“Mission: Impossible”, the title alone needs no further explanation. The series about a team dedicating their lives for the most exciting secret operations is known by everybody. Looking back through many years and various incarnations of the successful Formula, the original series (premiering in 1966) had some exciting plots, dedicated acting and filmmaking and, of course, music. Through the years many known names of Hollywood composers were featured on the program, such as Gerald Fried, Jerry Fielding, Don Ellis or Richard Hazard. Best known is Lalo Schifrin, who wrote the iconic theme. Due to the sheer amount of the music of the series, here we will focus solely on Schifrin’s work (of the first three seasons). Enjoy!

YES! More Lalo Schifrin please. IMHO, "He's Got to Make It" is the most pure fun of all these great selections.

Love it! Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to appreciate and groove this fine music written for a fun, suspenseful TV show. The tapes will never self-destruct.

Hi Fred, thanks so much for this upload. It's a great introduction to some of the music from the show. And I think this is finally the incentive I need to purchase the series on dvd! 🙂

The box set of the MISSION IMPOSSIBLE television scores is a superb La La Land CD set. The quality of the music, and the other composers assigned to the series, was first rate. Espionage scores from the 60's are all sensational, and as thrilling and fun to listen to as they ever were! I can honestly say that they just don't compose them like they used to!

Hello, Fred! In 1973, when British writer and producer Tony Thomas released his book " Music for the Movies " he called Argentine Lalo Schifrin " the composer of the future ". Besides jazz, Schifrin 's fame came largely from his disconcerting theme for " M:I ". Studied in academies, his main theme is extremely difficult to explain and almost " impossible " to reproduce: 5/4 rhythm ( inspired by Morse Code ), polyphony ( simultaneous high and low melodic lines in incredible leaps ) and the " question and answer " technique: a musical phrase has three descending measures that end with an ascending ones ( question ) and the other phrase is the reverse ( answer ). Regardless of what Schifrin did after in his career, yes, he continues to be " the composer of the future ". Thanks and bye!!

And the man is still alive, like John Williams of the old school. I once videotaped a performance of an original jazz piece we wrote for a special Latino celebration in LA. Why hasn't Tom Cruise tapped him at least once to score one of his films?

Thanks Fred❤👍🏻 Great Lalo Schifrin❤👏🏻 I have never seen the original series, but I have seen some scenes from some episodes of the second series. I have gradually become interested in the film saga with Tom Cruise over the years. Research: In 1990, Konami produced a video game for NES inspired by the second series. After the great success of the first seasons, at the beginning of the 70s the series saw a sharp decline in viewership that scholars attribute to a crisis of values in the American population, mainly due to the issue of the Vietnam War and the Watergate scandal. And after the first seasons spent fighting threats to peace and international democracy, in the last two cycles the team of secret agents focuses on "local" criminals: only American gangsters and no more international conspiracies. The very famous theme music of the opening credits, composed by Lalo Schifrin, is the result of Bruce Geller's suggestions: in fact, the soundtrack initially proposed by Schifrin for the opening credits was not liked by Geller, who asked the composer to work on the theme again, indicating a part of the music composed for the final sequence of the pilot episode. PS: I still have some problems with sciatica and scoliosis, but over the weekend I was able to return to my activities. The theater workshop in the afternoon, then volunteering at the cinema in the evening. November 28th will be my birthday. I take this opportunity to raise awareness and reveal something about myself: I am autistic. I have Asperger's syndrome.♾🌈

Lalo Schiff created some of the finest music, his title song for “Mission Impossible” is one of the greatest..right up there with “Peter Gun” 👏🏽

Honestly, this is probably the only reason why i give a crap at all for the movies.

Sadly, the box set sold out long ago, before I knew it existed...I hate when that happens!

Are you also gonna do the movie series as well? If so can you also do a suite of Alan Silvestri’s rejected score of the first movie?
