MI3 is my personal favorite. The story has the most drama and the personal stakes are the highest. It’s the most “grounded” story wise IMO. Also, Phillip Seymour Hoffman was fantastic as the villain. JJ Abrams directed it too and I think his style fits really well.

@@ggioia86 Get the F out of here, they were all over the world, so you had the scale, they just kept the focus on Ethan, they downshifted on comedy and upshifted on hard hitting ground combat, unlike all the later ones, perfectly polished, sterile fkn bloodless action with cartoon level CGI smearing the stunts you came to see. The fkn bridge extraction? The chopper pursue through wind mills? Jumping off a building? The shootout in the warehouse etc. etc. It was the deepest, most emotional in the series with the best performances both from the villain and Cruise. I think you need to re-watch this shit cause you couldn't be more off the mark.

I think these rankings are roughly spot on. With MI3 however I do think him trying to retrieve Lindsay and seeing the small chip explode her brain was intense and the entire bridge sequence was a memoriable action set piece for sure.

I rewatched the first, fifth and sixth movies yesterday. Found out that I enjoyed Fallout less than Rogue Nation (previously it had been the other way around) and I actually teared up watching the first movie. It is sooooo brilliantly directed with such an amazing soundtrack... the M:I theme kicks in at just the right moments. So, for me now, Ghost Protocol is still my #1, but the original is a close #2.

Here’s my list: 1. Fallout (2018) 2. Ghost Protocol (2011) 3. Dead Reckoning Part One (2023) 4. Rogue Nation (2015) 5. Mission Impossible 3 (2006) 6. Mission Impossible (1996) 7. Mission Impossible 2 (2000) Fallout really is incredible. Cavill is great ally turned villain which makes it effective. It has big stakes along person stakes. It’s a nice balance. Ghost Protocol just created what the franchise would be become it has all memorable action without a memorable plot or villain Part One of Dead Reckoning feels like the thriller that the first film just dialed to eleven. It’s awesome and the newest stunk is just awesome. Rogue Nation doesn’t have a memorable story but like Protocol has AWESOME stunts (hello, Cruise hanging on a plane for real). But I often forget what it’s about quickly. MI 3: the villain stands out the most and it’s the most personal, but it’s not as rewatchable as future outings MI: just an interesting white knuckle espionage thriller that is just so different what the series would become. MI II: John woo slow-mo that doesn’t mesh with the Franchise but it’s still so much fun.

As a point of reference, I watched and took notes on all of these movies over the last two weeks. These are my updated thoughts on all of these films. 7. Mission: Impossible II-While I don’t think that this movie is the gutter trash that some people make it out to be, it’s by a landslide the worst film in this franchise that feels a lot more like a John Woo action movie instead of an espionage, spy film As a point of reference, I would give the rest of these movies a B+ or higher 6. Mission: Impossible-Because of how this franchise has expanded and evolved from this movie, I can’t rank this movie particularly high on this list, but this is still a very good movie that lays the foundation for this franchise quite well 5. Mission: Impossible III-Despite this movie releasing when Cruise had a fall from grace, this is a rock solid entry to the franchise that has exciting setpieces, an interesting journey for Ethan, and a great performance from Philip Seymour Hoffman 4. Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol-When you put it all together, it has all of the very enjoyable team dynamic, over the top action, plot twists, Tom Cruise stunts, and fun gadgets and sequences to make for an awesome addition to this franchise 3. Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1-Yet another awesome addition to this franchise that has a very engaging plot, solid humor, high stakes, and of course, incredibly exciting setpieces that only reinforce the fact that Tom Cruise is the only person in Hollywood who’s 100% committed to doing what no one else will do 2. Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation-After the greatness of Ghost Protocol, it would’ve no easy feat to top that film, but McQuarrie and Cruise were clearly up for the challenge as they delivered a tightly paced, ambitious, and exciting entry that I absolutely love every time I watch it 1. Mission: Impossible - Fallout-It has all of the team dynamic, phonomenal action sequences, and well done espionage that I adore this franchise for, but with an excellent story and ties back to the previous three films, so when you put it all together, it’s the perfect M:I film, and really, one of the greatest action movies ever made

