It must have been a whirlwind experience to receive the news and have to pack up quickly to catch the last flight back to the US before the borders closed. The fact that it was a Church-chartered flight for all the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints missionaries adds an interesting dimension to the story. It's great to hear that you were able to capture some of the moments on video during the flight. The idea of singing to the flight crew as a way to show appreciation for their service is a touching gesture. It must have created a sense of unity and camaraderie among the missionaries on board.

I went to Indonesia to serve my mission. No Missionary Training Center to learn the language. NO Book of Mormon in Indonesian. Just straight to the country. NO Mission President in Indonesia. He lived in Singapore until the last 4 months of my mission when we go a new Mission President who was Dutch-Indonesian, and who spoke simple Indonesian, President Hendrik Gout. I was ALONE going the many hours on the plane, by myself. What language will I speak in this country called Indonesia? I knew nothing about this land, this country. I wish I would have gone with another missionary and I wish I would have returned home with another missionary. I envy these young Elders for the many who go with them to Africa. They are a group. Probably many of them, in this situation they realized they have no priesthood power to do anything, and the President of the church is no Prophet and has no power either. That should’ve been a humbling experience for them to have to leave their missions because of a virus when in the scriptures true servants and messengers of God, move mountains, turn rivers from their course, heal the sick, defy armies, quench the fire and perform great works of God.

Being a missionary is a great responsibility! The missionary must have great energy, fortitude, and courage. Wherever the missionary goes, no matter what part of the world he or she is in, he or she must spread the Word. Locals must understand what the missionary is telling them. The missionary must get the Word right! Therefore, every missionary must know the language of the local people! To everyone who is going on a mission or preparing for one, I would like to recommend a very good workshop by Yury Ivantsiv Polyglot Notes: Practical Tips for Learning Foreign Language. This wonderful book will give you answers how to properly learn a foreign language with a minimum of your time and effort. This book gives answers to many of the questions that everyone faces when learning a language. I wish you good luck in your important work!

Around March 2020, quarnteen began taking effect. Summer in the US, people in the medical field advised us to let them have access before because of mask shortage. End of 2020 (oct-dec), people began making their own outta cloth. They most likely didn't have access to masks like we did 2021, especially from where they were flying from. To be honest, we shouldn't judge our current social standards to those in the past. Times were different, even just a year or two ago. Most people don't remember what was accessible or accomplished from that time.
