This man behaved in an exemplary manner. Inhereting something that could make you broke for life but instead he didn't pussyd out and sold it but made something great out of it. I wish him and his family all the luck in the future! Greetings from Germany

I love this happy ending...It makes me think of a Jane Austen novel. When we were first introduced to him by Ruth, and he was in desperate need of a bride. Sarah is the perfect bride for him, and they are so lovely. What a timeless story, it's like an 18th century romance with a modern day twist. Congratulations to them, and many happy blessings to them.

I'm SO happy for Anselm and for his marriage. I watched another show a while back that showed him in the planning phase, when he first inherited the property and it needed a lot of work. He was a single, party boy at the time. He even considered making it a cooking school. I'm SO happy he went with this party/event venue instead. Beautiful wife, children and beautiful life! Kudos to him!

So glad Anselm went with his instinct and stuck to it! There were so many rude and negative comments about him from the previous show, but the fact that he decided to save his ancestral legacy shows his dedication. He could have easily sold this magnificent country home and never looked back, but he chose to keep it for future generation's which speaks volumes about his character! Congrats and wish them much luck in the future!

+History LVr Have you seen the website? He hasn't saved his ancestral home, he and his wife just gutted it. It is now a generic beige inside, the woodwork painted beige, the furniture mostly gone, empty rooms with beige carpet so that they are good for rental events. About as much character as any other generic wedding venue.
@historylvr80008 жыл бұрын
No I haven't...last I remember he had built a separate building on the property for weddings that he was soundproofing. If he really gutted the home, without preserving it's original features, then that's definitely a shame! I thought his wife was into preservation and appreciated the home's history. I know he was a bit more modern thinking and more progressive, but thought he appreciated what Elmore meant for future generations. I'm really saddened to hear that, such a travesty for an ancestral gem like theirs!
@historylvr80008 жыл бұрын
+yesiownfrodo So I went to the website and did notice some changes to the great room, but have to say it wasn't as horrible as I imagined. Some of the wood detail is still in some of the rooms. The beautiful windows with the colorful crests are still intact. When you mentioned "gutted" I immediately thought walls were torn down and most detailing had been removed. I do agree they probably shouldn't have covered the wonderful wood mantel with paint, but I'm guessing they wanted to brighten it up. After all in order to keep such a grand place they had to draw revenue. I imagine some of the family heirlooms and furnishings/paintings were placed elsewhere or placed in storage. It's definitely not the ideal for preservationists like ourselves, but I think they did what was necessary to keep this magical place alive. The sad part would've been having to sell it or tear it down. So overall it's not such a tragedy, it's just a small price to pay to allow further generations to keep enjoying their ancestral home...
@benchkey8 жыл бұрын
+yesiownfrodo - I've gone to the web site and find the changes quite attractive. Keep in mind that entry room had only a few details, essentially the walls were painted plaster. He removed the paintings, a good move as they would have changed the feeling of the wedding. Keep in mind that yearly property taxes on a great estate caused many of these old piles to be renovated into apartments, or have fallen into ruin. He has done a service to the estate. Our old farm had $38,000 in yearly taxes in 1991. We sold it for a golf course and the great house (19 rooms), which was in excellent condition, was torn down. That's what taxes do to large estates. Better to go with the times than go into insurmountable debt and loose all.

Originally just this one man to have to make ALL the massive decisions, renovate, afford and foresee the future of a huge 700yr old family estate and legacy is A MIND BLOWING RESPONSIBILITY! The whole entire lot could of been lost for good! BRAVO Mr Guise and family. History becomes today and tomorrow becomes the future so on and so forth. Such a place must have the continuation of Moving forwards and keeping history in the present to continue as such for future generations. It is people like Mr Guise and family along with other Heirs and heiresses, owners and trustees of places and buildings of our fabulous English History. I am very proud of having it to learn about.

What a wonderful ending , or rather beginning , to a beautiful ancestral home! Because of Anselm , his children will have a wonderful home to grow up in and some day become the new holder of the legacy to pass to their own children. He's grown so much , into a responsible grownup who not only cares about his family and home , he also showed he cared for those who work for them and the tenants and their neighbors (soundproofing). Bravo.

