it blows my mind that you are able to fly safely in the weather like this from the grass strips, most without even a resemblance of an instrument approach, each with a unique pattern entry, a sort of rudimentary ATC without radar coverage, and unforgiving terrain all around you. absolutely incredible! puts my FAA instrument rating to shame.. 😂

I can appreciate the way you run your checks (takeoff, landing, etc) even if sometimes redundant. You know that we never get lackadaisical or it can kill. Always, calm and collected, no rush even if you only have a small window because get-there-itis has killed many pilots.

Glad you made it Ryan ... Tough choices to be made all along the way. Your quick decision to deviate previous leg surprised me! It was great to find your vlog. It takes me back in time to when my dad flew with MAF in southern Mexico out of the base in Ixtapa, Chiapas in the early and mid 1960s. He was earlier (1956-7) in West NG when the C&MA had their air missions program at Hollandia (now Jayapura). We were in Mexico with the Hatchers and others. Your videos remind me of my experiences as a small child of flying low in mountainous areas but without the amazing instrumentation available today. In fact, my dad survived (barely) a crash over a rugged mountain pass due to loading, wind and aircraft power limitations. Your constant precise calculations and weather accommodations are never a waste of time.

@darkwood777 Yeah Ryan is a brave guy to do what he does, but you must have had to be borderline suicidal in the old days. Get disoriented or make one mistake plotting your course, you'd be straight into the side of a mountain.