Honestly, Ghost Protocol, Rogue Nation & Dead Reckoning are interchangeable because they all awesome. 01. Fallout (2018) - I don't know if they can ever top this one. I love every action set pieces. Plus, the third act is the best because everyone in the team is involved. 02. Ghost Protocol (2011) - This is Indy The Last Crusade of this franchise. The most fun and rewatchable of the franchise because of the tone and the runtime. Also has the best team dynamic in the franchise 03. Dead Reckoning Part One (2023) - Probably the funniest movie in the franchise especially the car chase sequence. I wish in the third act they're focusing more on the team just like Fallout & Ghost Protocol rather than just Ethan & Grace. 04. Rogue Nation (2015) - Has the best world building and the best relationship of Ethan & Benji. Also just like Fallout, every action set pieces is awesome and memorable 05. Mission: Impossible III (2006) - Has the best villain and the most personal story for Ethan 06. Mission: Impossible (1996) - This is a thrilling movie but the plot is so convoluted. Langley sequence is still the most thrilling in the franchise. 07. Mission: Impossible 2 (2000) - Just boring

Interesting, I just watched Rogue Nation and thought it was funny af. I'm not cought up fully so i can only rank until Rogue Nation. 1. MI 5: Rogue Nation: Lot's of cool plot twists and crazy stunt scenes. Great pacing aswell. 2. MI:3: Loved the personal stakes, great villian, loved the scene of Tom running by the water in Asia. 3. MI:4: Solid entry in the series, great setpieces, pacing was a bit off for me. Got a little bored at some points. 4. MI:1: Cool spy thriller, iconic moments, a tad bit dated and i agree the last act didn't land for me. 5. MI:2: Pure guilty pleasure movie, me and my mate were laughing out loud at some points. As a serious movie, it's the worst. But if you turn your brain of, it's a lot of fun! If i remember, i'll update this list :)

MI: 2 In my opinion, Fallout perfectly captures the ethos of Ethan Hunt primarily how he'll never give up 1 life to save millions. It is hands down one of the best action films of all time not just from an action standpoint but also a narrative standpoint. For me it's a no-brainer that Fallout is the best film in the franchise. I'm so glad Tom Cruise & McQuarie teamed up again after Rogue Nation. McQ bringing back Rebecca Ferguson and Sean Harris as Ilsa Faust and Solomon Lane respectively was amazing!! I understand that fans of this franchise love the comedic elements but I loved that this movie was edgy, ominous and that the stakes were high. Bringing back Michelle Monaghan in the 3rd act was a stroke of genius by McQ just to add more tension. And Lorne Balfe, what an underated composer. That opening theme for Fallout was probably the most ominous and stress inducing main theme I've heard thus far. Boy, I wish I could watch this movie all over again for the 1st time !!! Just wanna touch a little on Dead Reckoning which I've just watched!! The movie is awesome...at least that was the case until something pretty devastating happened which sort of affected my mood throughout the rest of the movie. With that being said, Dead Reckoning is still a better MI movie than the other entries below it. Great stunts, great humour and great new additions to the cast sort of made up that 1 shocking thing in the movie to a degree. I initially thought Dead Reckoning parts 1 & 2 were going to be the send off for Ethan Hunt and essentially the franchise due to strong rumours during production but when I heard that this is probably not the case, it kind of loses that special feeling of making a part 1 & part 2!! Nevertheless, I hope Dead Reckoning part 2 delivers and to those that have watched part 1, if that shocking thing is undone in part 2, I'll be the happiest MI fan on this planet 😂 but I don't think it's likely

I agree with your rankings, Mission 2 being the weakest of the pack. I found that I like Rogue Nation more every time I watch it. That fight scene on the catwalk above the stage of the Vienna opera house was incredible. The motorcycle chase scene although brief was no slouch either. I would put Rogue Nation at number 3. It may eventually overtake Fallout at number 2.

Rogue Nation is definitely my number one. For me, the introduction of Ilsa alone almost makes it worth that top spot. She is absolutely an amazing addition to the team and her performance was incredible. Aside from that, I thought Solomon Lane was an amazing villian(second to Seymour Hoffman), the intro on the plane stunt, the opera, the water set piece, the chase scenes were all done super well. My issue with Ghost protocol was the worst villian ever who somehow outruns and fights toe to toe with Ethan, he is so forgettable and Jeremy Renner constantly making obvious or sarcastic remarks the whole time got super annoying. Other than that, the Burj Kalifa scene is probably the greatest set piece ever and I wish I could have seen that in IMAX. Mostly all of these(with the exception of the second) I could see being anyone's favorite though. Absolutely incredible franchise.

I feel like one of the rare few who actually likes the first movie in the franchise the best. And for the reasons you described. I love the fact that it's the most espionage/spy thriller of the franchise. Don't get me wrong, love all of them, especially some of the later ones! But the first one just gets me every time. Mission Impossible 1 is still the best IMO, it got more style than any of the other sequels. Is it the best action flick? No, but its the most unique of the series (thanks to the Director).

