cooler especially when the plot that they now made you assume will happen has changed due to some mishap. It makes you way more anxious to be in on the plan waiting for it to go right or go wrong, and makes the viewer feel like you are taking part in the plan. I get why Tim loves the FF series, but I think puts himself in a bad headspace by thinking about it so often. Don't compare how they go about plans and set pieces bc it's two different styles with two different purposes and Tim being the "master of hype" should objectively like the FF style more. I get having criticisms and that's the point of this series but I'm just afraid that by focusing on these points so much Tim is hampering his experience for the pieces he does love in these movies. I hope that isn't true and dammit i love these series' ( In Review and MI).

Comparing fast and furious to mission impossible is completely 100% insulting to this franchise. How anyone can watch any fast and furious movie and think it comes remotely close to this movie is beyond baffling. I love F&F but let’s be real here. This is a film that, at the time it came out, revolutionized the action genre. But nevermind that, let’s go watch vin grumble his way through another line of dialogue about family and corona. Then watch a cgi fest of cars and more cars slam into each other and race every now and then. And then have a mechanic from LA become a super hero who somehow saves the world for the government. So damn realistic there. That story makes so much more sense than this. Comparing an action/spy movie where a man literally runs down a building 110 stories in the air (In real life, mind you) to F&F is just flat out wrong. They are nothing alike. At all. Quit going into these movies with this crazy notion that they’re alike and you’ll probably have a more realistic opinion. For the love of god. I don’t think I can listen to these anymore. Completely flabbergasted. Never disagreed more. Even after ranking Amazing Spider-Man 2 as high as they did. Wow

I have one trivia correction: the end of the movie at the pier wasn’t filmed in Seattle, it was Granville Island in Vancouver. In my opinion the Mission Impossible franchise blows Fast and Furious out of the water, and it might also be the best franchise KF have done for in review. I care more about the MCU but there are a lot more not fantastic movies compared to MI.
@ki700
@ki700 5 жыл бұрын
Hard to compare this to the MCU, as MI hasn't had as many chances to screw up. I'd argue there's only two objectively bad movies in the MCU, but in my personal opinion there are three. Three out of 21 means that 14% of the MCU is bad, versus one objectively bad MI movie out of the six, making 17% bad movies. It's really about the same. That said, I do think that the MCU is a lot more ambitious. While MI has done some things to really stick it to Marvel, like the continued use of insane practical effects in the MI movies, the MCU really blows MI out of the water in terms of storytelling, character development, and investment. I think that they're both great franchises, and I hope to see both continue for a long time, but I'd not only argue that the MCU and MI are equal in quality, but that the MCU is a better franchise overall.
@hugopinai2005
@hugopinai2005 5 жыл бұрын
ki70000 Yeah I totally agree, that’s why I said it might even be better pound for pound, in the sense that if you compare them in terms of moviemaking MI is probably a little more impressive than the MCU in almost everything except for storytelling and visuals (which isn’t a fair comparison considering marvel can do fantasy and sci-fi), but the MCU makes you care about its characters and story a lot more. So I would say that they are pretty equal at the end of the day

I disagree with your fundamental premise, Tim. It’s better that the team changes up every movie because it provides new creative ground for writers and actors. Is it fully capitalized upon? No. Should it be commended? Yes! The director changes every movie, and the team reflects that. One of the defining features of these movies is that they aren’t very connected, and that’s great. I don’t want everything to be a connected universe and have continuity. Give me a good story with interesting characters. I feel like these movies have that in spades above FF or any other action franchise. I also disagree that these movies are hard to follow. I saw this movie when I was young, and I understood everything just fine. 5-8 are going to feel more connected because of Christopher Mcquarrie, but I think the individuality of 1-4 should be relished.

Why are you comparing this movie (and series) to F&F? F&F is great but way more corny and unbelievable. Dom should have legit died 2-3 times...not a scratch. Ghost Protocol is a great movie but has its faults.

The Mission Impossible movies minus the second one are leagues better than anything fast and furious.

I half agree with Tim's opinion here and half think he's out of his mind lol.

The whole thing with Mission Impossible prior to Rogue Nation was that each film was a unique take on the formula. They deliberately didn't bring characters back and each film had its own style. IMO it goes downhill after this cos Rogue Nation stuck with the Ghost Protocol template so it felt stale, and Fallout went Nolan-esque, it was too joyless for an MI movie.

People saying they are going to stop watching because somebody at the table has a different opinion then you just need to go step out in front of a bus. You seriously can't handle somebody having a different opinion then you. I 100% agree that Tim is crazy in thinking F&F is better than MI. How he can overlook all the stupid dumb shit in F&F and then say this movie is only ok honestly doesn't compute in my head. But why should that stop me from watching them? I don't suddenly hate Tim now because we disagree on movie franchises. Tim thinks guns should be banned, I own 4. That's a way bigger issue that actual means something in the real world but i'm still a best friend (a very inactive one). What I hate more than any of it is this uber PC, safe space, echo chamber bullshit. We can be different, have different opinions, not agree and still be ok.