+Serene Rune It is a disgrace. If you go and look at the website, you can see that they have basically gutted the main house. There is no "ancestral home" now. It's just an empty shell mostly of freshly painted walls (bye lovely wood) and empty rooms ready to hold rental chairs. Bedrooms are now bride's rooms, etc. It's a travesty.
@Serene67038 жыл бұрын
yesiownfrodo I think a lot of the ancestral homes that are still around are expensive when it comes to the upkeep..? Maybe the inside was so far gone that the only way to make it habitable was to gut it rather than go the really huge expense way of finding all the right materials and contractors to bring it back the way it was originally. It seems at least the integrity of the outside of the home and lands were kept original. It is , after all , their home and should be a place that makes them happy and comfortable. They could have just torn the entire building down and started from scratch.

+beckyluvstoscrapnsew What old house? They gutted it. Look at the website. There are a few bedrooms, but the majority of the house has been painted and carpeted a generic, boring beige, just like any other suburban wedding venue.
@smithersrob8 жыл бұрын
painting some walls is not "gutting" in anyone's mind but yours. The photos show many areas with original unaltered wood panelling, other areas have been painted. There is no such thing as a 700 year old unaltered original home, for hundreds of years they have been modified and the interiors adjusted to suit the style of the times, precisely what Anselm has done here. Paint can be applied and paint can be removed. Considering that many such homes have been abandoned because the upkeep is so expensive a few painted wood panels in an otherwise impeccably restored home is a huge blessing.

Back in 1966 my family hosted a class graduation party at our home, which was situated in the centre of our 400+ acre farm. Precisely at 9pm a phone call came in complaining of the noise. Yes we had a 3 piece band, but it wasn't all that loud. If it were my mother would have been the first to complain. Still we respected the neighbour and quit the music. Should have invited the neighbours.... LOL

I glanced at the website www.elmorecourt.com/3d-tour The renovations Anselm did to the house is certainly beautiful & truly worthy for wedding & other venues too. Yes, the some of the centuries old shit load of furniture, paintings and other antiques are gone & no longer collecting dust "just" sitting around in the house, but he's kept many of them among the newer furnishings, and many paintings on the walls as well. I love the neutral colors & the brighter decor colors too. The huge map on the curved wall is a favorite of mine. And having handicap accessible bathrooms - Thank you Anselm. I love the genius way Anselm did to turn a (negative) possible money loser estate into a (positive) money making business estate. Those who gave exaggerated+rude comments do not understand the huge amount of money it takes to maintain an estate. The insurance, utilities, annual repairs, surprising WTF kind of repairs, landscaping, making sure everything is up to code with building inspectors, fire inspections, and paying employees that work on site would be well over 100 thousand per year. God bless Anselm for making his dream a reality! :)

I was very disappointed when looking at the website for Elmore Court to find it is nothing but a generic high class wedding venue now. This video is VERY misleading. The new building is just a reception area. The main house is now ruined. The lovely woodwork has been painted, the character is all lost. It's too bad. I'm sure it makes them a pretty penny, but it is no longer an "ancestral home" it is just another big, generic house party locale. They've gutted it, and it is about as true to the original and classy as the VW van they have in their opening screen shot. I would have rather have seen them sell it to someone who would treat it with *respect* than to keep it in the family and have them tear it apart and make it nothing more than an expensive party palace.
@DukeofHarbord8 жыл бұрын
+yesiownfrodo As an urban planner and antiques dealer, I personally think they have done a extremely good job to the estate. Sure there may be some original features that may appear modernised (actually a standard practice even 100-200 years ago), but I believe they have done if sensitively and retained much of the character of the place. I am sure making the estate economically viable, available for weddings and retaining the estate in the family, is a much better option than having it in ruins, having people out of jobs or have it sold to some million/billionaire own in so they can pretend they come from peerage. Best of luck with the future to the Guise family.