"Water Butthole" top 3 stunts in the franchise for me, now every time I watch I'm only going to see a water Butthole 😂 On a side note, the scene in MI3 when he actually gets the rabbit foot but we don't actually see how he got it is a cool little thing for action movies. He suddenly just jumping out of the building in a panic after getting it, and then we get the chase scene. Always thought that was a cool moment 🎬

My ranking is gonna be a little odd compared to most, but here it is: 1) Mission: Impossible - I saw this one first when I was kid, and I've always liked it. The gritty, spy thriller tone is just really cool to me. 2) Rogue Nation - Great action, and one of the best villains in the series really elevates it for me. 3) Fallout - just an overall awesome action blockbuster. 4) Dead Reckoning Part One - who knew Tom Cruise vs ChatGPT would be so cool? 5) Mission: Impossible III - I still really enjoy this despite how low it is, and Hoffman really brings it up a notch. 6) Ghost Protocol - This one still pretty good, but I feel like it peaks with the Burj Khalifa and never gets close to that again. 7) Mission: Impossible II - Even as a kid I thought this one was stupid. It's the only one in the series I don't like, it's just too overwrought and melodramatic for me.

I love 2, it’s honestly overhated. It has solid action and a solid story. Cheesy and tons is slow motion and doves but whatever!! It made Ethan a true super-spy!

1. Mission Impossible Fallout: Not only the best Mission Impossible movie, it is one of the greatest action movie of all time. And I thought it nailed the balance between seriousness and humour perfectly. And Rebecca Ferguson brings her A game in this one. All the characters do. 2. Rogue Nation: I actually think they do the humour with great subtlety and execution. 3. Dead Reckoning Part 1: This has a chance to grow. I will have to see it couple of times as it is quite dialogue heavy and also could be improved with Part 2. 4. Ghost Protocol: Until the Dubai scenes, it was perfect, but it loses momentum after that 5. Mission Impossible 1: A better story and thriller with old school spy techniques being on the forefront 6. Mission Impossible III: A great personal story with a chilling villain but ambiguity over the Rabbit's Foot is a plot hole 7. Mission Impossible II: Good action but the only "bad" movie from the franchise

1. Fallout - One of the 10 greatest action movies ever made. It doesn’t get much better than this. The HALO jump is still my favorite stunt in the franchise. 2. Dead Reckoning Part One - This one has the most interesting plot in my opinion. Love the A.I. angle it really makes the stakes feel huge. Most Part One movies just feel like an appetizer and thus does feel smaller than Fallout, but just imagine how insane Part Two is gonna be. I can’t wait. Grace is a perfect way to introduce a female character you wanna see take over a franchise. 100% wanna see her continue the franchise when Tom wants to stop. 3. Rogue Nation - The movie that got me on board the franchise. This has the best action sequences outside of Fallout. Hopefully Renner shows up in Dead Reckoning Part Two. 4. Ghost Protocol - The Burj Khalifa stunt is outstanding to watch, but I didn’t see this in theaters. My big IMAX wow moments with this franchise were in Fallout. This movie is really fun to watch and a great spy movie, but compared to the ones above it the action outside of the it’s main set piece isn’t as great. 5. III - Two things make this movie stand out to me. The villain, and the Shanghai Jump stunt that I think is one of the best the series has done. Jumping one building is pretty tame for Ethan now a days but the buildings look so cool and make it a memorable sequence. 6. Original - A good, tense psychological thriller. Langley sequence is great, but I don’t find myself wanting to rewatch this as much as the others. 7. 2 - I don’t think I’ve seen a single ranking that didn’t have this in last place.

I grew up with the original and it left an impact on me that cemented Tom Cruise as one of my favorite actors and action heroes. I love it's style, direction, and the standout action scenes. I think most people would argue between Ghost Protocol and Fallout for being the best in the series. Fallout has better villains and ties up the story of Ethan's wife. Ghost Protocol is just fun.

I like them all, but if a ranking must be done...7 MI2 - plus, it has the beautiful Thandie Newton; minus, self conscious direction. 6 MI3 - plus, scariest villain; minus, stakes too personally linked to Hunt. 5. MI - plus, stylish and a superb main heist sequence; minus, the helicopter in the tunnel is silly. 4 MI5 - plus, introduced Rebecca Fergusson; minus, the best stunt (the aircraft door), was too early. 3. MI6 - plus, non stop action, best photographed stunt ever with the halo jump; minus, other set pieces too staged; 2 MI4 - plus, just about everything, particularly the Burj Khalifa stunt; minus, Luther's absence, CGI sandstorm. 1. MI7 - plus, all the best qualities in the series come together to make something better; minus, nothing I could see on first viewing
