We all want to do things that will be remembered by our generation and the future generations as well. We want to be remembered as a very important person in the timeline of human history. We all want to do great things and want people to think we're great, but in the end not everything is what it seems... Human's can be very cynical... These dreams we have are inspired solely by our own arrogance. We want people to look at us as someone who is better than them because that's the ultimate goal for a human... We strive to be better, but the inclompete thought is to strive to be better than everyone... This girl has dreams, but to see her talk about being the first person to physically walk mars is something I see as cynical. She puts in hard work to die unforgotten, not to benefit mankind. We do things to be adored and loved by our fellow humans, and this is exactly what she is doing... Be the first person to mars be my guest, but think to yourself if what you truly are doing is just because you want to be remembered, or because humanity's longevity is of your priority.

She seems like an intelligent person, but besides the technical difficulties (her father says that by 2033 they will have 'perfected' the technology to go to Mars, but that is not a certainty) there is also the possibility of a malfunction at any time during the mission. People have romanticised living on Mars. It will be virtually identical to living in a desert on Earth (only far more dangerous) which nobody thinks is fun in the slightest. Nevertheless, good for her for following her dreams and I wish her the best!

Poor analogy there actually. It's more like saying "humanity isn't likely to up-end its wasteful economies, separated by political tensions, in time to keep earth from hitting the proverbial iceberg. This sad in my opinion because she would not be in that position if it wasnt for her dad. Im 15 and have self taught myself the basics of aerospace engineering (particuarly astronautics), orbital mechanics, and interplanetary flight, but have no access to the type of training she has been fortunate enough to go through. I guess the expression "its not what you know but who you know" really applies to our society today.

Definitely my frustration. I learnt to speak 5 languages at 15 years old by myself, I’m very documented about physics and engineering, and I really want to be an astronaut. I can’t pay for the most activities she’s doing (pilot license, scuba license etc..), therefore she has a lot more chances than me to go to space... I still wish her best of luck though, and I’m kinda proud of my generation’s ambitions.

I'm 44 and never had children but if I had a daughter this would be the icing on the cake for me. When I was a little boy I wanted to be an astronaut until my mother called me down to watch the shuttle blast off and it blew apart. I let fear role my life then. This kid isn't and I'm an instant fan of hers. I could see nobody being more better to take the first steps than this little girl. Go get em kid!!

Makka Pakka, and whilst we're on that topic. I remember watching this ted talk in class (I have nothing against Ted and I used to be a part of it) and it was about this kid. 12 or 13 I don't remember and he made about maybe about 3 or 4 apps (not that good, there pretty basic) and people were saying how smart he was and were so amazed. I could have done these things in grade 3, because I remember doing something very similar to what he did but I couldn't keep on going with programming because I wasn't rich

She is outstanding and this is why they chose here. How many children have that potential? for sure not all. It’s not only the desire to do something that matters but also the capabilities that you might have. So to me she is just the example of someone with extremely good genetics that give her a high IQ and other attributes that also was interested enough to apply for the program.

"Why Spend billions to go to mars when we can use it to rebuild the earth?" Edit: dont take that "rebuild" word srly.
@andrewb44705 жыл бұрын
Rebuilding the Earth would take many thousands of billions (trillions) of Dollars. Even if 100 Billion or more was spent on Mars missions to begin populating it, it would be a small fraction of the amount needed to sort out the Earth's troubles. Still, I agree that far more than what is currently spent on space missions should be spent repairing the Earth!
